Key answers for your move in Offenbach am Main
In all 21 districts, for example the centre, the Mathildenviertel, Bieber, Bürgel, Kaiserlei, Rumpenheim, Waldheim, Tempelsee and the Rosenhöhe. We clarify access and parking for every address in advance.
Moving in Offenbach am Main: the process on the bend of the Main
A move in Offenbach am Main brings a few typical challenges. The independent city lies on a bend of the Main, borders directly on Frankfurt am Main and was for a long time a centre of the leather goods industry; today, service companies and the Hochschule für Gestaltung (University of Art and Design) shape its character. The A3 runs past in the south and meets the A661 at the Offenbacher Kreuz interchange in the west of the city. From our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit, it is around 548 road kilometres to Offenbach.
The moving process starts with a free survey, by video or by arrangement, and a binding fixed-price quote. Especially in densely built-up areas such as the centre or the Mathildenviertel, access requires precise advance planning, as many streets are narrow and parking space is scarce. We check one-way streets around the Marktplatz and Frankfurter Straße in advance, as well as access to the new residential quarter at the Hafen.
For private customers, we offer the private move with full service, from packing and transport to assembling furniture in the new flat. As Offenbach am Main and Frankfurt am Main border directly on each other, we also handle moves between the two cities; see our page on Frankfurt am Main. We discuss lift sizes in period buildings in the Nordend or narrow village centres in Bürgel and Rumpenheim before the date, so that your move runs smoothly and on schedule.
21 districts: residential areas in Offenbach am Main
Since 2010, Offenbach am Main has been divided into 21 districts, each of which places its own demands on a move. The centre and the Mathildenviertel – the eastern part of the city centre – are characterised by period buildings and limited parking; a parking restriction often makes sense here. Kaiserlei, on the border with Frankfurt am Main, has developed into an important office location with many new office buildings, which makes it particularly relevant for business moves.
Bürgel, Bieber and Rumpenheim used to be independent municipalities and have historic village centres; Rumpenheim Palace stands on the Main in Rumpenheim. At the Hafen, a new urban quarter for living and working has been emerging for several years. There are also districts such as Rosenhöhe, Tempelsee, Waldheim, Lauterborn and the Westend.
| District | Character | Relevance for moving |
|---|---|---|
| Centre / Mathildenviertel | Period buildings, densely built-up | Narrow access, parking restriction often needed |
| Kaiserlei | Office location | Frequent business moves |
| Hafen | New urban quarter | New builds, clarify access in advance |
| Bürgel / Rumpenheim / Bieber | Former municipalities | Village centres, individual planning |
| Rosenhöhe | Residential district | Piano transport if required |
Especially when older residents move out of a house in Bieber or on the Rosenhöhe, we support them with our seniors' move service, which is particularly considerate and structured.
Moving costs in Offenbach am Main
Moving costs in Offenbach am Main depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, the distance between the old and new address and any additional services required. As a rule, the earlier you book, the more predictable and often cheaper the move. We calculate transparently with fixed prices instead of hidden extra charges.
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €349 |
| 2-room flat | from €594 |
| 3-room flat | from €899 |
| Long-distance move | from €4.10/km |
| Parking restriction zone | €30–100/day |
These guide prices apply to standard moves without particular difficulties. Additional services such as a clearance before moving out, for example when clearing an estate in the city centre or in Bürgel, are calculated separately and depend on the amount and condition of the items. A part load can also save costs if only a few pieces of furniture need to be transported, for example for a partial move from Offenbach to Hanau or Darmstadt.
The floor and lift situation also play a role: period buildings without a lift in the Mathildenviertel take more time than new builds with a lift in Tempelsee. The parking situation also affects the price, which is why a parking restriction zone is worthwhile if needed. For an individual, non-binding quote, we recommend a short description of the property including floor, floor area and preferred moving date, so that we can calculate the costs of your move in Offenbach am Main as accurately as possible.
Parking restrictions and parking when moving in Offenbach am Main
Especially in densely populated areas such as the centre, the Mathildenviertel or the Nordend around Frankfurter Straße, parking space in Offenbach am Main is scarce. So that the removal van can stand right outside the front door without long carrying distances, a parking restriction zone makes sense. According to the city, the responsible office is the road traffic authority in the Amt für Mobilität (Mobility Office); the signs are put up by signage companies, and the city provides a list with the documents.
Especially in narrow period streets such as in the Mathildenviertel or in the village centres of Bürgel and Rumpenheim, a parking restriction is often essential to shorten manoeuvring times and avoid damage to parked vehicles. For moves into the new quarter at the Hafen, where construction is still ongoing, early reservation also makes sense.
- Submit the application to the city around 14 days in advance
- According to the city, put up the signs three full days before the start
- Determine the length of the zone during the survey
- Particularly useful in the centre, Kaiserlei and the Mathildenviertel
Our price list usually gives €30 to €100 per day for a parking restriction zone, depending on location and duration. In areas with high parking pressure, for example on the city boundary with Frankfurt or in the Kaiserlei office district, it is worthwhile because it speeds up the entire move and avoids waiting times. Plan the application backwards from moving day, and on the day itself you can concentrate on your new home in Offenbach am Main, without searching for parking or paying fines for wrongly parked vehicles.
From Offenbach to Hanau, Darmstadt – or Berlin
As a moving company from Berlin, we also handle moves from Offenbach am Main to other cities. Via the Offenbacher Kreuz interchange with the A3 and A661, both short routes within Hesse and long distances across Germany can be planned well. It is around 548 road kilometres to our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit, mostly via the A661, A5, A4 and A9.
We also handle moves within Hesse, for example to:
- Frankfurt am Main – the neighbouring city
- Hanau – upstream on the Main to the east
- Darmstadt and Wiesbaden – southern Hesse and the state capital
- Gießen and Marburg – central Hesse
- Fulda and Kassel – eastern and northern Hesse
For regional moves to Hanau, Darmstadt or Wiesbaden, we offer fixed daily rates; for longer distances, our price list starts at €4.10 per kilometre, and the fixed price after the survey is binding. For smaller volumes, a part load is often worthwhile, with your household goods travelling together with other consignments. We plan routes from Offenbach am Main so that waiting times stay short – ideal for anyone moving to another region for work or personal reasons.

We also try to accommodate short-notice requests in Offenbach am Main flexibly, for example an express move within a few days. Our aim is always a smooth process with clear communication, transparent prices and a single contact person for your move.
Office and business moves in Offenbach am Main: Kaiserlei and the Hafen
Not least because of its proximity to Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach am Main has developed into a sought-after location for businesses. The Kaiserlei office district directly on the city boundary, as well as commercial premises along Frankfurter Straße and at the Hafen, are focal points for business moves. Around the Hochschule für Gestaltung there are also many small creative businesses and studios.
A business move differs significantly from a private move: IT infrastructure, server rooms, file archives and sometimes sensitive customer data have to be transported in a structured way with minimal disruption. We plan the process so that business operations are interrupted as little as possible, often with moves at weekends or in the evening.
- Dismantling and assembly of office furniture, shelving systems and reception counters
- Safe transport of IT equipment and server cabinets
- Labelling system for quick set-up at the new location
- Individual scheduling outside core working hours
- Optional clearance of old office space after moving out
As many companies commute between Offenbach am Main and Frankfurt am Main or have branches in both cities, we also handle combined moves between the two locations. You will find more information on moves in the Frankfurt area on our page about Frankfurt am Main. For larger companies with several floors in the Kaiserlei area, we draw up detailed moving plans including floor logistics, lift use and a security concept, so that sensitive documents and valuable equipment remain protected at all times.
Student moves in Offenbach am Main: process and booking
With the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach and the proximity to the universities in Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach is a popular place for students to live. Shared flats are found especially in the Mathildenviertel, the Nordend and around the city centre, often in period flats with narrow stairwells and on a limited budget.
Our student move offer is tailored precisely to this group: compact prices, dates by arrangement and an uncomplicated process, ideal for moving from a hall of residence into your first flat of your own. Especially at the start of the semester, when many people move at the same time, we recommend booking a date early.
The booking process at Praktik Transport und Umzüge is deliberately kept simple:
- Get in touch by phone, e-mail or online form
- Short description of the flat size, floor and destination
- Individual fixed-price quote with no hidden costs
- Confirmation of the date and notes on the parking restriction with the city
- Carrying out the move including loading and unloading
For students taking only a few pieces of furniture, a part load is often worthwhile instead of a whole removal van. On request, we also take care of a small clearance of the old shared-flat rooms. As many students commute between Offenbach am Main and Frankfurt am Main, short distances and flexible time windows are particularly important – we tailor the planning to this. Simply book online or by phone; our team travels from Berlin on the agreed date.
Temporary parking restriction in Offenbach am Main: application, deadline and fees
To park the removal van outside the building in Offenbach, you need a temporary parking restriction. According to the city of Offenbach, the responsible office is the road traffic authority in the Amt für Mobilität (Mobility Office), Stadthaus, Berliner Straße 60, 63065 Offenbach. Cases are divided by the first letter of your surname or company name: A to J 069 80654128, K to P 069 80652647, Q to Z 069 80652294.
You submit the application with the city's „Antragsformular auf Erteilung einer verkehrsrechtlichen Anordnung“ (application form for a traffic order). The city recommends submitting it around 14 days before the start. Approval is usually granted within a few working days. A photo or sketch of the location helps when determining the signage.
According to the city, the signs must be in place three full days before the planned start of validity; the day they are put up does not count. The city does not provide signs, but with the documents you receive a list of signage companies that hire out or put up signs.
On costs, the city states: no fee is charged for periods of up to five days. For longer periods, it is between €10.20 and €767.00, depending on the type and scope of the order. Ask the sign companies directly for their prices.
You can find more about the process on our parking restriction zone page and in the Offenbach guide.
Offenbach districts, registration and bulky waste when moving
According to the city, Offenbach is divided into 21 districts. Bürgel, Bieber and Rumpenheim were once independent villages with historic centres; the city also lists Lauterborn, Mathildenviertel, Nordend, Senefelderquartier, Westend, Kaiserlei and the Hafen, among others. Tell us the district and street when you enquire, and we can plan the approach and the length of the parking restriction.
According to the city of Offenbach, you must register within two weeks of moving in. Registration is free of charge. The responsible office is the Bürgerbüro in the Kaiserpalais, Kaiserstraße 39, 63065 Offenbach (telephone 069 8065-1). You need your identity card or passport and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). Plan the appointment for straight after moving in, because according to the city, late registration can be punished with a fine. If you were previously registered in Germany, you can, according to the city, also register online via wohnsitzanmeldung.de with the online ID function activated.
On decluttering: according to Stadtwerke Offenbach, two bulky waste collections per year are free of charge for every household. You can book online at sperrmuell.stadtwerke-of.de or by phone on 069 840004545. Dates are usually available within 14 days. An express appointment with collection within four days costs €55.00.
If your move takes you to the neighbouring city, you will find information on the page Moving in Frankfurt am Main.
