Donate furniture instead of throwing it away

Moving company Berlin
Sort out before the move: donate instead of bulky waste
Pass on instead of disposing
A private move almost always leaves pieces of furniture that no longer fit in the new flat. Instead of putting them out as bulky waste, you can pass on items in good condition – in Berlin, for example, to the NochMall, the BSR's second-hand department store, or to charitable organisations. During the survey for your private move we go through with you what comes along and what should leave the flat beforehand. On request, we take sorted-out items to the drop-off point once it has agreed to accept them.
A house clearance or office move also often leaves usable furniture behind. The order matters: first clarify whether an organisation will take the items and whether it collects them itself, then fix the moving date. Anything we transport or dispose of in addition appears as a separate item in the quote; we give you the fixed price after the survey. Whatever nobody wants goes to the recycling centre or bulky-waste collection – so the donation does not become extra stress on moving day.

Plan the sorting-out in from the start
Move, trip to the drop-off point and disposal in one quote
Tell us when you enquire which furniture should not move with you. We then plan what goes to a drop-off point, what is disposed of and what is taken to the new flat, and list each item in the quote. Call us on 01625978461; you receive the fixed price after the survey.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

Take less, pass things on deliberately
Sorting out with a plan
Every piece of furniture that does not travel saves cargo space and carrying time. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and plan with you which items move, which you donate and which are disposed of. Drop-off points decide for themselves what they accept – so clarify the hand-over before the moving date, ideally with photos. We move the rest of your furniture with liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) at a fixed price after a survey.

Our range of services
A move is a good moment to pass on furniture that is still in good shape. We arrange the move planning so that only what you really need in the new flat travels with you.

Long-distance move: sort out beforehand
On a long-distance move sorting out pays off especially, because every cubic metre travels the whole route. If only a few pieces of furniture remain after donating, a shared load instead of a dedicated lorry may suit: your belongings travel on a planned trip, and you pay for the cargo space they take up.

Everything
for your move
Moving raises many questions that go well beyond the transport itself – such as house clearance, donating furniture or choosing between new and second-hand furniture. If you plan early, you can sort things out before the actual private move and make room for a fresh start. With a long-distance move, too, it is worth giving away unnecessary household goods beforehand instead of dragging them along. Our advisers support you individually with each of these steps.

Frequently asked questions about donating furniture
Where to take used furniture? Drop-off points in Berlin
In Berlin, the NochMall, the BSR's second-hand department store at Auguste-Viktoria-Allee 99 (Reinickendorf), accepts furniture, clothing and books in good condition – directly at the store or at selected BSR recycling centres. The BSR also runs an online swap and give-away market and publishes a list of charitable organisations that accept donations. Social department stores and local initiatives are also often glad of working beds, wardrobes or tables.
Before donating furniture, call the organisation or send photos to clarify condition, dimensions and collection. Which recycling centres currently accept items for the NochMall is listed on bsr.de. Once a place has agreed, we take the items there on request as part of the move. Outside Berlin, ask your local waste disposal company about a second-hand exchange.
How to prepare your furniture donation properly
For your furniture donation to actually be accepted, the items should be clean, complete and in working order. Photograph larger pieces in advance and send the pictures to the drop-off point you have in mind to avoid misunderstandings. Minor damage such as scratches is usually not a problem, whereas broken or heavily soiled furniture is often refused.
Ideally plan the donation before the actual moving date so there is enough time for collection and transport. Our team helps you dismantle furniture properly and pack it securely. That way the items reach their new owner undamaged.
