Moving a piano safely
A piano is heavy, top-heavy and delicate. We secure the instrument with straps and piano dollies, protect the surface with blankets and carry it in a controlled way up and down stairs and through narrow hallways – or use the furniture lift. This applies to moves within Berlin just as much as to a long-distance route. In its new location, the piano should not stand next to a radiator, because the humidity should be kept as constant as possible. The rest of your household goods are handled by our furniture transport.
Grand piano transport: legs off, body on edge on the board
Because of its size, weight and delicate mechanism, a grand piano is more difficult than an upright piano. Usually the legs and the pedal lyre are removed, the body is padded and moved on its edge on a transport board. Beforehand we measure doors, bends and landings so that it is clear whether it will be carried or hoisted. That way your grand piano arrives intact at its new location – in Germany and, on request, abroad too.

For each of these heavy loads we clarify in advance the weight, the load-bearing capacity of the stairs and floor, the lifting equipment and the number of carriers.
When is a furniture lift worthwhile?
No lift, a narrow stairwell or a high floor – then the furniture lift is often the safer solution. The piano or safe is hoisted on the outside via a window or balcony instead of being carried step by step. The lift needs space in front of the building; in Berlin this usually means a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone), applied for at the road traffic authority of the district office (Bezirksamt).
How the price for a heavy-load transport is worked out
After a survey or photos of the piano, grand piano or safe and the stairwell, you receive a fixed price after a survey. A flat move is possible from €350, €590, €890 or €1,290; we calculate heavy-load transports individually according to weight, access and distance – for long-distance moves from €4/km. €620 per m³ (§ 451e HGB); additional insurance on request for valuable instruments.
