Key answers for your move in Berlin Siemensstadt
Siemensstadt is easy to reach via the U7 with the Rohrdamm and Siemensdamm stations, and via Siemensdamm and Nonnendammallee. Our vehicles plan the approach taking into account the traffic situation along these main roads.
Siemensstadt: works estate, World Heritage and industrial campus
Siemensstadt is one of the most historic neighbourhoods in the Berlin borough of Spandau: in 1897 Siemens & Halske bought a large, barely developed site here, and around the works grew a settlement that was given the name Siemensstadt in 1914. Between the Hohenzollern Canal to the north, the Spree to the south, Charlottenburg-Nord to the east and Haselhorst to the west, there are today works buildings, the listed Großsiedlung Siemensstadt and new projects such as the innovation campus agreed between Siemens and the State of Berlin in 2018. We at Praktik Transport und Umzüge plan for the tight courtyards of the works estates just as we do for the wide roads of Nonnendammallee and Siemensdamm.
Whether you are moving within Siemensstadt, switching from a cooperative flat on Rohrdamm to a new build or relocating your company headquarters – our team plans every move individually. For private households we offer the classic home move with full service, and for companies at the industrial site the company relocation including offices, workshops and storage areas, often with tight time windows outside operating hours.
Siemensstadt is connected by the U7 with the Rohrdamm and Siemensdamm stations; Paulsternstraße station lies on the border with Haselhorst. The Siemensbahn railway has been closed since 1980, and its reopening is planned for autumn 2029. The partly narrow paths of the historic housing estates call for forward-looking planning. Directly adjacent lies the Haselhorst neighbourhood, with which we combine tours when customers move within Spandau. We come from Moabit, only a few kilometres away, and look at every address in Siemensstadt before the move.
Moving in Siemensstadt: process and local particularities
A move in Siemensstadt differs noticeably from a move in densely built-up inner-city districts, but brings its own challenges. The Ringsiedlung Siemensstadt, an ensemble of Berlin Modernism by architects such as Hans Scharoun and Walter Gropius, is a listed monument and part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The buildings, for example on Jungfernheideweg, where part of the estate already belongs to Charlottenburg-Nord, often have narrow stairwells and limited lift capacity, which calls for careful advance planning of the furniture transport.
In addition, the classic works estates along Rohrdamm and the Wernerwerkdamm axis shape the picture, alongside later blocks of flats. For us this means: before every move we check the access options, the condition of the courtyard passages and whether a furniture lift will be needed. Especially in the courtyards of the cooperative buildings, space for removal vehicles is often limited, so we use smaller, manoeuvrable vans to spare residents and green spaces.
In addition to classic flat moves, we also regularly carry out part-load transport in Siemensstadt for smaller quantities, for example when only single pieces of furniture or boxes are to be moved and a whole lorry is not necessary. Anyone who wants to declutter before the move benefits from our professional clearance service, which we carry out on schedule and discreetly – ideal for cellar compartments in the older buildings or tenants moving out of company flats. We also coordinate moves to Hakenfelde on the other side of the Havel; the route leads through Haselhorst and across the Havel. This way we make sure your move in Siemensstadt runs in a structured, safe way and without unnecessary waiting.
Our moving services in the Siemensstadt neighbourhood
As a removal company, we offer a wide range of services in Siemensstadt that goes far beyond transport alone. Many flats in the historic works estates have high-quality fittings and in some cases antique furniture – this calls for a delicate touch. If you own an upright or grand piano that needs to be moved out of a period flat on Rohrdamm or a flat near the Jungfernheide, we take care of this with our piano transport. Our trained carriers work with suitable equipment to negotiate tight bends and narrow stairwells safely.
After the transport, very few customers want to assemble wardrobes or fit lamps themselves. That is why we offer the complete move with furniture assembly: we dismantle your furniture properly, protect delicate surfaces and reassemble everything to fit precisely at the new location – whether in a new-build flat or a classic company flat. Especially in Siemensstadt, where many residential complexes date from the 1930s and have unusual room layouts, this service pays off.
Siemensstadt also has a comparatively high proportion of older, long-standing residents in the works estates. For this group we have developed our senior move: sensitive advice, support in dealing with authorities and a moving pace geared to individual needs rather than rigid schedules. We support you from the first survey to the last box and make sure that the transition to the new flat is as stress-free as possible. Our aim in Siemensstadt is not only to transport furniture but to offer a complete, well-thought-out service tailored to the particular features of this special neighbourhood.
Organising a parking restriction zone and parking in Siemensstadt
A frequently underestimated factor when moving in Siemensstadt is the parking situation. Along busy streets such as Nonnendammallee or near the Rohrdamm and Siemensdamm U-Bahn stations, parking is often scarce during the day, especially because of commuters using the U7. In the courtyards of the listed Ringsiedlung, the access roads are in places so narrow that stopping the removal van spontaneously right outside the front door is hardly possible.
So that our removal vehicles can load and unload unhindered on moving day, we take care of setting up a parking restriction zone directly outside your address in good time. We apply for the order to the road traffic authority in the Spandau Roads and Green Spaces Office, put up the signs on time and document the zone with photos to avoid later discussions with residents or authorities. This is particularly important in streets with a narrow profile, for example on the residential paths of the large estate, where without reserved parking there is hardly enough room for a removal van including its ramp.
For company relocations along the former Siemens industrial site too, where delivery traffic and works car parks take up additional public space, early parking planning is crucial to avoid delays. We recommend contacting us ideally six weeks before the moving date, as Service Berlin states around four weeks processing time for the parking restriction. This way we make sure that on moving day neither you nor our team lose unnecessary time looking for parking, but can concentrate fully on quick, safe transport – a detail that in Siemensstadt often decides between a relaxed and a stressful moving day.
Moving costs in Siemensstadt: transparent fixed prices
The moving costs for a move in Siemensstadt depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, whether there is a lift, the distance to the destination and any additional services required, such as furniture assembly or clearance. A compact two-room flat in one of the works estates can usually be moved more quickly and cheaply than a spacious new build with several rooms and bulky furniture. On our overview page about moving costs in Berlin you will find realistic guide values and sample calculations to give you an initial orientation.
Instead of relying on vague hourly rates, for Siemensstadt we prefer to calculate with a fixed price, which we determine after a free survey on site or by video. This way you know exactly from the start what costs to expect – with no nasty surprises at the end of moving day. In addition to the transport itself, the fixed price takes into account factors such as the accessibility of the property, any parking restriction zones needed and the effort involved for stairwells without lifts, as is common in many older buildings of the Ringsiedlung.
If you also book services such as piano transport, clearance or professional furniture assembly, you receive a combined quote from us, which usually works out cheaper than commissioning several service providers separately. For long-distance moves out of Siemensstadt, for example to Hamburg, Munich or abroad within Europe, we also draw up transparent fixed-price quotes via our page on long-distance moves. Our aim is to give you full cost transparency before the contract is signed, so that you can plan the finances of your move into or out of Siemensstadt clearly.
Older buildings, furniture lift and upper-floor flats in Siemensstadt
A significant part of the housing stock in Siemensstadt dates from the classic modernist period of the late 1920s and early 1930s. The listed Ringsiedlung, with its characteristic flat-roofed buildings and narrow stairwells, was not designed for today's furniture sizes at the time. Many of these buildings have three to five storeys without a lift, which makes carrying wardrobes, sofas or beds through the stairwell a real challenge.
In such cases we use a furniture lift in a targeted way to move bulky items safely up the outside of the building without damaging the listed façades. This not only saves time but also spares the narrow stairwells and tight bends that are typical of many of the estate's older buildings. During the on-site survey we already check whether the courtyard layout, trees or power lines restrict the use of a furniture lift – an aspect that comes up more often in Siemensstadt's green courtyards than in purely inner-city locations.
In the more modern residential complexes too, for example around the planned innovation campus, or for moves to new builds in the south of the borough as far as Gatow, we pay attention to the size of the existing lift car in order to minimise waiting times. If the lift is too small for large pieces of furniture, we plan alternative transport routes via the stairwell with appropriate protective material for walls and banisters. Our aim is to choose the right transport route for the respective building fabric, regardless of whether you are moving out of a listed period flat or a modern new-build flat – quickly, safely and without damage to the historic or new building fabric.
Popular moving routes from Siemensstadt
From Siemensstadt, many moves go within Spandau or to neighbouring Berlin districts. We particularly often handle moves to the neighbourhoods further west, Falkenhagener Feld and Staaken, where many young families and former Siemensstadt residents move into larger flats or terraced houses. The more rural neighbourhood of Kladow on the banks of the Havel is also a popular destination, especially for customers who want to escape the urban surroundings of Siemensstadt and have more greenery in their everyday lives.
Within Berlin, moves towards Charlottenburg, Mitte or the western surrounding municipalities are among the regularly booked routes. Via the U7 from Rohrdamm or Siemensdamm, central districts can be reached in a few minutes, which also means that many commuters from Siemensstadt want to move closer to their workplace, for example to Wilmersdorf or Schöneberg. For these inner-city moves we provide suitable vehicle sizes and plan the route taking roadworks and rush-hour times into account.
Not infrequently, however, our customers leave Berlin altogether, whether for work or for a change of scene in the surrounding area or another major city. For these cases we offer reliable long-distance moves with clearly calculated fixed prices and drivers who cover longer distances safely and punctually. Whether your move covers just a few kilometres within Spandau or goes right across Germany – we take into account both the conditions in Siemensstadt and the requirements of supra-regional transport, and plan every route individually and efficiently.
Booking a move in Siemensstadt: process and outing tips
We deliberately keep booking your move in Siemensstadt straightforward. In the first step you get in touch with us via our website or by phone and briefly describe your moving situation – the size of the flat, the preferred date and any particular features such as a missing lift or a piano to be moved. We then arrange a free survey on site or by video call, during which we assess the access, the condition of the stairwells and the need for additional services such as part-load transport or clearance.
You then receive a transparent fixed-price quote from us that includes all the services discussed. After your confirmation we take care of the necessary formalities ourselves, such as applying for a parking restriction zone, and agree the exact schedule of moving day with you. On moving day itself, our trained teams take care of the complete transport, including dismantling and assembling the furniture on request, so that you can attend to other things.
A tip for everyone moving to Siemensstadt: the Volkspark Jungfernheide, just across the borough boundary in Charlottenburg-Nord, with its extensive green spaces, is ideal for unwinding after moving day. The route of the Siemensbahn is also interesting: closed in 1980, it is set to run again as an S-Bahn line from autumn 2029 according to current plans. If you want to explore the Großsiedlung Siemensstadt, start on Jungfernheideweg – the estate has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage "Berlin Modernism Housing Estates" since 2008 and makes a rewarding first outing in your new neighbourhood.
Parking restriction in Siemensstadt: applying to the Spandau road traffic authority
For a parking restriction on moving day in Siemensstadt, the road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde) in the Roads and Green Spaces Office of the Spandau district office is responsible. According to the district office, it orders temporary no-stopping zones, among other things "for moves, deliveries, etc.". The authority also names a framework order for temporary no-stopping zones for moves and loading activities under a simplified procedure. Whether and how this applies to your address, you can find out from the authority.
The district office does not state lead times or fees on the authority's page. We therefore recommend enquiring as early as possible and only submitting the application once the moving date and vehicle size are fixed. Appointments at the Spandau citizens' offices are made via the ServicePortal Berlin or the 115 hotline; for the road traffic authority, the district office's contact channels apply.
- Street, house number and the desired section of road
- Date, start and expected end of the move
- Size of the removal van and any furniture lift
In Siemensstadt, with its many blocks of flats, it is worth informing the property management and neighbours about the date early. Our guide applying for a parking restriction zone offers detailed instructions; on request, our parking restriction zone service takes care of the organisation.
A practical point: ask the authority whether a new application is needed if the date is postponed, and have your full address to hand. Inform the property management and neighbours early so that the parking space is clear on moving day.
Siemensstadt: Ringsiedlung, UNESCO World Heritage and moving in blocks of flats
According to the Spandau district office, the Siemensstadt neighbourhood came into being when the Siemens works settled on the Nonnenwiesen meadows. According to the district office, the Großsiedlung Siemensstadt, also known as the Ringsiedlung, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2008 as part of the "Berlin Modernism Housing Estates". The district office describes the flats in the neighbourhood as varied and traditional, partly with a small-town atmosphere.
For a move in an estate of this kind, you should clarify early which rules the owners or property managers set for access roads, courtyard areas and moving furniture. In apartment buildings, the stairwells, door widths and floors decide whether a furniture lift makes sense. You will find tips on this in our guide on the furniture lift.
As points of orientation, the district office names the Jungfernheide park, the Sport Centrum Siemensstadt, the Siemens Dynamowerk, the Siemens administration building and the Siemens Technopark. Near the industrial sites, expect delivery traffic on weekdays, so we set the start time and parking space together with you.
For re-registration, the Rathaus Spandau, Wasserstadt and Staaken Center citizens' offices are available; more in our article on re-registering after a move. Neighbouring area in the borough: Haselhorst; also in Spandau, across the Havel: Hakenfelde.
Which specific requirements apply to access and courtyard areas can be found out from your property management or landlord. We adapt the vehicle, team and protective material accordingly. For moving heavy items between floors, furniture transport with aids can also be useful.
