Key answers for your move in Berlin Borsigwalde
From Moabit we usually approach via Eichborndamm or Holzhauser Straße and then take the shortest route through the residential streets to your address. Landmarks are Eichborndamm S-Bahn station (S25) on the edge of the neighbourhood and Borsigwerke U-Bahn station, which can be reached via a footbridge.
Moving in Borsigwalde: company estate, row buildings and business
Praktik Transport und Umzüge handles moves in Borsigwalde under the Beste Umzug brand – planned from our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit. This neighbourhood in the district of Reinickendorf owes its name to the former Borsig works, which August Borsig established here at the end of the 19th century – this industrial past still shapes the area between Holzhauser Straße, Eichborndamm and the Nordgraben today. Anyone moving in Borsigwalde will find a mix of the listed company estate from around 1900, post-war rows of housing and a business park in the south of the neighbourhood. It is precisely this variety that makes an advance check worthwhile – from the parking situation in narrow estate streets to the approach via Eichborndamm or Holzhauser Straße.
Borsigwalde has no S-Bahn station of its own: Eichborndamm S-Bahn station (S25) lies on its edge, and Borsigwerke U-Bahn station on the U6 in neighbouring Tegel can be reached via a footbridge. Whether a private move from a company house on Räuschstraße or a business move from the business park on Holzhauser Straße – we plan every move in Borsigwalde individually, with an eye on local conditions. This includes the proximity to neighbouring areas such as Tegel and Wittenau, which are possible destinations for many Borsigwalde households.
As a Berlin company, we value transparency, clear agreements and a smooth process – regardless of whether it is a small flat clearance or a complete office move. A survey or video appointment in advance helps to plan for typical pitfalls such as narrow courtyard entrances or limited loading zones from the start, so that your move in Borsigwalde runs on schedule and without nasty surprises.
Process and particular features of a move in Borsigwalde
A move in Borsigwalde differs in several respects from a move in more densely built-up inner-city areas of Berlin. The neighbourhood is characterised by quiet residential streets such as Räuschstraße, Ernststraße and Conradstraße with the old company houses, and by post-war rows of housing such as Drenziger Zeile and Vietzer Zeile. The company houses were originally built for the workers of the Borsig works and often have narrow stairwells, cramped inner courtyards and limited space for removal vehicles directly outside the door. If you are moving here, you benefit from a team that plans for such conditions and moves furniture and boxes safely even over longer carrying distances or through narrow passages.
Another aspect is the transport connections: Eichborndamm and Holzhauser Straße are busy at rush hour, while side streets in the residential area are often tightly parked. For a smooth private move or business move, we therefore check the route, possible loading zones and access from Eichborndamm or Holzhauser Straße in advance. The proximity to commercial premises along the railway line also plays a role in business moves, for example when machinery or office equipment has to be removed from the former industrial sites of the Borsig works.
Especially for moves from estate buildings without a lift, early planning is advisable so that furniture can be moved efficiently over several floors. We rely on a careful team, suitable packing material and, where necessary, technical aids. This way even a move from an upper floor on Schubartstraße or in one of the rows on Trepliner Weg can be carried out without unnecessary delays. Our aim is to include Borsigwalde's building features in the planning from the start, rather than reacting to them only on moving day.
Our moving services for Borsigwalde
For Borsigwalde we offer a comprehensive range of services tailored to the different residential and commercial situations in the neighbourhood. The classic private move is just as much in focus as the business move for smaller businesses that have settled in the business park between Holzhauser Straße and Miraustraße or on the former Waggon-Union site. Companies moving from historic factory buildings into more modern office space in particular appreciate structured logistics that minimise downtime.
For anyone who only wants to move a few pieces of furniture – for example for a move within Reinickendorf or in addition to a larger transport – our part-load transport is a good fit, saving costs without sacrificing professional handling. If a flat in Borsigwalde is to be cleared completely, for example after an inheritance or before a renovation, our clearance service takes care of properly clearing the cellar, loft and living space, including disposal of items no longer needed.
Particularly delicate transports such as piano transport require special care in the narrow stairwells of the estate buildings – our team secures instruments properly and plans the route precisely in advance. After transport we can also take care of furniture assembly, so that wardrobes, beds and shelves are ready to use at the new location straight away. For older residents of Borsigwalde, who often find a change of home a particular challenge, we also offer a sensitive senior move, in which we take time for individual needs and also help with formalities.
No-parking zone and parking for your move in Borsigwalde
The parking situation in Borsigwalde is typical of an established Reinickendorf residential neighbourhood: in the estate streets around Räuschstraße, Ernststraße and Tietzstraße, the street space is often narrow, parked up on both sides and not designed for removal vehicles to stop for long. Anyone who parks a lorry here without prior arrangement risks not only discussions with neighbours but also delays in loading and unloading. For this reason, setting up a no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) early is part of our standard process for moves in this neighbourhood.
We take care of applying for the necessary permit from the road traffic authority of the Reinickendorf district office, put up the appropriate signs in good time before the moving date and thus ensure a clear, safe loading area directly outside the front door. This saves valuable time, reduces carrying distances and protects both furniture and the walls of the building from unnecessary damage. Especially on stretches of street with high parking density, as found in parts of Borsigwalde and neighbouring Tegel, such a zone is often the deciding factor for a quick process.
For business moves from the business park on Holzhauser Straße or from offices near Eichborndamm S-Bahn station, we also check in advance the access options for larger vehicles, as some access roads date from the time the Borsig works were built and are correspondingly tight. If no direct stopping position is possible, we plan alternative solutions such as short shuttle runs with smaller vehicles. This ensures that neither residents nor delivery traffic are unnecessarily obstructed and that your move in Borsigwalde is organised smoothly from the start.
Moving costs and fixed price for your move in Borsigwalde
The moving costs for a change of home in Borsigwalde depend on several factors, which we discuss transparently at the first enquiry. You can also find detailed information and sample calculations on our page on moving costs in Berlin. The most important factors include:
- The size of the flat and the number of pieces of furniture to be moved
- The floor and whether or not there is a lift, which is relevant in many Borsigwalde estate buildings
- The distance between the old and new flat, for example for a move within Reinickendorf or to another Berlin district
- Extra services such as packing service, furniture assembly or clearance
- The need for a no-parking zone because of the local parking situation
As many residential buildings in Borsigwalde date from the time of the Borsig works and some have narrow stairwells without a lift, we calculate the time needed for moving furniture realistically, instead of luring you with unrealistically low flat rates. Instead, we offer a fair fixed price, which is set after a thorough survey or a detailed telephone enquiry and is not changed by hidden surcharges during the move.
Especially for moves between Borsigwalde and neighbouring areas such as Hermsdorf or Frohnau, the effort can be calculated well, as the routes within the district are manageable and we set the route for both your addresses in advance. This gives you a quote that is both fair and reliable – with no surprises at the end of moving day.
Period building, estate building and furniture lift in Borsigwalde
Anyone moving in Borsigwalde will rarely come across classic Berlin Gründerzeit period buildings of the kind common in inner-city districts. Instead, the neighbourhood is shaped above all by the company houses of the Borsig estate, built around 1900 for workers' families, as well as post-war rows of housing and a few newer residential complexes. Many of these estate houses have three to four floors without a lift, narrow stairwells and sometimes tight cellar stairs – conditions that call for careful planning of the move.
In such cases, using a furniture lift is often the most efficient way to get bulky items such as wardrobes, sofas or pianos out safely and without damaging the stairwell walls. We check in advance whether the building conditions in the street concerned – for example on Räuschstraße with its listed façades – allow a furniture lift to be set up, and agree this with the property management and, where necessary, the road traffic authority. Especially for piano transport from an upper floor of an estate house, this advance clarification is crucial for a safe process.
For newer residential complexes with a lift, of which there are a few closer to the boundary with Wittenau, transport is naturally more straightforward. Even so, agreeing lift sizes and usage times with the property management remains important to avoid delays. After the actual transport, our furniture assembly service reassembles shelves, wardrobes and beds on site – a service particularly appreciated for older, often heavier solid-wood furniture from the estate flats, which frequently has to be moved dismantled.
Popular moving routes from Borsigwalde
Borsigwalde lies in the south of the district of Reinickendorf and is connected to the rest of the city via Eichborndamm, the S25 at Eichborndamm station and bus routes 125 and X33. Accordingly, we frequently handle moves to neighbouring areas. Households particularly often move on to Tegel, whether for the proximity to Lake Tegel or for the larger choice of flats in its centre. The route towards Wittenau is also a common one, as Borsigwalde belonged to Wittenau until 2012, and the Nordgraben now forms the boundary between the two neighbourhoods.
For families looking for more greenery and quieter locations, the route often leads further north to Hermsdorf or as far as Frohnau, where detached houses and villa quarters dominate. The Märkisches Viertel with its large housing estates is also a frequent destination, especially for households looking for step-free accommodation with a lift. Those who prefer a quieter location by the water occasionally move to Konradshöhe on the banks of the Havel.
Besides these moves within the district, we also regularly handle moves beyond Berlin's city limits. For customers from Borsigwalde who, for example, are changing jobs to another federal state or want to move closer to relatives, we offer reliable long-distance moves, applying the same care as for a short move within Reinickendorf. The A111 city motorway runs along the edge of the neighbourhood, so longer routes can also be planned well logistically and the transition to a new city or region goes smoothly.
Booking a move in Borsigwalde: process and a tip for afterwards
Booking your move in Borsigwalde with us is simple and personal. In the first step, you contact us by phone or via our contact form and give us key details such as the size of the flat, the floor and your preferred date. For larger moves, for example from one of the company houses on Räuschstraße or from commercial premises on Holzhauser Straße, we recommend a short on-site survey or a video survey so that we can plan for particular features such as narrow stairwells, missing lifts or the need for a no-parking zone straight away. You then receive a specific fixed-price quote covering all the services discussed.
On moving day itself our team takes care of the whole organisation – from proper packing and the private move or business move to the final furniture assembly in your new home. On request we add a clearance of the old rooms so that you can hand the flat over to the property management swept clean. For smaller transports or single pieces of furniture, our part-load transport is also available.
As a small insider tip for after the move, we recommend a walk along the Nordgraben, which separates Borsigwalde from Wittenau and is a good place to take a breather after a tiring moving day. A look at the historic industrial architecture around the former Borsig works is also worthwhile to get to know the history of your new home better. If you have further errands to run, you will also find shops a short distance away in neighbouring Tegel. In this way, a well-organised move goes hand in hand with a good first arrival in Borsigwalde.
No-parking zone in Borsigwalde: applying to the Reinickendorf road traffic authority
For Borsigwalde, the road traffic authority in the roads and green spaces office of the Reinickendorf district office is responsible. According to the district office, it looks after the network of side streets and stationary traffic; main roads are the responsibility of the central Verkehrslenkung Berlin. So check whether your street is part of the main road network, for example on Eichborndamm.
The authority is located at Eichborndamm 242, 13437 Berlin, telephone (030) 902942939, email [email protected]. Important: the district office expressly points out that "applications by email" do not meet the requirement for written form. So send the application in writing and ask the authority for the right form. The page does not state lead times or fees, so the rule is: ask early.
For the application you need:
- Street, house number and the required section of street
- Date and time of the move
- Details of the removal vehicle
Everything you need to know about applying can be found in our guide Applying for a no-parking zone. Our no-parking zone service takes over the organisation if you would rather not do it yourself.
In practical terms: submit the application as soon as the moving date is fixed, and ask the authority whether a new application is needed if the date is postponed. Also let neighbours and the property management know in good time so that nothing gets in the way on moving day.
Borsigwalde: Borsig estate, Eichborndamm and S-Bahn connection
The name Borsigwalde goes back to the Borsig company. According to the Reinickendorf district office, Borsig moved from Moabit to Tegel in 1896 and acquired land in Dalldorf to build workers' housing. Räuschstraße and Ernststraße were completed by 1900; the houses have no side wings or rear buildings, leaving space for gardens. The district office names the façades as listed. So ask your landlord before alterations or before attaching furniture lifts.
At around 2.09 square kilometres, Borsigwalde is a compact neighbourhood. According to the district office, Miraustraße and Holzhauser Straße separate the residential area from the business park. To the east, Eichborndamm marks the edge of the neighbourhood. S-Bahn connections are via Tegel and Eichborndamm stations, and the U-Bahn stations Rathaus Reinickendorf and Borsigwerke are close by. For your move this means: the stations and main roads are good reference points for the approach, but you should still secure the space in front of the building early.
Other neighbourhoods in the district: Wittenau, Tegel and the district of Berlin-Reinickendorf.
For re-registration, the Reinickendorf district office lists the citizens' offices Rathaus, Reinickendorf-Ost, Tegel, Heiligensee and Märkisches Viertel. According to service.berlin.de, registration is free of charge and required within 14 days of moving in. More on this in our article on re-registration after a move. For small flats, our private move is a good choice.
