Moves in Trier with a team travelling from Berlin

Planning before moving day

Unsere Firma comes from Berlin-Moabit for moves in Trier and clarifies bollards, delivery time and parking space with you in advance.
Our company is based at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit, around 718 road kilometres from Trier. For a move in Trier the team travels by lorry. That is why we plan in advance where the vehicle can stop – by the pedestrian zone as well as in Kürenz, Olewig or Euren.
We quote the fixed price after a survey by video or by arrangement. The quote covers the journey, floors, carrying distances and any permits that may be required by the city of Trier – such as a parking restriction or access after 11 am.

Trier FAQ: bollards, parking restriction, Luxembourg

Key answers for your move in Trier

Answers on parking restrictions, the pedestrian zone, costs and registration requirements for your move in Trier and to Luxembourg.

The pedestrian zone lies around the Porta Nigra and the Hauptmarkt. According to the city, the bollards are down from 6 to 11 am; we plan loading and unloading within this time. After that, an exemption permit or a parking restriction outside the door is needed.

Moving in Trier: process and features of the Roman city

Trier is regarded as one of the oldest cities in Germany and lies picturesquely in the Moselle valley, nestled between the ridges of the Hunsrück and the Eifel. This location brings its own challenges for a move in Trier: narrow, historically evolved lanes around the Porta Nigra and the Hauptmarkt, steep climbs towards the Petrisberg, and Roman buildings, the cathedral and the Church of Our Lady, which have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. At Praktik Transport und Umzüge from Berlin-Moabit, we therefore plan every private move taking into account narrow access roads, cobblestones and limited turning space for larger removal lorries.

A typical process begins with a survey by video or by arrangement, in which we record the size of the flat, floor, lift situation and access routes. Especially in areas such as Trier city centre or around the Domfreihof, assessing the parking situation is crucial for a smooth process. We then prepare a transparent quote that takes into account packing materials, furniture assembly and, if necessary, a parking restriction zone.

As Trier is also a busy university city and administrative centre, demand rises especially at the start and end of semester and at the turn of the month. Booking early secures your preferred dates. For smaller transports or partial moves we also offer a part-load, which is particularly suitable for students or commuters who only need to move a few pieces of furniture. Because our team travels from Berlin, we ask about access, floor and carrying distances in detail in advance – from the pedestrian zone to hillside locations such as Kürenz or Olewig. In this way it is settled before moving day where the lorry can stop and load in the Roman city on the Moselle.

Districts and residential areas for your move in Trier

Trier is divided into 19 local districts of very different character, which plays an important role in planning a move. The city centre around the Hauptmarkt and the Porta Nigra impresses with its historic buildings, but is often only partly accessible to larger vehicles. Those living outside the historic core usually benefit from wider streets and easier parking.

  • Trier-Mitte/Gartenfeld: city centre with pedestrian zone, bollard areas and period buildings
  • Trier-Nord: densely built residential quarters north of the city centre
  • Trier-Süd: residential quarters south of the city centre in the Moselle valley
  • Trier-West/Pallien: on the left bank of the Moselle, opposite the city centre
  • Kürenz: Alt- and Neu-Kürenz north-east of the city centre
  • Tarforst and Mariahof: separate local districts on the heights
  • Euren and Zewen: local districts on the left bank of the Moselle
  • Ehrang/Quint and Pfalzel: in the north of the city on the Moselle
  • Olewig: wine village in the valley east of the city centre

For us as a moving company, this diversity means that every job has to be planned individually. In Olewig and other old village centres, access roads can be narrow, while on the edge of the city there is often more room for the lorry. For shared-flat rooms in Tarforst or Kürenz, near the university on the Petrisberg, we agree the date with all flatmates.

The differences in height between the Moselle valley and the surrounding hills, for example towards Kürenz or Filsch, also affect carrying distances and the effort involved in moving furniture. We ask about these conditions during the survey and take them into account in the quote, so that there are no unpleasant surprises on moving day. In this way the process is clarified beforehand in every local district of Trier – from the historic centre to the quiet outskirts.

Moving costs in Trier: transparent prices

The moving costs in Trier depend on several factors: size of the flat, distance, floor, accessibility and any additional services needed, such as packing or furniture assembly. We quote the fixed price after the survey; it also takes into account the conditions of Trier city centre, the hillside locations and the surrounding local districts.

ServicePrice
1-room flatfrom €349
2-room flatfrom €615
3-room flatfrom €884
Long-distance move (per km)from €3.95/km
Parking restriction zone (per day)€30–100

These guide values apply to moves within Trier and to nearby municipalities such as Konz, Schweich or Ruwer. For long-distance moves, for example to Koblenz or Kaiserslautern, we calculate the route transparently by kilometre, so that no hidden costs arise.

Additional costs can arise from narrow access roads in the old town, a lack of lifts in period buildings or particularly bulky pieces of furniture. Piano transport, for example, requires its own securing, which is reflected in the price. Booking a parking restriction zone is also often essential in narrow streets such as in Olewig or the historic city centre, so that the removal lorry can be loaded safely and without parking problems.

We recommend obtaining an individual quote early, as the actual costs depend heavily on the respective living situation. Our pricing is always transparent and is recorded in writing in advance, so that you can plan your move in Trier well financially.

Parking restriction zone and parking when moving in Trier

Anyone moving in Trier's old town or in densely built quarters such as Trier-Nord knows the problem: scarce parking space and narrow streets make loading and unloading considerably more difficult. Especially around the Porta Nigra, the Hauptmarkt and Simeonstraße, a free stopping place is hard to find during business hours. Whether a parking restriction zone is needed outside your front door, we clarify during the survey. It is approved by the Trier city administration; a reserved area directly in front of the building is then available on moving day.

The cost of a parking restriction zone is between €30 and €100 per day, depending on location and duration. In busy areas such as the pedestrian zone or near the Hauptmarkt, the effort for signage and approval can be somewhat higher than in quieter residential areas such as Trier-West or Euren. According to Trier, the city's own fee is between 30 and 200 euros depending on duration and scope; details are given in the section on the application further below.

Especially on steep slopes, for example towards the Petrisberg or Kürenz, a well-thought-out parking solution is essential to avoid long carrying distances and complete the move quickly. For moves in narrow wine villages such as Olewig, where historic lanes offer hardly any room for large vehicles, a parking restriction zone set up early also ensures a smooth process.

According to the city of Trier, the application must be received at least 14 days beforehand, and the signs must be in place at least three days before the move. Planning early avoids conflicts with residents or other people entitled to park and saves time on moving day.

From Trier to Luxembourg, to Saarland and to Berlin

Trier is connected via the A64 towards Luxembourg and via the A602 to the Moseltal motorway junction on the A1. The Luxembourg border at Wasserbillig is around 15 km from the city centre, and the A1 leads towards Saarbrücken or Cologne. This central location in the Greater Region between Germany, Luxembourg and France creates high demand for cross-border moves.

For long-distance moves we charge transparently from €3.95 per kilometre, with the actual costs depending on moving volume, floor and additional services. Destinations within Rhineland-Palatinate include Koblenz, Worms or Neuwied. We also plan moves to Mainz or Kaiserslautern on request.

Between Trier and our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit there are around 718 road kilometres – more than the usual daily driving time of nine hours for a lorry. For such long distances we recommend agreeing the date early, as stopovers and rest periods for the drivers have to be planned in. For smaller quantities we also offer an affordable part-load, where your household goods are transported together with other consignments.

Cross-border moves to Luxembourg City or to nearby Saarland are also part of our range of services. Germany and Luxembourg are EU members; there are no customs formalities for household goods. What matters are the registration deadlines of both countries, which we summarise further below. This way you benefit from one contact for the entire route, whether within Germany or across the national border.

Office and business moves in Trier

Trier is not only a historic city but also an important business and administrative location with numerous authorities, medium-sized companies and service providers. An office move in Trier places particular demands: it must run smoothly, quickly and with as little interruption to business as possible. Our office move service is designed for exactly that.

Many companies are located in business parks such as Trier-Euren or around Trier harbour, where there is enough room for our vehicles to manoeuvre. Other offices and law firms, however, are in the middle of the city centre or in listed buildings, which requires careful logistics planning – for example by setting up a parking restriction zone in front of the office building in good time.

Our services include the professional dismantling and assembly of office furniture, the safe disconnection and recommissioning of IT infrastructure, and the labelling and organisation of files and documents according to a well-thought-out moving plan. For institutes and administrations, for example around Trier University and Trier University of Applied Sciences, we plan time-critical moves with fixed time windows.

As many Trier companies work closely with partners in Luxembourg, Saarland or Rhineland-Palatinate, we also offer cross-regional office moves, for example towards Koblenz or Kaiserslautern. For sites being closed or office space no longer needed, we also take care of professional house clearance, so that rented premises can be handed over swept clean.

Our aim is to disrupt business operations as little as possible during the move. Through close coordination with your contacts in the company, clear schedules and sufficient staff, we make sure that your office move in Trier is handled on time and professionally.

Student moves in Trier and the booking process

With Trier University on the Petrisberg and Trier University of Applied Sciences, the city is one of the important higher-education locations in Rhineland-Palatinate. Demand for a reliable student move in Trier is correspondingly high, especially at the start and end of semester and when switching between shared-flat rooms in areas such as Trier-Süd, Kürenz or the city centre.

Students benefit from our flexible and affordable offers, which are geared to small budgets without compromising on quality and reliability. For smaller moving volumes we often recommend our part-load, where the costs are shared and thus reduced. Spontaneous moves, for example a short-notice change of flat during the semester, are also possible by arrangement; because the team travels from Berlin, we tell you honestly whether your preferred date is feasible.

Our booking process is deliberately kept simple:

  • Free enquiry by phone, email or online form
  • Survey by video or by arrangement
  • Individual, transparent quote with a fixed price
  • Agreeing the date and clarifying whether a parking restriction zone is needed
  • The team travels from Berlin with a suitable vehicle
  • Final check and handover of the new flat

This structured process also applies to senior moves in Trier, for example when moving to a barrier-free flat or a care home, supplemented by particularly sensitive care and help with the organisation. Whether a young student, a working family or a senior citizen – we adapt the booking process flexibly to your individual needs.

Contact us early, especially at the start of semester or at the turn of the month, as demand in Trier is particularly high at these times. This way we can secure your preferred date and a smooth move in the Roman city on the Moselle.

Applying for a parking restriction zone in Trier: city administration, deadline and fee

In Trier you apply for a temporary parking restriction for moves at the city administration, Am Augustinerhof, 54290 Trier. According to the city, an informal written application is sufficient, and an online form is also linked; you must state the location, the period and the length in metres, which depends on the vehicle. The city does not mention any special requirements.

  • Deadline: at least 14 days beforehand. The signs must be in place at least 3 days before use, but may only be put up once permission has been received.
  • Fee: 30 to 200 euros depending on the duration and scope of the permit.
  • Two orders: There is a separate order for each of the moving-in and moving-out locations.
  • Documentation: The set-up must be recorded with the time and exact location; after the move the signs must be made invalid.

The city recommends coordinating by phone on 0651/718-0. It advises against setting up your own barriers with ropes, boxes or chairs; they can be removed and often lead to warning fines or penalties. A container requires a separate application.

According to the city's FAQ "Sichere Innenstadt" (safe city centre), a delivery time from 6 to 11 am applies in the pedestrian zone; the bollards are then down and a move is possible without a permit. Whether a parking restriction is needed outside your door, we clarify during the survey: Parking restriction zone. More information in the guide to moving to Trier.

Moving from Trier to Luxembourg: deregistration, registration and vehicle

Anyone moving from Trier to Luxembourg has to follow two registration procedures. In Germany, § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz) applies: anyone who moves out and does not take up a new home in Germany deregisters with the registration authority within two weeks of moving out. Deregistration is possible at the earliest one week before moving out. Factor this into the schedule for your move.

In Luxembourg you register your residence with the municipality of your new place of residence. According to Guichet.lu, you need a valid identity card or passport and proof of residence, such as the owner's consent, an extract from the tenancy agreement or an extract from the deed of purchase. Requirements may vary from municipality to municipality, so find out in advance. Documents that are not in French, German or English need a certified translation. Registration is also possible online via MyGuichet.lu, for example with LuxTrust or the Luxembourg eID.

  • Third-country nationals: within 3 days of entry.
  • Registration declaration and residence card for family members: within 90 days of entry.
  • Vehicle owners: You inform the SNCA within one month so that the address on the registration certificate is updated.

Guichet.lu does not mention any fees, so ask the municipality. More on moves abroad: International move.
