Moving day with children: childcare emergency bag and the first night

Moving day with children
A moving day that stays manageable for children
Getting through the day well
On moving day the stairwell, flat and lorry are all busy at the same time – for children, a lot of noise and little space. Younger children are therefore best off spending the day with grandparents, friends or at their usual nursery, while older children can join in with clear tasks. We load the children's room furniture last and assemble it first at the new place. We give you the fixed price for your family move after the survey.
So that nothing disappears into the boxes, pack an emergency bag for each child: snacks, drinks, a change of clothes, medicines, vaccination record and favourite toy. This bag travels with you in the car. You can read what our team takes care of under Private move. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request.

Fixed price after a survey
During the survey we decide in which order things are loaded and assembled – the children's room goes out last and in first. You then receive the fixed price. Call us on 01625978461 to coordinate moving day with your childcare plans for the family move.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we organise moving day
Order instead of chaos
A moving day with children works when everyone knows the order. We discuss beforehand which rooms are cleared first, where the emergency bags are kept and that the cot is assembled by the evening. We give you the fixed price after the survey, and we are liable for transport damage under the HGB. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive nationwide; you will find destinations with their own page under Locations.

What belongs in the emergency bag for children
One emergency bag per child saves you searching through boxes on moving day when hunger, tiredness or a grazed knee strike. These six things should go in it.

For the first night
Part load for late arrivals
Not everything has to come along on moving day: garden furniture, children's bikes from the cellar or a playhouse can follow later. For such partial loads a part load (Beiladung) is suitable, where your goods travel on an existing tour.

Load
in the morning, sleep in the evening
This part of the series focuses on moving day itself: who looks after the children, what belongs in the emergency bag, how to involve older children sensibly and how the children's room is habitable again by the evening. On top of that come the no-parking zone and the loading order. With a long-distance move you also plan an overnight stay or breaks for the children.

Questions about moving day with children
Who looks after the children on moving day?
On moving day the front door and stairwell stand open for hours and furniture is being carried – not a good place for small children. Organise childcare with grandparents or friends early, or let your child go to their usual nursery that day. Older children can be there if they have a clear task, such as counting their own boxes.
For each child, an emergency bag with snacks, drinks, a change of clothes, medicines, vaccination record and favourite toy belongs in the car. Our team at Beste Umzug Unternehmen loads the children's room last, so that it is the first to be set up again at the new place.
The first night in the new children's room
By the evening the cot should be set up and made – familiar bedding, a cuddly toy and a night light help with falling asleep. Pack a separate box for this; what belongs in it is explained in the article Packing a first-night box.
Our movers assemble the bed, shelves and wardrobe. Fix tall shelves and chests of drawers to the wall with anti-tip brackets before the children explore their new room, and check sockets and window handles.
What does the move cost? Prices at a glance
The costs of a move depend primarily on the size of the flat. For a 1-room flat we charge from €375, for a 2-room flat from €599. For a 3-room flat the price is from €899, for a 4-room flat from €1,299. Houses and villas have to be considered individually, which is why we always prepare an individual quote for them. If you move further away, you pay from €4.25 per kilometre for long-distance moves. The calculation is most accurate with a free survey, during which we also discuss how moving day will run.
What affects the price on moving day
How high the costs of your move turn out to be depends on the volume, the distance (from €4.25/km), the floor and whether there is a lift. If there is no parking directly outside the door, we recommend a no-parking zone – in Berlin with signs at least 72 hours beforehand. We are also happy to advise you on furniture assembly and a part load.

Moving day for a long-distance move: with an overnight stay
With a long-distance move, moving day often becomes a journey with an overnight stay: the family travels by car or train, the belongings in the lorry.
