Gründerzeit, Taut rows, new builds: moves in Weißensee

move stress-free

Unsere Firma Moves between Antonplatz, Weißer See and the Jewish Cemetery – planned from Stromstraße in Moabit.
Weißensee has no U-Bahn or S-Bahn station of its own in the centre – it is served by tram, above all the M4 on Berliner Allee (B 2). For the removal van this means tracks on the main axis and loading zones often in the side streets. We plan for both before the date.
In the Komponistenviertel south-east of Berliner Allee there are Gründerzeit blocks of flats; on Buschallee stand Bruno Taut's listed rows of housing. Depending on the building, we combine packing service, furniture lift, small transport and part-load transport for your move.

Typical moving topics in Weißensee
These three topics come up particularly often on moves in Weißensee.

Older buildings without a lift

Many Gründerzeit buildings around Parkstraße and in the Komponistenviertel have no lift – here we use a furniture lift where it makes sense.

Parking on Berliner Allee

Tram tracks and heavy traffic call for a no-parking zone set up early for a smooth process.

Questions about moving in Weißensee

Key answers for your move in Berlin Weißensee

Answers on no-parking zones on Berliner Allee, period buildings without a lift, the Taut blocks and registration in Weißensee – so you know what to do before moving day.

For narrow residential streets in the Komponistenviertel we plan smaller vehicles and short loading routes and, if needed, set up a no-parking zone early so that there is enough space for loading and unloading.

Weißensee: Weißer See, Antonplatz and Berliner Allee

Weißensee is one of the greenest and at the same time liveliest neighbourhoods in the district of Pankow. Around the lake that gives it its name, the Weißer See, and the Park am Weißen See, a neighbourhood has developed that combines Gründerzeit period buildings, post-war housing and modern new-build projects in a small area. As a removal company from Moabit, we plan for the particular features of this neighbourhood in advance – from the Gründerzeit streets of the Komponistenviertel to the long rows of housing on Buschallee.

A move in Weißensee is noticeably different from a move in more densely built-up inner-city areas. The neighbourhood is well connected, but it has no U-Bahn or S-Bahn station of its own right in the centre – it is served mainly by tram lines M4, M13, 12 and 27, which run via Berliner Allee and Antonplatz. For us as a removal company this means that loading zones often have to be approached via side streets, while tram tracks on the main axes have to be taken into account.

We plan every private move in Weißensee individually – from the initial survey and estimating the space required to carrying it out on schedule. In doing so we pay attention to the typical mix of buildings: period flats with high ceilings and narrow stairwells on Gäblerstraße or Parkstraße need different solutions from the easily accessible new builds near Buschallee. The proximity to Prenzlauer Berg also means that many moves take place within the district – an advantage we pass on through short journeys and flexible dates. If you would like to find out about the expected costs in advance, our page moving costs Berlin gives a transparent overview of the price factors.

Moving services in Weißensee: private, business and special transport

Our range of services in Weißensee covers every moving scenario. For families and individuals we offer the classic private move, whether you are moving from a period flat on Pistoriusplatz into one of the new-build flats on Indira-Gandhi-Straße or the other way round. Smaller moves where a whole lorry isn't worthwhile can also be carried out affordably via our part-load transport – ideal for students or flat-share moves in the area around Streustraße.

Businesses along Berliner Allee, in the commercial courtyards on Indira-Gandhi-Straße or in offices near Antonplatz rely on our business move service. We organise the relocation of practices, law firms and offices so that business operations are disrupted as little as possible – often in the evening or at the weekend so as not to disturb customers.

If a change of flat goes hand in hand with clearing out the old household, we take care of the clearance of the cellar, loft or the whole flat – not uncommon in the older buildings around Woelckpromenade with their often crammed cellar compartments. For particularly valuable or bulky items such as grand and upright pianos from the many period flats, we offer professional piano transport with the appropriate equipment.

We don't leave you on your own after transport: our team takes care of furniture assembly and properly reassembles wardrobes, beds and kitchens. Especially for older people who want to move from one of the quieter streets in Weißensee into a step-free flat, we have developed the senior move – sensitive, patient and with particular attention to familiar routines.

No-parking zone in Weißensee: parking and loading safely

Parking space in Weißensee is an issue that affects every move. At first glance the neighbourhood seems less densely built-up than the city centre, but around Antonplatz, along Berliner Allee and in the narrow residential streets of the Komponistenviertel in particular, free parking is in short supply on many days. In addition, the tram lines on Berliner Allee take up their own lanes, so stopping spontaneously with the removal van is often not possible.

So that you don't lose valuable time looking for a parking space on moving day, we apply in good time for a no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) directly outside your old or new address. This is particularly useful on Rennbahnstraße with its larger blocks of flats, where several removal vans may be at work at the same time, but also in quieter side streets such as Gäblerstraße or Parkstraße, where residents' parking further restricts the available space.

The officially set-up zone ensures a free space right outside the front door, considerably shortens the carrying distances and at the same time protects you from fines caused by other people's wrongly parked vehicles. Especially in period buildings without a lift, which are still common in large parts of Weißensee, a short route from the vehicle to the front door makes a noticeable difference to the speed and cost of the move.

We take care of the entire application with the relevant authorities, put up the signs in good time and agree the period with you. This way you can concentrate fully on your new home on moving day, while we ensure that everything runs smoothly with regard to the no-parking zone and traffic safety – a service that has proven itself time and again in practice in Weißensee.

Moving costs in Weißensee: transparent fixed prices instead of nasty surprises

The question of cost comes first in almost every enquiry from Weißensee. As the neighbourhood has a mix of compact period flats, family-friendly new builds and larger terraced houses in the area around the Weißer See, the effort involved in a move varies considerably. On our page moving costs Berlin we explain in detail which factors influence the price – from the floor area and the floor to the distance to your new home.

In Weißensee, the following points play a particular role in pricing:

  • The floor and whether there is a lift, especially relevant in the period buildings around Langhansstraße
  • Access for the removal van, for example in the narrower streets of the Komponistenviertel
  • Extra services required, such as a no-parking zone, clearance or piano transport
  • The distance to the destination, whether within Pankow or as a long-distance move to another city
  • The extent of furniture assembly and any packing material required

After a free survey – on site or by video – we calculate a binding fixed price, so you don't have to worry about hidden extra costs on moving day. This approach has proven itself with customers in Weißensee in particular, as the building fabric and access situation can vary greatly from street to street – a move from a new build on Buschallee simply isn't comparable with a move from a Gründerzeit period building on Gäblerstraße. Our aim is to give you a realistic and fair picture of the price in the quote itself, one that fits your housing situation in Weißensee exactly.

Period-building moves in Weißensee: narrow stairwells and furniture lift

Weißensee is one of the Pankow neighbourhoods with particularly attractive but also demanding period housing. Around Gäblerstraße, Parkstraße and in the Komponistenviertel there are numerous Gründerzeit buildings with high ceilings, elaborate stucco and narrow, often winding stairwells. This building fabric is charming, but it poses particular challenges for a move: bulky furniture often won't fit through the stairwell, and many of these buildings simply have no lift.

For exactly these situations we regularly use a furniture lift in Weißensee. It allows wardrobes, sofas and pianos to be moved safely via the façade directly to the floor in question, without damaging walls, banisters or valuable stucco. Especially for moves from the third or fourth floor, the furniture lift saves an enormous amount of time while protecting your furniture and our removal helpers.

Besides classic period buildings, Weißensee also has the blocks of flats along Rennbahnstraße and more modern new-build projects near the Weißer See. These usually have lifts and wider stairwells, so transport there is generally more straightforward. During the survey we already check whether a furniture lift is necessary, whether the stairwell is wide enough or whether special carrying straps are needed for tight bends.

After transport, our fitters handle the proper reassembly as part of our furniture assembly – from the bed and the wardrobe to the fitted kitchen. For the delicate transport of pianos from period flats, we also recommend our dedicated piano transport, which is geared to narrow stairwells and historic buildings.

Popular moving routes from Weißensee

Many moves from Weißensee stay within the district of Pankow or go to neighbouring areas, which allows short journeys and efficient planning. We particularly often handle moves to the adjoining neighbourhood of Prenzlauer Berg, which connects directly to Weißensee via Greifswalder Straße and is popular with young families and commuters.

Moves to the more northerly neighbourhoods of Pankow are also in high demand: to Buch with its green surroundings and hospitals, to Französisch Buchholz with its quiet detached houses, and to Karow, which is becoming increasingly attractive for families with children. The neighbourhoods of Blankenburg and Heinersdorf are also regular destinations for our removal teams, for example when families from Weißensee are looking for more space or a garden of their own.

Besides these moves within the district, we also handle more complex routes, such as moving away from Weißensee to other federal states or neighbouring European countries. For these distances we offer our long-distance moves service, applying the same care as for a local move – from packing and securing the load in the vehicle to arriving at the destination on schedule.

Weißensee's good connections via Berliner Allee and its proximity to the city motorway make both short trips within the city and longer journeys easier. Our dispatchers plan routes so that rush-hour traffic jams, for example on Greifswalder Straße or around Prenzlauer Berg, are avoided as far as possible, so that your moving day stays predictable.

Booking a move in Weißensee: how we work together

Organising a move in Weißensee should be as easy as possible for you. That is why we have clearly structured our booking process, so that from the first enquiry to the last box in your new flat you know exactly what happens next.

In the first step, you contact us via our contact form, by phone or by email and give us the key details such as your address in Weißensee, the size of the flat and your preferred moving date. We then arrange a free survey – either on site, for example in a flat on Berliner Allee or at Antonplatz, or by video survey for simpler cases. During the survey we also record the access situation, the floor and any need for a furniture lift or a no-parking zone.

On the basis of this information we prepare a detailed, binding quote with a fixed price. If you agree, we firmly reserve your preferred date in our calendar. If needed, we take care of official formalities such as the no-parking zone in good time, so that everything runs smoothly on moving day.

On moving day itself our well-coordinated team handles the proper dismantling and reassembly, securing the furniture in the vehicle and transport to the new address – whether within Weißensee, to a neighbouring area such as Prenzlauer Berg or as a long-distance move to another city. On request we also take care of furniture assembly, so that beds, wardrobes and shelves are ready to use straight away. Finally, we tidy up the moving area and remain available for any last questions – your move in Weißensee is thus organised entirely from a single source.

Insider tip Weißensee: the neighbourhood beyond the moving bustle

Even if a moving day is usually tightly scheduled, it is worth looking at what makes Weißensee so special as a place to live – after all, many people move to the neighbourhood precisely because of these advantages. Right by the Weißer See, the lakeside promenade and park invite you for a walk, while on the southern shore in the Park am Weißen See the open-air pool and the Milchhäuschen from 1913 invite you to take a break. If you want to use the first few weeks after your move to settle in, you will find one of Pankow's most beautiful retreats here.

A real insider tip for those interested in culture is the Jewish Cemetery Weißensee, the largest surviving Jewish cemetery in Europe. The park-like grounds with their old trees are not only historically significant but also a quiet, almost hidden place in the middle of the neighbourhood – a contrast to the hustle and bustle of moving day.

Around Antonplatz, the actual centre of Weißensee, numerous cafés, small shops and restaurants have opened in recent years, which are good for a breather between the moving boxes. The lesser-known Fauler See in the south of the neighbourhood also offers a quiet green corner that many newcomers to Weißensee only discover gradually.

For families moving into the neighbourhood, it is also worth noting how easy it is to reach the neighbouring areas: the tram takes you quickly to Prenzlauer Berg, while the quieter, greener areas towards Karow and Französisch Buchholz are also within easy reach. This way, moving to Weißensee becomes a successful fresh start, not only in organisational terms but also as arriving in a neighbourhood that is good to live in.

Applying for a no-parking zone in Weißensee: Antonplatz, Berliner Allee and Pankow district office

For a no-parking zone in Weißensee, contact the road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde) in the Pankow roads and green spaces office (Storkower Straße 97, 10405 Berlin, telephone (030) 90295-0, email [email protected]). According to service.berlin.de, an informal application is sufficient. The fee is at least €21 and depends on scope and duration; processing takes on average about four weeks. The authority issues the order; the signs are put up by a firm specialising in roadworks safety.

State the section of street precisely in the application, for example on Berliner Allee or at Antonplatz. Berlin.de names Antonplatz as the historic centre of Weißensee, with a weekly market held regularly on its northern square. Choose your date so that the market does not interfere with your move, and if in doubt ask the office. On moving day, also keep the order to hand and note the reference number in case the office has any questions.

Allow time for the application as well: the page does not give a binding deadline, and the four weeks are an average. You can read more about our service under no-parking zone, and you will find instructions in our guide Applying for a no-parking zone: step by step. Moving in Pankow takes you to the district page.

Gründerzeit and Taut blocks: residential areas and access in Weißensee

Weißensee consists of very different residential areas. According to the Pankow district office, Antonplatz was laid out in 1874 at the junction of Berliner Allee (called Königschaussee until 1910) and Langhansstraße. The buildings range from four-storey Gründerzeit houses to single-storey buildings. Part of the south side was destroyed in the Second World War and has been a green space with a fountain since 1954.

According to berlin.de, other types of building also shape the area:

  • on Buschallee, Bruno Taut's blocks of flats, around one kilometre long, built from 1928 to 1930,
  • the Holländer-Quartier, built from 1925 to 1929 with red-brick houses and a green inner courtyard,
  • the Gründerzeit villa of the Brecht-Haus at Berliner Allee 185.

This has consequences for your move: in the long blocks on Buschallee, access to the particular stairwell is what counts; in the Gründerzeit quarter, it is the stair width and the floor. We check this during the survey so that the number of carriers can be planned realistically. The Kino Toni opened on Antonplatz in 1920 and is today one of the last cinemas on the square. After moving in, you register within 14 days; you will find help in our guide re-registration after a move. For moves to nearby areas, see Moving in Prenzlauer Berg and Moving in Heinersdorf.

Always one step ahead.
