Arriving in Frankfurt am Main: Skyline and City Forest
Life in the Main Metropolis
Frankfurt am Main – not to be confused with Frankfurt (Oder) – had exactly 760,656 inhabitants at the end of 2025 and is the largest city in Hesse. As the seat of the European Central Bank, the Bundesbank and the stock exchange, it is a financial centre; even so, more than 40 per cent of the city area consists of parks and protected areas. This guide shows what newcomers take care of in the first weeks.
We have no branch in Hesse; we come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21). It is around 545 km to Frankfurt via the A9, A4 and A5, about eight hours by lorry including breaks. We plan the home removal at a fixed price after a survey. The route is described on the page Moving Berlin – Frankfurt am Main.

A Fixed Price for Your Start in Frankfurt
Surveyed, calculated, agreed
In a city where housing is scarce, every euro counts. For your move to Frankfurt am Main, we look at your household goods, floor and access – on site in Berlin or by video call – and then give you a fixed price based on volume, floor and distance. Parking restriction, assembly and storage are listed as separate items in the quote. Call us on 01625978461.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

What we take care of for your start
Planned from Moabit
We have no location in Frankfurt; we drive in by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we clarify beforehand what matters on arrival day: the narrow stairwell in a Gründerzeit building in the Nordend or Bornheim, lift and loading zone in a new build in the Europaviertel, access and parking in Sachsenhausen. We apply to the city for the parking restriction outside the new address so that the removal van does not have to double-park. For your belongings we accept liability under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of load space; additional insurance is available. We set the delivery day so that you can register within two weeks.

Shared Load to Frankfurt
If you are moving to study at Goethe University or the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and are only bringing a few pieces of furniture, you can save with a shared load: your things travel together with other consignments towards Rhine-Main. For this you need some flexibility on the delivery day.

To-dos
after moving in
After moving into Frankfurt am Main, you register within two weeks – counted from the day you actually move in; the tenancy agreement does not replace the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). After that come nursery or school, the car and your first bulky waste appointment, which you book via FrankfurtPlus. You get around by S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram and bus in the Rhine-Main transport association (RMV); the Deutschland-Ticket is available there as a subscription. What the city, FES and RMV say about this is set out in the sections below.

Questions from Newcomers in Frankfurt am Main
43 Districts from Sachsenhausen to Riedberg
Frankfurt has 43 districts in 16 local boroughs; the districts that were only incorporated in the 1970s form their own local boroughs. The largest district by area and population is Sachsenhausen south of the Main, with the Museumsufer and traditional apple wine taverns. By population, it is followed by the Nordend and Bockenheim, where the geographical centre of the city also lies near the Westbahnhof.
Gründerzeit neighbourhoods characterise the Nordend, Westend and Bornheim. The Europaviertel was built on the former goods station on the edge of Gallus. On the Riedberg in the north there is a Goethe University campus, and in 2009 the first newly founded grammar school since 1914 opened there. In the west, Höchst has its own old town.
Jobs, Universities, Leisure
Frankfurt is home to the European Central Bank, the Bundesbank and the stock exchange, banks such as Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, DZ Bank and KfW, the supervisory authorities BaFin and EIOPA, and the trade fair. The city has the highest density of jobs and the most commuters in Germany – in 2017 more than 360,000 people came in to work every day. Goethe University, founded in 1914, has sites in Bockenheim, the Westend, Riedberg and Niederrad; together with seven other universities, more than 60,000 people study in Frankfurt.
In your free time there is the Museumsufer, the Palmengarten, the zoo, the Alte Oper and the green belt with the city forest, which has belonged to the city since 1372. The Book Fair and Musikmesse attract visitors from all over the world every year. We do not give specific rents without a reliable source; compare offers early.

Why does every move cost a different amount?
Every move is different – the deciding factors are the volume of the household and the distance from €4.20/km. The floor, a missing lift and an arranged parking restriction zone are also reflected in the price. Extra services such as furniture assembly and a shared load round off the offer.

From Berlin to the Main – and Back
We plan moves from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit, to Frankfurt am Main and back. How the roughly 545 km work is described on the page Moving Berlin – Frankfurt am Main.
Registering in Frankfurt am Main: Deadline, Landlord Confirmation and the Online Route
Anyone moving into a flat in Frankfurt am Main must register with the registration authority within two weeks of moving in, under § 17(1) of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz, BMG). The deadline applies to every person who moves into a flat. So count the two weeks from the day you actually move in, not from the date of the tenancy agreement. Please check current appointments and opening hours of the Frankfurt offices directly on the City of Frankfurt's pages.
Nothing works without the landlord confirmation. Under § 19 BMG, it may only be issued by the landlord or a person they have authorised, and within the registration deadline. It contains the landlord's name and address (and, if they are not the owner, the owner's as well), the moving-in date, the address of the flat and the names of the persons required to register. If the landlord refuses the confirmation or you do not receive it in time, you must inform the registration authority without delay. So ask for the document as early as the flat handover.
If you want to save yourself the trip to the office, you can register your residence online in many cases: according to its operator, the service wohnsitzanmeldung.gov.de is free of charge, requires no visit to an authority, provides a digital registration certificate and is available throughout Germany. The operator recommends using it with a smartphone. The service checks against its requirements whether your particular case can be handled online. For moving day itself you can plan a parking restriction zone if needed.
Frankfurt am Main: Bulky Waste, Green Waste and Public Transport After Moving In
After a move there is usually bulky waste. In Frankfurt am Main, according to Frankfurter Entsorgungs- und Service GmbH (FES), bulky waste appointments are booked via the FrankfurtPlus portal at frankfurtplus.de. FES also lists the waste calendar, an A–Z of waste and the mobile hazardous waste collection there. Items can also be dropped off at the recycling centres, one of which is the Wertstoffhof Ost on Weidenbornstraße in Bornheim. Current drop-off points and any closures are listed on the FES website.
For garden waste, according to FES, a free green waste collection after prior booking applies city-wide from 15 October 2026. The rules: a maximum of 3 m³, bundled to a length of up to 1 m, with natural twine instead of wire or in compostable paper sacks. Grass cuttings are excluded, and branches may be no more than 10 cm thick. Put it out by 6 am on collection day, no earlier than 3:30 pm the day before, close to the property and without causing an obstruction.
For public transport, Frankfurt am Main is a partner city of the Rhine-Main transport association (RMV). The RMV offers the Deutschland-Ticket, which according to the RMV is valid nationwide on local transport and is only available as a subscription; it also mentions the Hessenpass mobil as a reduced-price option. VGF operates U-Bahn and tram lines in the city, for example the U4, U5 and U7. More about the city can be found on our page Moving in Frankfurt am Main and in the guide to moving to Frankfurt am Main.
