Long-Distance Move Berlin – Brussels: Route Registration, Duration

From Berlin to Brussels
Long-distance move to Brussels: from Moabit to the capital region
Guide
A move to Brussels stays within the EU: there are no customs formalities for your household goods. What matters instead is the region's Low Emission Zone, which requires at least Euro 6 for diesel lorries and vans, the parking reservation with the municipality and registering your new address. You will find our other routes under long-distance moves. We take care of planning, packing, transport and assembly.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive the lorry around 756 km via the Rhineland and Leuven to Brussels; that takes about 11.5 hours including breaks – so we use two drivers or an overnight stop. As both countries are in the EU, there are no customs formalities for your household goods. Whether you are moving from Berlin to Brussels or from Brussels back to Berlin: we quote the fixed price after a survey. More in the Brussels moving guide.

Fixed price for your move to Brussels – request a survey
Survey, fixed price, fixed date
Call us on 01625978461 and arrange a survey for your move to Brussels. We take into account the size of your flat, the floor, access, the route of around 756 km and any shared-load wishes, and then give you a fixed price. Places with their own pages can be found under Locations.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

What we take on when you move to Brussels
Planned in Berlin, arriving in Belgium
We have no branch in Brussels; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and stairwell in advance – whether it is an older building in Saint-Gilles, a flat in Ixelles or a house in Uccle. We apply in good time for the permit to stop outside the new address, following the City of Brussels' rules. We give you the fixed price after the survey; we are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre. For your private move we coordinate the date with your address registration at your municipality.

Moving
service without compromise
A long-distance move to Belgium involves more than transport: registering with the municipality of your new home, the police visit to check your residence, deregistering in Germany and the Low Emission Zone for the lorry all have to fit together. On top of that come around 756 km of driving with statutory driving times and the parking reservation in one of the 19 municipalities. Within the EU there are no customs formalities for household goods. That way your move to Brussels runs with no idle time.

Frequent questions
Customs and formalities when moving to Belgium
As Belgium is a member of the European Union, there are no customs formalities for private individuals' household goods. A list of your belongings is still useful, for example for insurance and as proof for vehicles or valuable items.
What matters is registering with the municipality (commune/gemeente) where your new home is, on time; the municipalities give a deadline of eight (working) days for this. EU citizens then receive their residence document. If you bring a car, clarify registration and deadlines in advance with the Belgian authorities.
Costs and process of your long-distance move to Brussels
The cost of a move to Brussels depends on the moving volume, floor, access and extra services such as packing or furniture assembly; from Berlin it is around 756 km. We quote the fixed price after a survey, with extra services listed as separate items.
The process covers the survey, a moving plan, packing and transport via the Rhineland and Leuven. In Brussels we take care of assembly and kitchen fitting on request; we plan the parking reservation with the municipality in advance.
What your move will cost
The question of costs can be answered with guide prices: from €375 for a 1-room flat, from €584 for 2 rooms, from €879 for 3 rooms and from €1,324 for 4 rooms. A house or villa requires an individual quote, as many factors play a role. For a long-distance move we charge from €3.85/km. The easiest way is a free survey, during which we clarify everything else.
Pricing in the move: this is what counts
The amount of belongings, the route to be driven at from €3.85/km and the floor and lift largely determine the price. A parking restriction zone ensures a smooth process on moving day. For special requests we offer furniture assembly and shared loads.

Brussels: Low Emission Zone and the removal vehicle
The Brussels Region operates a Low Emission Zone (LEZ). According to lez.brussels, it covers cars, vans and (mini)buses registered in Belgium or abroad. As the minimum standard, the site gives the Euro 6 emission class for diesel lorries, vans, buses and cars, and Euro 3 for petrol, CNG and LPG vehicles. A removal vehicle registered abroad is therefore not automatically exempt.
If a vehicle does not meet the standard, lez.brussels mentions a day pass for €35 per day, which can be bought up to 24 times per year per vehicle. For recorded offences the site gives a fine of €350. There are also exemptions for certain vehicle types; lez.brussels lists which ones these are, and how to register a foreign vehicle, in separate sections that you should check before your moving date.
According to lez.brussels, vehicles newly affected from 1 January 2026 (Euro 5 diesel and Euro 2 petrol) first receive a warning letter after a first recorded offence; a fine of €350 can follow at the earliest three months later if the vehicle is still non-compliant. For your planning this means: when getting quotes, ask which emission class the vehicle used has and whether a pass will be needed. That way you avoid surprises on moving day. General notes on formalities and process can be found in our article Moving to Belgium: customs, formalities and process.
Brussels: 19 municipalities and address registration
According to be.brussels, the Brussels-Capital Region consists of 19 municipalities, including Brussels (City), Ixelles, Schaerbeek, Uccle, Etterbeek, Anderlecht and Saint-Gilles. Each municipality keeps its own civil status and population registers. So the responsible authority is the administration of the municipality where your new address is, not "Brussels" as a whole. This also matters for questions about registration and use of the street on moving day.
As an example, the City of Brussels describes on brussels.be how to register a move within the city: the new address must be reported within 8 working days of moving in, and the fee is €6. You can register online via "Mon Dossier" with eID and PIN, or in person without an appointment at the Brucity Administrative Centre (Rue des Halles 4, 1000 Brussels). A police officer then checks on site that you actually live there. The city expects it to take about four weeks until your ID card is updated.
If your household is moving from abroad, please check the documents directly with the responsible municipality; procedures can differ from one municipality to another. Appointments and documents from the city can also be accessed via the MyBXL portal (mybxl.be). Everyday life and neighbourhoods are described in our guide Living in Brussels.
