Answers for your move in Fulda
A move within Fulda starts from €359 for a 1-room flat, from €609 for a 2-room flat and from €909 for a 3-room flat. The exact price depends on floor, distance and the additional services you require.
Moving in Fulda: Baroque city between the Rhön and the Vogelsberg
Fulda lies on the river of the same name between the Rhön in the east and the Vogelsberg in the west. The episcopal city is the regional centre of East Hesse, the county town of the district of Fulda and one of six cities with special status in Hesse. The A7 (Würzburg–Kassel) has junctions such as Fulda-Nord and Fulda-Mitte; at the Fulda motorway triangle the A66 branches off towards Frankfurt am Main. From our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit it is around 459 road kilometres to Fulda, mainly via the A9 and A4, and finally via the A7.
A move in Fulda has its own special features. In the old town and the Baroque quarter around St. Salvator Cathedral and the city palace, today the seat of the city administration, space for removal vans is limited. On Aschenberg, by contrast, residential blocks and high-rises from the 1970s dominate – here the lift and floor matter. Fulda ICE station is an important hub, and traffic around it is correspondingly heavy.
The process with us begins with a free survey, by video or by arrangement, and a fixed-price quote. After that, on request, we take care of packing, transport and assembly in the new flat. Our team travels from Berlin for this; that is why we ask about the parking ban, lift and access in advance – in the city as well as in Petersberg, Künzell or Eichenzell. This way your private move runs according to plan, whether you are moving within the city or from Fulda to another Hessian city such as Gießen or Marburg.
Inner city and 24 districts: residential areas in Fulda
Fulda consists of the inner city with around 43,000 residents and 24 districts that were incorporated in 1972. For a move, the locations differ considerably, so we clarify access, floor and parking space for every address in advance.
- City centre and Baroque quarter: historic buildings around the cathedral, city palace and palace garden, often only easily accessible with a parking restriction zone
- Aschenberg: with around 8,700 residents the largest area of the inner city, characterised by residential blocks and high-rises
- Ziehers-Nord and Ziehers-Süd: two statistical areas of the inner city with around 5,800 residents in total
- Westend with Neuenberg and Münsterfeld, Nordend, Ostend, Südend: inner-city neighbourhoods around the old town
- Fulda-Galerie: a newer area in the west on the site of the former US garrison (Downs Barracks)
- Horas and Frauenberg: areas of the inner city, Frauenberg with the monastery of the same name
- Districts such as Sickels, Kohlhaus, Lehnerz, Edelzell, Niesig, Bernhards or Dietershan: former surrounding municipalities with their own village centres
Narrow streets and heavy traffic are typical in the old town and around the station – a parking restriction zone is often worthwhile here. In the outer districts such as Lehnerz or Kohlhaus there is more often space to park by the house, which makes transport easier. For flats on upper floors on Aschenberg or in Ziehers, we check in advance whether there is a lift or whether a furniture lift will be needed. Because our team travels from Berlin, please give us the exact address when you enquire – then we draw up a moving plan that suits the location.
Moving costs in Fulda: transparent prices with no hidden costs
The costs of a move in Fulda depend on several factors: flat size, floor, distance, access situation and the additional services you require. We calculate a transparent fixed price for every private move in Fulda, so that you know from the outset what to expect.
| Flat size | Approx. moving costs |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €359 |
| 2-room flat | from €609 |
| 3-room flat | from €909 |
| Long-distance move (per kilometre) | from €3.80/km |
The following factors influence the final price of your move in Fulda:
- Floor and whether there is a lift, particularly relevant in the residential blocks on Aschenberg
- Distance between the old and new address, even for moves between districts
- Narrow access roads in the old town, which can make a parking restriction zone necessary
- Additional services such as piano transport or clearance of cellar and attic
- Size of the household and packing material required
On request we survey your flat in Fulda free of charge by video or by arrangement. You then receive a binding quote that covers all services – with no unpleasant surprises on moving day. Special requests such as furniture assembly, interim storage or an additional helper can also be included in the calculation.
Parking restriction zone in Fulda: clarify parking space in good time
Around Buttermarkt, Universitätsplatz and Domplatz as well as in the station quarter, space for removal vehicles is limited. Historic façades, narrow streets and few parking spaces make loading and unloading difficult there. A reserved area outside the front door is therefore often the most important element for a calm moving day; more on this on our parking restriction zone page.
In Fulda, the road traffic authority in the Office for Road Traffic & Parking is responsible for traffic orders. The city does not describe a separate application procedure for parking bans for moves; for roadworks orders it requires at least two weeks' notice. Plan early, therefore, and ask the office about the deadline, form of application and fee. Our price list states €30 to €100 per day for a parking restriction zone, depending on location and duration.
Residential areas such as Horas, Ziehers or Aschenberg can also get tight because of residents' parked cars. During the survey we discuss the specific parking situation with you and whether a parking restriction zone makes sense or a normal parking space is enough. This way you avoid long carrying distances and lost time. Especially with bulky furniture or piano transport, a clear area directly outside the front door is crucial to avoid damage. Talk to us early so that the application and moving date fit together.
From Fulda to other cities – and to Berlin
Fulda lies between the Rhine-Main area, Thuringia and North Hesse. The A7 leads north towards Kassel and south towards Würzburg, the A66 into the Rhine-Main area. It is around 459 road kilometres to our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit. According to our price list, we calculate long-distance moves from €3.80 per kilometre, including transport, loading and unloading; the fixed price after a survey is binding.
We also handle moves within Hesse, for example to:
- Kassel – via the A7 to North Hesse
- Marburg and Gießen – Central Hesse
- Hanau, Frankfurt am Main and Offenbach am Main – via the A66 into the Rhine-Main area
- Darmstadt and Wiesbaden – South Hesse and the state capital
For smaller volumes we offer an affordable part load. Your belongings travel with other transports that are already on the road between East Hesse and Berlin. This saves costs without giving up liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) during transport. Even for moves over several hundred kilometres, for example to Berlin, Hamburg or Munich, we plan the route, breaks and arrival window in advance – with furniture assembly and packing service on request.

Office and company moves in Fulda: plannable and with short downtimes
As an administrative, university and business centre in East Hesse, Fulda is an important location for many medium-sized companies, authorities and service providers. Whether the Fulda-West technology park, Fulda-Galerie or the city centre with its numerous offices, law firms and practices – a business relocation must run smoothly and with as little downtime as possible.
We take care of the entire moving process for companies in Fulda: from dismantling and transporting office furniture and safely relocating IT infrastructure to professional reassembly at the new site. We work closely with you to carry out the move outside core working hours or at the weekend, so that business operations are affected as little as possible.
- Move planning including a labelling system for files and furniture
- Dismantling and assembly of desks, shelving systems and server cabinets
- Safe transport of sensitive documents and technical equipment
- Coordination with landlords and property managers in Fulda
- Organising a parking restriction zone outside office buildings in the city centre
We also plan sensitive moves for practices, law firms and institutions near the hospital and Fulda University of Applied Sciences, where discretion and punctuality are crucial. For supra-regional company moves, for example towards Frankfurt am Main or Kassel, we plan the logistics so that your business is up and running again as quickly as possible. Talk to us early so that together we can draw up a realistic schedule for your company move in Fulda.
Student moves at Fulda University of Applied Sciences and how booking works
More than 8,600 students are enrolled at Fulda University of Applied Sciences; in addition there is the Faculty of Theology. Many move into a shared flat or a room in the inner city at the start of the semester and leave the flat again after graduating. For this group we offer a special student move with fair fixed prices and dates by arrangement, including at weekends.
As students usually live in smaller flats or single rooms, we calculate particularly affordable packages based on the size of the household. On request we also transport individual pieces of furniture as a part load if a complete removal van is not needed.
Booking with Praktik Transport und Umzüge is deliberately kept simple:
- Get in touch by phone, email or online form with initial details on flat size and preferred date
- Free survey by video or by arrangement
- Preparation of a transparent fixed-price quote with no hidden costs
- Confirmation of the date and information on the parking restriction zone with the city
- Our team travels from Berlin and carries out the move on the agreed day, including packing, transport and assembly
Whether you are moving to Fulda as a first-year student, moving within the city or moving on to another city such as Marburg or Gießen after your studies – we accompany you reliably through the whole process and make sure your move in Fulda remains straightforward, plannable and affordable.
Parking bans and residents' parking in Fulda: responsibility and costs
In Fulda, the city's road traffic authority, located in the Office for Road Traffic & Parking (email: [email protected]), is responsible for traffic orders. The city states this on its service page on roadworks orders, where it requires at least two weeks' notice for applications. The city does not describe parking bans for moves separately there. Ask the office directly about the deadline, form of application and fee, and to be on the safe side allow more than two weeks.
Residents' parking is important for newcomers. According to the city of Fulda, residents' parking zones exist where residents have no private parking spaces and parking pressure is high. The requirement for the permit is a registered main residence in the zone. Each resident receives only one permit for one vehicle. According to the city, the annual fee is €120 (tariff zone I), €90 (tariff zone II) or €60 (tariff zone III). Which streets belong to which zone is shown in the city's “Bewohnerparkzonen” (residents' parking zones) overview (as of 06.2025).
The city does not mention any special rules for moves. As the permit is tied to the main residence in the zone, you should check with the office after changing flats whether and how it continues. Contact: [email protected] or +49 661 102 1341. How we secure parking space on moving day is explained on the parking restriction zone page.
Moving to Fulda: registration at the citizens' office and bulky waste
According to the city of Fulda, the new flat must be registered no later than two weeks after actually moving in. The change is free of charge. You need the ID card or passport of everyone moving and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung). The citizens' office (Bürgerbüro) is at Schlossstraße 1 (entrance A); book appointments online or on +49 661 102 1111. For moves within Hesse there is also electronic registration of residence via wohnsitzanmeldung.de, for which you need an ID card with the online function, a BundID account, the AusweisApp and an NFC-enabled smartphone.
The city's waste page helps when clearing the old flat. According to the city, bulky waste is collected twice a year per street or district; the dates are in the waste guide (Abfallfibel) and the waste calendar. Individual bulky items can be handed in at the recycling centre for a fee. Grümel gGmbH collects large electrical appliances free of charge if you register them in advance via the environment hotline (Umwelttelefon). Additional residual waste bags (70 litres) cost €4.00 according to the city and are available at the citizens' office.
The citizens' office is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 6 pm, on Wednesdays from 8 am to 12 noon, on Fridays from 8 am to 3 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 12 noon. Fulda has its own waste calendars for the districts (18 districts as well as Fulda-Galerie and the Fulda-West technology park). Read more about settling in in our guide to living and housing in Fulda and in the Fulda moving guide.
