728 km to the Scheldt: the lorry route to Antwerp

Route, LEZ, deadlines

Unsere Firma comes from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and drives via the A2, past Venlo and Eindhoven, to the Flemish port city.

A move to Antwerp starts in Berlin on the A2 towards Hanover and the Ruhr, continues via the A42 and A40 to the Dutch border at Venlo and then via the A67 past Eindhoven onto the E34 to Antwerp. That is around 728 road kilometres – about 11 hours by lorry including statutory breaks, and therefore more than the daily driving limit of 9 hours. We therefore plan two drivers or an overnight stay. There are no customs: Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium are EU members, and your household goods cross both borders without customs papers.

We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and take care of packing, transport and reassembly in your new home. Before departure we register the vehicle for Antwerp's low-emission zone (LEZ), and for the space outside the building a parking ban from the city is needed. After a survey we give you a fixed price. What else to bear in mind for moves abroad is explained under International removal.

What we handle for your move to Antwerp

Transport from Berlin, paperwork on your side

We have no branch in Belgium; we drive the lorry from Berlin-Moabit. We pack, carry, transport and reassemble; we handle the LEZ registration of the removal vehicle before the journey. Registration with the city, the residence check and, where applicable, registering your car you handle yourself – we tell you in advance which deadline runs from moving in. For your belongings we are liable under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre; additional insurance is possible. More destinations can be found in the locations overview.

Packing Service

We pack crockery, books and electronics for the long journey and label every box by destination room in Antwerp.

Two drivers or an overnight stay

Around 728 km is more than one day's driving time; with two drivers or an overnight stay the lorry arrives in Antwerp well rested.

Low-emission zone checked

According to the Flemish Government, foreign vehicles may only enter the LEZ after registration – we take care of this before departure to Antwerp.

Furniture Transport

Pianos, display cabinets or designer pieces travel padded and secured across two borders right into your new home in Antwerp.
FIXED PRICE AFTER A SURVEY

Our moving services at a glance

The cost of a move to Antwerp depends on the volume, floor, access at the destination and the roughly 728 km. After the survey we give you a fixed price that includes a second driver or an overnight stay and the lorry tolls.

01

Fixed loading day

Loading and arrival days are confirmed in writing so that you can arrange the key handover in Antwerp with certainty.
02

Parking ban in good time

Under the standard procedure the city requires the application 5 working days in advance; we give you the vehicle length and time window for your address in Antwerp.
03

Papers in your hand luggage

ID, rental contract and deregistration confirmation from Berlin travel with you, not in the lorry – you need them to register in Antwerp.
04

Planned backwards

We plan backwards from moving-in day: notice in Berlin, packing dates, the journey with an overnight stay and arrival in Antwerp to match the start of your tenancy.
05

Storage if there is a gap

If your home in Antwerp is not yet free, we store your belongings in Berlin in the meantime and deliver on the new date.
06

Ready to move in

Beds and wardrobes are up, the boxes are in the right rooms – and you are at home when the police come for the residence check in Antwerp.
FOR SMALL LOADS

Save with a part load

Small move, small price

If you have only a few pieces of furniture, a shared load to Antwerp can be cheaper than your own lorry: your belongings travel with other consignments towards the Benelux countries. In return you need some flexibility on the delivery day – suitable if you live in furnished accommodation at first or only individual pieces of furniture are to follow.

What a move to Flanders involves

A move to Antwerp involves more than the transport: registering the lorry for the low-emission zone, the parking ban outside the building, registration with the city followed by a residence check and, where applicable, registering your car. The official language is Dutch. On top of this comes the choice between your own lorry and a shared load. This guide sets out the route, parking and deadlines; the official steps in order can be found in the checklist for Belgium.

Planning safe and relaxed

Set the loading day so that you have time for the city in the first days after arrival – this applies to every home removal, senior move or student move to Antwerp, because official guides state eight working days for registration.

Furniture, boxes, transport routes

With our packing service, careful furniture transport and a coordinated parking ban, furniture also reaches the Art Nouveau houses of Zurenborg or flats on the Eilandje in Antwerp.

Costs, timing and special cases

The roughly 728 km have the biggest influence on the cost; a second driver or overnight stay and the lorry tolls are added. For small quantities or a flexible delivery day, a shared load to Antwerp noticeably lowers the price.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about a long-distance move to Antwerp

Customs, route, low-emission zone, registration, car and costs – answered briefly.
No. Germany and Belgium are EU members; for your household goods there is neither a customs declaration nor import duty, including in transit through the Netherlands. An inventory list still helps with liability and unpacking. For a car you take with you, what matters is not customs at the border but later registration in Belgium.

No customs, but deadlines: formalities in Belgium

As Belgium, like Germany, is a member of the European Union, there is no customs clearance and no import duty for your household goods. An inventory list is still useful – for liability and unpacking, not for customs.

What matters are the formalities after arrival: official guides state eight working days for registering with the city (Stad Antwerpen). As an EU citizen you first receive the registration certificate there (Annex 19); the police then check with a home visit whether you actually live at the address, and only then does the electronic EU card follow. Deregister in Berlin beforehand and take the deregistration confirmation with you.

Route and process of a long-distance move to Antwerp

A move to Antwerp starts with the survey in Berlin: we estimate the volume, clarify the floor and access at the destination and then give you a fixed-price quote. On loading day we drive via the A2 towards the Ruhr, cross the border at Venlo and go through the Netherlands via the A67 and E34 to Antwerp – around 728 km, about 11 hours by lorry including breaks.

Because of driving-time rules, two drivers take turns, or we stay overnight on the way. At the destination we unload within the approved parking ban and assemble the furniture in your new home. This keeps your international move predictable.

Price overview for your move

The cost of your move depends on the size of your home: we move a 1-room flat from €369, a 2-room flat from €594, a 3-room flat from €915 and a 4-room flat from €1,344. For houses and villas we prepare an individual quote. For long-distance moves a price per kilometre from €3.85/km applies. Arrange your free survey today.

This determines your moving price

The decisive factors are first of all volume and distance – the latter we charge from €3.85/km. The floor of your home and whether there is a lift are also factored into the calculation. Sometimes a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) is also required. On request we also provide furniture assembly and shared load.

Moving made easy – our services

You can book these services for your move to Antwerp individually or together:

  1. House clearance: we carry out the house clearance quickly and reliably.
  2. Move with assembly: the move with assembly includes dismantling and assembling your furniture.
  3. Shared load: the shared load is a flexible and affordable solution.
  4. Furniture transport: with furniture transport the safety of your goods comes first.
  5. Company relocation: your company relocation is coordinated professionally.
  6. Home removal: the home removal with a fixed contact person in Berlin.

Antwerp: low-emission zone (lage-emissiezone, LEZ) for the removal lorry

Antwerp is one of the few Flemish cities with a low-emission zone: according to the Flemish portal vlaanderen.be, Antwerp and Ghent are the only Flemish cities with a lage-emissiezone (LEZ). This matters for the removal van, because the rules apply to vehicles in categories M, N and T with diesel, petrol, gas, bioethanol or hybrid drive. Lorries fall into categories N2 or N3. If there is no information on the Euro standard, the date of first registration determines access.

For foreign vehicles, vlaanderen.be gives the rule "Toegelaten na registratie", i.e. access after registration. Electric and hydrogen vehicles are always permitted. Anyone entering with a non-permitted vehicle receives a fine; the site does not give amounts.

Since 1 January 2026, changed conditions and rates have applied in Antwerp for "Toelating na betaling", access against payment. On 28 November 2025 the Flemish Government decided to reverse all planned tightening; the existing access rules remain valid. You can check the status of your registration number online at lez.antwerpen.be, and the registration of foreign vehicles should be clarified before the journey.

Plan the check before the journey, not on site. What the process of a long-distance move looks like is set out on the long-distance move page, and the cost and district overview in the Antwerp moving guide.

Antwerp: declaring your residence and proving your main residence

Anyone moving to Antwerp must declare their residence with the municipality. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior (ibz.rrn.fgov.be): anyone moving their main residence to a Belgian municipality submits the declaration to the municipality in which they settle, within eight working days of actually moving into the new home. If the whole household moves, only the reference person may submit the declaration.

The main residence is the place where the household members usually live, or for people living alone, the place where they usually reside. What counts is actual residence in a municipality for most of the year. As indications, the ministry names, among others:

  • the place you return to after work,
  • the children's school and the workplace,
  • the consumption of electricity, water and gas as well as telephone costs,
  • the usual whereabouts of your spouse and family.

Which documents and translations the Stad Antwerpen requires in your individual case, clarify directly with the city before the appointment. Do not forget to deregister in Germany: according to service.berlin.de, this is possible from seven days before moving out until 14 days afterwards and is free of charge.
