Frankfurt am Main guide

Moving to Frankfurt am Main: your way to the city on the Main

Tips and deadlines

Unsere Firma handles moves from Berlin to Frankfurt am Main: survey, fixed price, packing and the journey from a single source.

Frankfurt am Main is one of the most important destinations for job-related moves in Germany: the European Central Bank is based here in the Ostend, along with major banks and Messe Frankfurt, plus the airport as one of the largest employers in the region. Anyone moving to Frankfurt faces a tight housing market and very different districts – from period flats in the Nordend to new builds on the Riedberg. Not to be confused with Frankfurt (Oder) on the Polish border. With our private moving service we plan your start on the Main.

We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 545 km via the A9, from the Hermsdorfer Kreuz interchange via the A4 and then via the A5 to Frankfurt am Main; by lorry that takes about eight hours including breaks. We quote the fixed price after the survey, including for a move from Frankfurt back to Berlin. Whether an old building without a lift in Bornheim or a new build on the Riedberg: we clarify access and parking restrictions beforehand. The route in detail: Moving Berlin – Frankfurt am Main.

FROM BERLIN

Your move to Frankfurt am Main: what we do

Planned in Berlin, arriving on the Main

We have no branch in Frankfurt; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and stairwell in advance – whether a narrow one-way street in the Ostend, an old building in the Nordend or a terraced house on the Riedberg. We apply to the city for the parking restriction in front of the new address in good time. We quote the fixed price after the survey; we are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is possible for valuable items. We coordinate the date with the handover of your flat and the start of your job so that you do not pay double rent.

Packing service

We pack crockery, books and electronics for the roughly 545 km via the A9, A4 and A5 and label every box by destination room in Frankfurt am Main – with our packing service.

Office move

Practice, office or law firm: we plan the office move to Frankfurt am Main so that files, IT and furniture arrive within a fixed time window.

Senior moves

For a move for seniors to Frankfurt am Main we pack calmly, take only selected items and set up the bedroom and kitchen first.

Furniture transport

Wardrobe, piano or display cabinet travel padded and strapped, even into a narrow stairwell in Frankfurt am Main – with our furniture transport.
FIXED PRICE AFTER A SURVEY

Our services at a glance

Every move to Frankfurt am Main follows the same principle: a survey, a clear fixed price and one fixed contact person. We pad and secure your household goods as if they were our own.

01

Loading time and arrival planned

Departure in Berlin and arrival in Frankfurt am Main are fixed in writing beforehand, so that the landlord, property management or caretaker is ready with the keys on moving day.
02

Address checked in advance

Whether a flat in Bornheim or a house in Sachsenhausen: we clarify floor, lift and distance to the lorry before the appointment, so that nothing comes as a surprise on moving day.
03

Parking zone in good time

We plan a parking restriction zone in front of the new address in good time, following the City of Frankfurt am Main's requirements, so that the removal van can park close to the building.
04

Schedule from moving in

We count back from your move-in date in Frankfurt am Main: when the boxes arrive, when packing, loading and driving take place – so no step is left open.
05

Storage to bridge a gap

If the new flat in Frankfurt am Main is not yet free on moving day, we store your belongings in Berlin in the meantime and deliver them on the new date.
06

First night sorted

We set up the beds and kitchen first so that your first night in Frankfurt am Main is restful; after that there is time to register at the Bürgeramt (registration office).
A FEW ITEMS

Not much to move? Part load!

Ideal for a few items
For single pieces of furniture, boxes or one room, a part load is often enough: your things share the lorry to Frankfurt am Main with other jobs on the same route. You only pay for your share of the load space and in return allow for a flexible delivery day – ideal if the exact day does not matter.

From
planning to assembly

We take care of every detail

A move to Frankfurt raises questions typical of the city: narrow one-way streets in the Ostend, many moves at the turn of the month and the traffic routing around the city centre. We apply for parking restriction zones, plan a furniture lift for old buildings without a lift and coordinate the process with the property management. We also plan office moves into the banking district with fixed time windows. That way moving day runs smoothly, whichever Frankfurt district you are moving to. Bulky waste that builds up when you move out is collected by the FES by appointment.

Planning safely and calmly

Planning early makes things easier: fix the date, allow for a parking restriction, pack boxes in good time. That way your private move, move for seniors or student move to Frankfurt am Main stays easy to keep track of.

Furniture, boxes, carrying routes

With a packing service, careful furniture transport and an approved parking restriction, furniture reaches your new home in Frankfurt am Main without long carrying distances, even in Bornheim or Sachsenhausen.

Costs, timing and special cases

Whether an office move, a company relocation or just a part load for single items: for Frankfurt am Main, volume, access to the flat and the date are what count – these determine the fixed price after the survey.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about moving to Frankfurt am Main

Costs, route, districts, parking restrictions and registration – answered briefly.
For families, the Riedberg with new builds, schools and plenty of greenery and Bornheim with short distances are particularly worth considering. Niederrad is also regarded as somewhat cheaper with good transport links. For the move, we clarify floor, lift and parking space in advance so that the day stays manageable with children. We set up the children's rooms and kitchen first so that everyday life gets back to normal quickly.

Frankfurt's districts at a glance

Sachsenhausen delights with its apple wine culture, the Museumsufer (museum embankment) and lively nightlife – popular with young professionals and families alike. The Westend scores with Wilhelminian-era villas, proximity to the Goethe University and high residential quality, though at correspondingly upmarket rents. If you like things urban and multicultural, you will find cheaper housing with good links to the city centre in Gallus or Griesheim.

Families appreciate the green Riedberg with modern new builds and good infrastructure, while the Nordend and Bornheim, with their period architecture and bustling cafés, attract creative minds above all. The Höchst district impresses with historic charm and much more moderate rents than the city centre. Whichever district suits you – our team supports your move throughout Frankfurt.

Housing market, employers and quality of life

Frankfurt am Main is one of the most expensive housing markets in Germany; prime locations such as the Westend or Sachsenhausen-Süd are particularly high. If you are moving for work, you will find employers such as the European Central Bank, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank or Messe Frankfurt. The Goethe University and the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management also attract thousands of students to the city every year.

Quality of life in Frankfurt is convincing thanks to short distances: an international airport, an ICE rail hub and a dense public transport network make the city ideal for commuters and international travellers. Then there are green spaces such as the Grüneburgpark, the Museumsufer with over 30 museums and a diverse food scene. This mix of economic strength and quality of life is the main reason why so many people take the step of moving to Frankfurt. Cities with their own page are listed in our locations overview.

Prices by flat size

The larger the flat, the greater the effort – and this is reflected in our prices. For a 1-room flat you pay from €354, for 2 rooms from €584. For 3 rooms the price starts at €884, for 4 rooms at €1,289. Larger properties such as houses or villas receive an individual quote. For long-distance moves we charge from €3.95/km. Get advice during a free survey.

These factors set the price

Alongside the volume of your belongings, the distance (from €3.95/km) plays a central role. The floor, a lift and a possible parking restriction zone are also factored into the calculation. Additional services such as furniture assembly and a part load can be booked individually.

Bulky waste and clearance when moving in Frankfurt am Main

When moving out of or into a home in Frankfurt am Main, there is often bulky waste. According to FES Frankfurter Entsorgungs- und Service GmbH, you arrange a collection date by phone on 0800 2008007-10 or online; registration is required for the online booking. The FES disposes of up to 10 m³ of bulky waste free of charge, provided your household is connected to the fee-based waste collection. Larger quantities are only possible for a fee. In certain residential areas, bulky waste is collected on fixed dates every four weeks as part of the estate collection (Siedlungsabfuhr).

  • Putting it out: on collection day by 6.00 am at the latest, at the earliest from 3.30 pm the day before. Putting it out too early is an administrative offence.
  • Location: at ground level on the property, with a carrying distance of no more than 5 metres and a passage width of over 1.5 metres. If that is not possible, the bulky waste goes on the pavement without obstructing traffic.
  • Not included: waste from renovation work such as windows, doors, wall panelling and sanitary fittings. Hazardous substances such as leftover paint go to the hazardous waste collection vehicle (Schadstoffmobil).
  • Drop it off yourself: with the boot service (Kofferraumservice) you can hand in up to 1 m³ of bulky waste at recycling centres.

For cellars, flats or garages, the FES also mentions a chargeable clearance service by FFR. If you do not want to deal with a complete clearance yourself, read more about our house clearance.

Frankfurt am Main: fare zone, city boundary and planning a parking restriction

For journeys around the move, it is worth looking at the fares of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). According to the RMV, fare zone 5000 covers the entire Frankfurt city area, and the airport forms fare zone 5090. For short journeys across the Frankfurt city boundary, price levels 30 and 40 apply. Journeys to the airport are excluded from these reductions.

Important for season tickets: tickets from the surrounding area are not automatically valid throughout the city. According to the RMV, season tickets covering the whole city area are only available at price levels 4 or 5. The RMV describes the Deutschland-Ticket as valid nationwide for local transport; it is only sold as a subscription. Tickets are available in the RMV TicketShop, in the RMVgo app and at ticket machines.

Parking restriction: the federal portal offers the application for a temporary parking restriction zone for moves and for deliveries and collections; which office is responsible and which deadlines and fees apply depends on the region selected. Clarify this for your street in Frankfurt am Main before you fix the moving date. With larger vehicles, it is worth checking access to your address early; more on this on the parking restriction zone page. An overview of our service in the city can be found under Removal company Frankfurt am Main.

Always one step ahead.
