Long-distance move Berlin – Lelystad: route process & schedule

From Berlin to Flevoland
Long-distance move to Lelystad: toll, Gemeente appointment, BSN
Guide
A long-distance move to Lelystad is not a customs matter: the Netherlands is part of the EU, so your household goods cross the border without customs clearance and without an inventory list for the authorities. What needs planning is the route of around 618 km, the Dutch lorry charge (vrachtwagenheffing) for vehicles over 3.5 t and, after arrival, registration with the municipality (Gemeente): anyone staying longer than four months registers in person within five days and receives a BSN (citizen service number). Lelystad is the capital of the province of Flevoland. We handle packing, transport and assembly.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 618 km via the A2 and the A30 at Bad Bentheim into the Netherlands, past Almelo and Zwolle and via Kampen into the Flevopolder to Lelystad. By lorry that takes about nine hours including a break; for larger flats we load the day before. For your home move we clarify access and parking at the new address. What we handle on a long-distance move to Lelystad
Planning in Berlin, arrival in the polder
We have no branch and no partners in the Netherlands; instead we drive by lorry from Berlin-Moabit right to your door in Lelystad. The Stadshart (town centre) has a pedestrian zone with fixed delivery times, so we clarify access with the Gemeente in advance. We pack, carry, transport and assemble; registration, the BSN and health insurance are up to you. For your belongings we are liable under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is possible.

What should be settled before the journey to Lelystad
For the Netherlands you need no customs papers and no inventory list for the authorities. What matters is the appointment with the Gemeente, access at your address and the travel day – we clarify these with you before moving day.
Access sorted
Arrival planned
Registration in view
No customs within the EU
Return trip possible
Storage to bridge a gap
Move affordably with a part load
A part load to Lelystad bundles several small jobs in one lorry that travels the route via Bad Bentheim and Zwolle to Flevoland. This lowers the cost per cubic metre but requires flexibility on the delivery day – often the cheapest solution for single pieces of furniture.

Everything
for your move
A move to the Netherlands covers several topics: the route with driving times and the lorry charge, registration with the Gemeente and the BSN, health insurance, the car and pets. This guide shows what you handle yourself and what we take on. Customs play no role within the EU, not even for furniture or electronics. If the new flat is not yet free, we store your belongings temporarily in Berlin and deliver on the agreed date.

Common questions
Formalities when moving to the Netherlands
As the Netherlands and Germany are both in the EU, there is no customs clearance for your household goods and no inventory list for the authorities when moving to Lelystad. A simple list of boxes still helps when unloading and in case of damage. Anyone staying longer than four months registers with the Gemeente in the personal records database (BRP): in person, by appointment, within five days of arrival; everyone being registered comes along. You receive your BSN at the same time. For the car, you can apply for an exemption from BPM (Dutch vehicle tax) when moving, subject to certain conditions; registration is handled by the RDW (vehicle authority). In Berlin you deregister at the citizens' office (Bürgeramt).
Lelystad as a destination: a capital in the polder
Lelystad was founded in 1967 and named after Cornelis Lely, the initiator of the Zuiderzee Works. The town stands on a polder that only fell dry in 1957 and lies almost five metres below sea level; its oldest part is Lelystad-Haven. The municipal area includes parts of the IJsselmeer and the Markermeer, and the Houtribdijk leads to Enkhuizen. The cost of the move depends on volume, floors and additional services, plus the around 618 km and the lorry charge; after a survey you receive a fixed price. If the flat is not yet free, we store your belongings temporarily in Berlin. We answer frequently asked questions briefly and specifically further below.
Transparent prices for your move
With us you always know where you stand: we move a 1-room flat from as little as €349, for 2 rooms costs start at €584, while a 3-room move is possible from €905. If you live in a 4-room flat, you pay from €1,269, and for a house or villa we prepare an individual quote. We also calculate long-distance moves fairly – from just €3.85/km. Moving costs: what really counts?
Besides the volume of your furniture and boxes, it is above all the distance that affects the final price – here we calculate from €3.85/km. The floor and lift also have an effect, as does a possible parking restriction zone in front of the door. Additional services such as furniture assembly or part load round off the offer.

We offer you a comprehensive package of services around your move: the classic home move with personal support, the professionally organised company relocation for businesses of any size, reliable furniture transport for single pieces, the affordable part load, the convenient move with assembly and thorough clearance for household clearances. Our team carries out every service with the greatest care.
More routes from Berlin
We plan long-distance moves from Berlin (Stromstraße 21), including to the Netherlands; we have no regional offices or partner network. In the locations overview you will find places with their own pages, and more on long routes under Long-distance moves.
On the way to Lelystad: the Dutch lorry charge and driving times
Anyone driving a large removal vehicle to Lelystad will encounter the vrachtwagenheffing (lorry charge) in the Netherlands. According to the official website vrachtwagenheffing.nl, it applies to vehicles of classes N2 and N3 with a technically permissible maximum mass of more than 3,500 kg, regardless of whether they are empty or loaded. It explicitly covers both Dutch and foreign lorries. For billing, vehicles need a contract with a provider and a toll device (tolkastje). The website does not list any registration steps, which is why we check vehicle data and billing before a journey.
On the route, drivers are subject to the driving and rest times of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006. According to the European Commission, these are:
- a maximum of 9 hours of daily driving time, 10 hours twice a week
- a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours at the latest
- at least 11 hours of daily rest
- a maximum of 56 hours of driving per week and 90 hours over two weeks
Between Berlin and Lelystad, driving, breaks and unloading can therefore be spread over one or two days, depending on the scope. We agree access at the destination with you in advance; ask the Gemeente Lelystad about local parking rules (tel. +31 320 279320, [email protected]). More on the process under International move.
Registering in Lelystad: appointment, documents and BSN
After moving in, you register with the Gemeente Lelystad in person. According to the Dutch government website for Lelystad, this requires an appointment, which you can make by phone on +31 320 279320, via lelystad.nl, by email to [email protected] or via the contact form. Everyone who is being registered must attend the appointment, including babies, children and elderly relatives.
According to this website, you should bring:
- a valid ID for each person; a driving licence is not accepted
- your tenancy or purchase agreement, or the written permission of the main tenant or owner
- for a birth, marriage or divorce abroad, the original certificates, which may need to be translated or legalised
Whether legalisation is necessary depends on the issuing country; for this the website refers to the Rijksoverheid (Dutch government) website. If you ask, the Gemeente will tell you by phone what is needed in your case. Registration itself is free of charge; you pay for translations or legalisations yourself. At the appointment you are entered in the population register (BRP) and receive a confirmation letter. According to the website, the citizen service number (BSN) arrives by post within three weeks. The deadline is given by Rijksoverheid.nl: if you are staying for more than four months, you register within five days of arrival.
