Moving to Augsburg: Costs Process & Districts

Augsburg guide
Augsburg: Fugger city, water heritage, 17 planning areas
Districts, parking restriction, registration
With around 300,000 inhabitants, Augsburg is the third-largest city in Bavaria and was founded as a Roman settlement more than 2,000 years ago. Since 2019 the Augsburg Water Management System with its canals, water towers and fountains has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the Fuggerei, the Fugger family's social housing settlement, is also well known. Munich is easy to reach by train, which is why many commuters move here. For the move, the exact address matters most: an older building in the city centre or a new build on the outskirts.
If you move to Augsburg, you will find districts with very different characters. We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 568 km via the A9 and the B2; by lorry that takes about 8.5 hours including a break. With our private moving service we take care of packing, transport and assembly. Call us on 01625978461 and receive a fixed-price quote after the survey.

What we take care of when you move to Augsburg
Transport from Berlin, planning for your address
We have no branch in Augsburg; we come with our lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and stairwell in advance – whether an older building in the city centre, a flat in Pfersee or a house in Göggingen or Hochzoll. We plan the parking restriction with the 21 days' lead time the city specifies. You know the fixed price before moving day; for your household goods we are liable under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is available. You can find other places on our locations page.

From
the A9 to the citizens' office
A move to Augsburg comes with its own planning points: the exemption permit for the parking restriction from the Mobility and Civil Engineering Office (Mobilitäts- und Tiefbauamt) with at least 21 days' lead time, narrow stairwells in older buildings in the city centre and registration with the registration authority within two weeks. Piano transport and moves into listed flats are also among the topics. The route and driving time from Berlin are described on our page on the move from Berlin to Augsburg.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Augsburg
Augsburg's districts at a glance
Augsburg is divided into 17 planning areas with different characters. The city centre around the town hall and Maximilianstraße has a historic feel, with older buildings and limited stopping space. The Universitätsviertel (university quarter) in the south offers short distances to the university and the university of applied sciences, while many families are drawn to green Göggingen with its Kurhaus and park.
Lechhausen and Hochzoll lie east of the Lech, Pfersee and Oberhausen west and north of the city centre, with good connections to the station and centre. Haunstetten in the south offers quiet residential areas with new developments and proximity to the Lech. Current property portals show how high rents in your preferred district are at the moment.
Employers, universities and everyday life
Augsburg is an industrial and technology location; well known, for example, is the robot manufacturer KUKA, headquartered in the city, along with mechanical engineering, aerospace suppliers and IT. The University of Augsburg and the Technische Hochschule Augsburg (technical university of applied sciences) ensure a young population and attract students and researchers.
In everyday life, short distances, trams and buses and the rail connection to Munich count. Culture ranges from the Augsburger Puppenkiste puppet theatre to green spaces along the Lech and Wertach. Many newcomers appreciate the combination of a big city and a manageable size. Read more about everyday life in the guide for newcomers to Augsburg.
Moving rates in detail
Our rates at a glance: 1-room flat – from €349; 2-room flat – from €609; 3-room flat – from €905; 4-room flat – from €1,279; house/villa – individual quote; long-distance move – from €3.85/km. Contact us for a free survey.
Moving pricing explained
The most important factor is the volume – the more furniture and boxes, the greater the effort. The distance is charged from €3.85/km, and the floor and lift also play a role. A parking restriction zone makes the process easier but incurs additional costs. If needed, we add furniture assembly or a shared load.

Parking restriction for your move in Augsburg: application, deadline and costs
If you need a removal van outside your front door in Augsburg, you require an exemption permit for stopping and parking. The responsible body is the City of Augsburg, Mobility and Civil Engineering Office, Road Traffic Department (Karlstraße 2, 86150 Augsburg). According to the city, the permit fee is €23 per day and vehicle; on top of that come costs for setting up the traffic signs, which depend on the duration and scope. The processing time is at least 21 days, so the application should be submitted early.
With the application you enclose a site plan showing the desired length of the parking restriction. You can apply online via the city's form system, once as a guest or with a customer account. According to the city, the account is mainly intended for repeat applicants and removal companies. For queries the city gives the number 0821 324-9222 and the email address [email protected]; service hours are by arrangement.
- allow at least 21 days' lead time
- prepare a site plan showing the length of the parking restriction
- check for both the loading and unloading address whether an application is needed
How the application works in general is explained in our guide to the parking restriction zone. You can find our service for this under Parking restriction zone, and our page for the city under Removal company Augsburg.
Augsburg after the move: registration and access to your flat
After moving in to Augsburg, the nationwide registration requirement applies. Under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz) you must register with the registration authority within two weeks of moving in. The authority usually requires confirmation from your landlord, known as the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung), and ID. Tip: have these documents ready before the move so that the appointment is dealt with quickly. How deadlines and online registration work in general is explained in our guides Re-registration after the move: deadlines and Re-registering online.
For the move itself, what counts is the route from the street into the flat. In older buildings with narrow stairwells or no lift we allow more carrying time, and in new builds we look at lift dimensions and loading zones. During the survey we note:
- floor, lift and stair width
- the distance between the front door and the parking restriction
- bulky items such as a piano or wall unit that require special equipment
If you would also like to know what everyday life in the city is like, you can find it in the guide for newcomers to Augsburg. On this basis we calculate your fixed price. Talk to us before the move if your flat is in the attic storey or off a narrow hallway, so that we bring the right equipment.
