Moving from Berlin to Hamburg – and back

Removal company Berlin
One motorway from door to door: your move to Hamburg
One motorway all the way to Horn
Hardly any long-distance route is as straightforward as the move from Berlin to Hamburg: from Stromstraße 21 in Moabit, the route takes the A111 past the former Tegel Airport to the Berlin Ring, the A10 to the Havelland junction – and then 238 km on the A24. It runs through Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein, via the Wittstock/Dosse junction and the Schwerin interchange, and ends at the Horner Kreisel roundabout in Hamburg-Horn. In total it is around 284 km, approx. 4 hrs of driving with the moving lorry. We drive the move from Hamburg to Berlin back on the same motorway.
You receive the fixed price after the survey – it stays the same even if traffic slows down at the Hamburg-Ost interchange or before the Horner Kreisel. On request we dismantle and reassemble furniture, secure a piano or art separately and pack the boxes for you. Our liability is governed by the German Commercial Code (§ 451e HGB: €620 per cubic metre of loading space); for particularly valuable items we can agree additional cover on request. We come from Berlin and drive right to the door in your Hamburg district – whether Altona, Eimsbüttel, Wandsbek or Harburg.

Why the A24 makes moving day easy to plan
Your long-distance moving partner in both directions
We come from Berlin-Moabit and drive right to the door in Hamburg. The route has one big advantage: from the Berlin Ring, the lorry stays on a single motorway all the way to Hamburg-Horn. At approx. 4 hrs of driving, it is on paper below the four and a half hours of driving time after which a break is mandatory – if there is congestion, we still plan one in. Whether loading, driving and unloading fit into one day for your volume, we decide during the survey, together with the fixed price and liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
Why people are drawn to Hamburg – and back to Berlin
With around 1.87 million inhabitants, Hamburg is Germany's second-largest city and, as a city-state, also a federal state in its own right. Anyone moving there from Berlin is often following a new job – in the port, which is one of the largest cargo ports in the world, in trade, media or administration – or the wish to live on the Elbe and the Alster, which is dammed in the middle of the city to form the Outer and Inner Alster lakes. We handle the move from Berlin to Hamburg with packing, transport via the A24 and furniture assembly in the new flat.
A move from Hamburg to Berlin often follows the end of a fixed-term contract, the completion of studies or a new job in the capital; some also return to their family. We plan the way back with the same care: survey in Hamburg, fixed price, liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) and a team that drives right to the door in your Berlin neighbourhood.
238 km on the A24: from the Berlin Ring to Hamburg-Horn
From Stromstraße 21 in Moabit to Hamburg it is around 284 kilometres. The lorry takes the A111 (19 km) to the Oranienburg interchange, the Berlin Ring (A10) for around 10 km to the Havelland junction and there joins the A24. It follows it for 238 km – past Neuruppin, via the Wittstock/Dosse junction and the Schwerin interchange, across the former inner-German border near Gudow and finally via the Hamburg-Ost interchange to the end of the motorway at the Horner Kreisel. From there, city streets lead to your new address.
Moving lorries over 3.5 t may drive at no more than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO). That is why we reckon with approx. 4 hrs of lorry driving time instead of the shorter car time. That is just below the four and a half hours of driving time after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break – if there is congestion, the driver takes it. Loading and unloading come on top; whether everything fits into one day, we decide after the survey.
Arriving in Hamburg – or back in Berlin
Hamburg is divided into seven boroughs – Hamburg-Mitte, Altona, Eimsbüttel, Hamburg-Nord, Wandsbek, Bergedorf and Harburg – with a total of 104 neighbourhoods. Hamburg-Mitte includes the HafenCity with the Elbphilharmonie, opened in 2017, and Wilhelmsburg; Horn, where the A24 ends, is also in this borough. The Speicherstadt and the Kontorhaus district have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015. For the move, what matters most is the street outside your new front door: in densely built-up areas we check access and parking space in advance and apply for the parking restriction zone at the responsible road traffic authority in Hamburg.
When moving back to Berlin, parking space in inner-city neighbourhoods such as Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain is almost always scarce; there we apply for the parking restriction zone at the district office. If the moving-in date is not yet fixed, we store your furniture and deliver in Berlin as soon as you have the keys.
