Moving to Ingolstadt: Costs Process & Districts

From Berlin to Ingolstadt
Moving to Ingolstadt: the Danube, the old town and twelve districts
Guide
A move to Ingolstadt takes you to the second-largest city in Upper Bavaria and, after Regensburg, the second-largest German city on the Danube, with around 140,000 inhabitants. Ingolstadt was home to the first Bavarian university (1472) and was a state fortress for a good 400 years; today Audi, together with its suppliers, shapes the region's economy. According to the city, parking spaces in the old town are reserved for short-stay parkers or residents – a lorry needs a permit there. For your private move we clarify access and floor in advance.
We start in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive the lorry around 509 km almost entirely via the A9 to Ingolstadt; including the statutory break that is about 7.5 hours, usually spread over two days with loading and unloading. Whether you are moving from Berlin to Ingolstadt or back to Berlin, we quote the fixed price after a survey. In Ingolstadt you register within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 BMG); your landlord issues the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). More on this under Moving Berlin – Ingolstadt.

What we take care of when you move to Ingolstadt
Planning in Berlin, arrival in Ingolstadt
We have no branch in Ingolstadt; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and staircase in advance – whether it is a flat in the old town or a terraced house in Oberhaunstadt. According to the city, the parking restriction in Ingolstadt must be applied for seven working days in advance, and the signs must be in place 96 hours beforehand – we plan the date accordingly. We quote the fixed price after the survey; we are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre. For your private move we coordinate the date with the flat handover.

Part load for small amounts
For smaller volumes or single items, a part load to Ingolstadt can be cheaper: your belongings share the loading space with other consignments on the same route towards Bavaria. For this you need some flexibility on the delivery day – handy if only a few items are to follow.

Your
move – fully organised
A move to Ingolstadt raises many questions: which district suits you, how much lead time does the parking restriction need, may you put up the signs yourself and what can be registered online? This guide presents the twelve districts from Mitte to Münchener Straße and sums up what the city of Ingolstadt says about parking restrictions, old town parking and registration. On top of that comes the journey of around 509 km from Berlin via the A9. That way you are prepared before the first box is packed.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Ingolstadt
Ingolstadt's twelve districts
Ingolstadt is divided into twelve districts: Mitte, Nordwest, Nordost, Südost, Südwest, West, Etting, Oberhaunstadt, Mailing, Süd, Friedrichshofen-Hollerstauden and Münchener Straße. Below them are numerous sub-districts and localities such as Gerolfing, Haunwöhr, Hundszell or Dünzlau, some of which were formerly separate villages.
The old town in the Mitte district has largely been preserved, with narrow streets, residents' parking and short-stay parking zones. Outside it, housing estates, terraced and detached houses predominate. For the move, the specific address therefore matters: we clarify floor, stairwell and space for the lorry during the survey. Our private move service adapts to this.
Audi, universities and the Klenzepark
Audi, together with its suppliers, is of great economic importance for Ingolstadt and the region; many firms are based in the freight village in the north-west. You can study at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt and at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. We do not quote specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition.
The Danube and the Klenzepark, created for the 1992 State Garden Show around the old fortifications, offer recreation. The Bavarian Army Museum shows its collection in the New Castle. If you are arriving at the start of a semester or a new job, you should set the moving day early: according to the city, the parking restriction needs seven working days' lead time. Long routes from Berlin can be found under Long-distance moves.
Moving costs at a glance
What does a move really cost? Basically, the costs depend on the size of the flat: we move a 1-room flat from as little as €349, for 2 rooms prices start at €609, for 3 rooms from €879 and for 4 rooms from €1,299. For houses or villas we always prepare an individual quote. If you are moving further away, long-distance moves cost from €4.25 per kilometre. It is best to arrange a free survey straight away to receive an exact quote.
Transparent moving costs – these factors count
We calculate the price based on volume, distance (from €4.25/km), floor and lift. An organised parking restriction zone makes loading and unloading easier. Also available to book: furniture assembly and part loads.

Parking restriction for your move in Ingolstadt: application, lead time and signs
In Ingolstadt, the Office for Traffic Management and Geoinformation (residents' parking) is responsible for parking restrictions for moves: Ludwigstraße 34 (entrance Hallstraße), 85049 Ingolstadt. According to the city of Ingolstadt, the application must be made at least seven working days before work begins. The signs must be in place at least 96 hours in advance, and late applications cannot be considered. Private individuals and companies each use their own online application. In urgent cases the city asks you to call in person, which requires an appointment.
The legal basis is important: official traffic signs are only valid if the city, as the traffic authority, has approved them (§ 46 (1) StVO). According to the city, you can borrow the signs from the Office for Building Management at the municipal depot (Bauhof) for a hire fee. For the permit, the city charges an administrative fee that depends on the location of the street and the duration of the signage; it does not give specific amounts on the page.
The office answers questions on 0841 305-2333 or 0841 305-2334 and by e-mail at [email protected]. On our page about the parking restriction zone you can see how we support you with the planning. Calculate the date backwards from moving day: seven working days for the application plus the 96 hours during which the signs must already be in place add up to a realistic lead time of a good two weeks.
Old town, citizens' office and registration in Ingolstadt
According to the city, the streets in Ingolstadt's old town are either paid short-stay parking or reserved for residents during the day. If you want to load furniture there, clarify the exemption permit for moving and deliveries with the Office for Traffic Management and Geoinformation in advance and plan the access to the new address precisely. Especially in historically grown streets: the earlier you know where the lorry may stand and how far the carrying distance to the front door is, the more reliably the moving day can be calculated.
You register at the Citizens' Office, Registration and Passport Department (Bürgeramt, Bereich Melde- und Passwesen) in the New Town Hall, Rathausplatz 4, 85049 Ingolstadt. According to the city, visits are by appointment, made by telephone (0841 305-1500), e-mail ([email protected]) or online. Four procedures are available online: residence registration, notification of a change of main residence, residence deregistration and submission of the landlord confirmation.
Under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act, the registration deadline is two weeks after moving in. Your landlord issues the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung); under § 19 of the Federal Registration Act, the landlord is obliged to cooperate. It is best to get this confirmation when the keys are handed over, and book the appointment at the citizens' office or the online procedure in the week of the move. Further information about the city can be found in the guide to living in Ingolstadt and on our Ingolstadt location page.
