Moving to Fulda: Costs Process & Districts

From Berlin to East Hesse
Moving to Fulda: baroque city between the Rhön and Vogelsberg
Guide
A move to Fulda takes you to the baroque and episcopal city on the Fulda river, between the Rhön in the east and the Vogelsberg in the west. Around 65,800 people live in the city, which grew up around the monastery founded in 744; the cathedral and city palace shape the city centre. For your private move we clarify the parking restriction zone, access and floor in advance – whether it is an old building in the city centre, a flat in Ziehers or a house in Horas. We come from Berlin and drive around 459 km to Fulda; we also plan the long-distance move back to Berlin.
We plan every move according to your wishes and the local conditions in Fulda. On request, we handle packing, assembly and dismantling of your furniture, as well as storage if your new home is not yet ready to move into. We are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB. The route via the A9, A4 and A7 is described on the page Moving Berlin – Fulda.

What we handle when you move to Fulda
Planning from Berlin, arrival in East Hesse
We have no branch in Hesse; instead we come with our lorry from Berlin-Moabit to Fulda. That is why we clarify your address in advance – from the listed old building in the city centre to the house in Lehnerz or Gläserzell. We plan for narrow staircases and old building fabric. We apply for the parking ban and, where necessary, the exemption permit for the pedestrian zone at the Office for Road Traffic and Parking (Amt für Straßenverkehr und Parken). We quote the fixed price after the survey. Further places can be found under Locations.

We quote the fixed price for your move to Fulda after the survey – with packing, transport, parking ban and reassembly as separate items. We do not give specific rents or property prices; they depend heavily on location and condition.

Save with a part load
For smaller moving volumes or students moving, for example, to Fulda University of Applied Sciences, a part load can be cheaper: you share the transport space with other consignments on the same route and need some flexibility on the delivery date.

Your
move, our craft
When moving to Fulda, many questions arise: which district suits my everyday life, where may the removal van stand and which official steps are due? This guide introduces the districts from the city centre via Ziehers to Horas and Haimbach and explains the parking ban, pedestrian zone and registration at the citizens' office in the city palace. For a move with children or a senior move, we also plan in breaks and reassembly. That way you start in East Hesse well prepared.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Fulda
Fulda's districts at a glance
Fulda is divided into 24 districts and a core city with its own quarters. The city centre around the cathedral and city palace offers baroque buildings and short distances – ideal for anyone who wants to live in an urban setting. The core city also includes Ziehers-Nord and Ziehers-Süd, Aschenberg, Horas, the Westend with Neuenberg, and the Galerie.
Quieter and more characterised by detached houses are districts such as Haimbach, Bernhards, Edelzell, Bronnzell or Maberzell. Petersberg, Künzell and Eichenzell, by contrast, are separate municipalities around Fulda. For the move, the address counts: an old building without a lift in the city centre needs different planning from a house in Haimbach. That is why we clarify access, floor and parking spot for every district in advance during the survey.
Employers, education & quality of life in Fulda
Fulda is the centre of East Hesse and the headquarters of the food retailer tegut. Other employers include Klinikum Fulda (the city hospital), Fulda University of Applied Sciences on the site of a former barracks, and companies from industry and trade. With degree programmes in fields such as social work, nursing and business, the university brings young people to the city.
Fulda is an ICE stop, and Frankfurt am Main is around an hour away by train. By road, the A7 and A66 connect the city. The Rhön with its biosphere reserve is close by, ideal for weekend hikes, as is the Vogelsberg in the west. This mix of jobs, higher education and nature makes Fulda a destination for a long-distance move, which you can plan with us via Long-distance moves.
Moving costs for every household size
Our price scale is simple: 1-room flat from €375, 2-room flat from €599, 3-room flat from €879, 4-room flat from €1,269. For a house or villa we are happy to prepare an individual quote. For a long-distance move we charge from €4.15/km. Take advantage now of a free survey.
Calculating your moving price: these factors count
The price is determined by the volume, the distance (from €4.15/km) and the number of floors. An existing lift reduces the effort, while a parking restriction zone increases it. A part load also affects the final amount.

More routes from Berlin
A move across regions needs planning: route, driving time and access at the destination. We plan long-distance moves from Berlin (Stromstraße 21), within Germany and beyond. Places with their own pages can be found in the locations overview, and details on our page on long-distance moves.
Parking restrictions and access in Fulda: the road traffic and parking office
In Fulda, the Office for Road Traffic and Parking approves parking ban zones for moves. It is also responsible for exemption permits for stopping and parking and for driving in pedestrian zones. This is particularly important in the city centre, where access and the van's parking spot should be clarified before the move.
- Address: Stadtschloss, room B 207, Schlossstraße 1, 36037 Fulda
- Contact: telephone +49 661 102 1341, email [email protected]
- Opening hours: Monday and Wednesday 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, Tuesday and Thursday 8.30 am to 12.30 pm and 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm, Friday 8.30 am to 1.00 pm
We clarify the application deadline and fee for your street directly with the office, so that the details for your address are correct. We submit the application immediately after the date is confirmed. That way the van stands where it is needed on moving day. Note down the street, house number and the parking situation in front of the building in advance; from this we work out the required length of the zone.
During the free survey we also check whether an exemption permit for the pedestrian zone is needed for your address, and discuss floor, lift and carrying routes. Read more about the service under Parking restriction zone. What we offer for moves in Fulda is described on the page Moving company Fulda.
Registration after moving to Fulda: citizens' office and online route
After moving in to Fulda, according to the city you must register your new home no later than two weeks after actually moving in. Registration takes place at the citizens' office (Bürgerbüro) in the city palace, Schlossstraße 1, entrance A, 36037 Fulda, and only by prior appointment. You book appointments online; the telephone citizens' service can be reached on +49 661 102 1111. The city states these opening hours:
- Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8 am to 6 pm
- Wednesday 8 am to 12 noon
- Friday 8 am to 3 pm

You must bring the identity documents of all persons being registered and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). According to the city, changes of residence are free of charge. If you have a vehicle, also bring the registration certificate part 1, the amendment of which costs 10.80 euros per document according to the city. For a move within Hesse, electronic residence registration can be used. For this you need an identity card with online ID function, a BundID account, the AusweisApp and an NFC-enabled smartphone.
It is best to schedule your registration appointment so that it follows directly after moving in. All further information on settling in can be found in the guide Living in Fulda. We coordinate our arrival with your key handover. According to the city, the information desk at the entrance accepts and hands out documents during opening hours even without an appointment.
