Moving with a care level: care service aids and care bed

Moving for seniors, part 9
When care has to move too: well prepared
Without a gap in care
When a person with a care level (Pflegegrad) moves, it is not just about furniture. The care service needs to know from when it will visit the new address, or whether another service will take over. The care bed, rollator or commode chair often come from the medical supply store and belong to the long-term care insurer (Pflegekasse). And the personal emergency alarm only works once the device is connected in the new flat. Clarifying these three points early avoids a gap in care.
As part of our private moving service, we plan the moving day so that care times stay free and the care bed is set up first.
The care level itself remains in place when you move; the long-term care insurer only needs the new address. People in need of care can end their contract with the home care service at any time without notice (§ 120 SGB XI) – important if a different service takes over at the new place of residence. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and operate nationwide; destinations with their own page can be found in the locations overview. We coordinate the process with relatives and the care service.

Plan the moving date around care
Fixed price after a survey, care times included
During the free survey we clarify when the care service comes, where the care bed should stand and which aids travel with you. You then receive a fixed price and a schedule that you can pass on to the care service and relatives. Call us on 01625978461 and arrange an appointment for your move for seniors.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

Planning a move with care needs
Care times come first
Before a person in need of care moves, we talk to everyone involved: the person concerned, their relatives and, if desired, the care service. We agree when care takes place in the morning, when we load and when the care bed will be standing in the new flat. Aids travel on the last trip and are the first things to be set up again. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per m³); additional insurance is available on request.

Six points before the move
Before the first box is packed, these six things should be clarified. They do not concern the transport but the care – and they decide whether the first days in the new flat go smoothly.

Care,
aids, emergency alarm
Part 9 of our series is aimed at families organising the move of a relative in need of care: how is care secured during the move, what happens to devices on loan from the long-term care insurer and when is the emergency alarm switched over? If the person is moving to another city, you will find more on planning long distances under long-distance moves. Downsizing the household is also covered.

Questions about moving with a care level
Inform the care service and care insurer
The care level is tied to the person, not to the flat – it remains in place when you move. Report the new address to the long-term care insurer as soon as the date is fixed. Check with the home care service whether it will also provide care at the new address. If not, look early for a service at the new location; the existing contract can be terminated at any time without notice (§ 120 SGB XI).
Also inform the emergency alarm provider in advance so that the device is connected immediately after moving in. When the long-term care insurer subsidises a move is explained in part 4 on costs and subsidies.
Care bed: on loan or your own?
The long-term care insurers primarily provide technical care aids such as a care bed or lifter on loan (§ 40 (3) SGB XI). So ask the insurer or the medical supply store whether the device moves with you or whether a new one is provided at the new location.
Your own aids travel with us on the last trip. In the new flat we set up the care bed first, with space on both sides for care.

What determines the price of a move?
The price of your move is made up of several factors: the volume of your household, the distance between the old and new flat (from €4.15/km), and the floor and whether there is a lift. A required parking restriction zone is also reflected in the costs. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a shared load can also change the price.
