An IT Relocation: Avoid These Mistakes

Learning from other people's mistakes
IT move: seven mishaps that can be avoided
Avoid these mistakes
An IT move rarely goes wrong because of a dropped monitor. Planning mistakes are more common: the backup cannot be restored, the internet line at the new site has not yet been activated, nobody knows which cable goes where, or the lift is reserved for another tenant on moving day. Or, in winter, computers come out of the cold lorry and are switched on straight away, even though condensation has formed inside. All of this can be avoided with a little lead time – otherwise it costs a whole working day on Monday when nobody can work properly.
Many mistakes arise because the tasks have not been allocated. Your IT team is responsible for data, shutting down and getting systems running; we are responsible for padding, packing and transport. We give you the fixed price after the survey, and we are liable for your belongings under the German Commercial Code (HGB). On request we coordinate the IT move with a private move or a long-distance move to another city.

Spot mistakes early – during the survey
Clarify routes, lift and schedule in advance – not on moving day
Call us on 01625978461 and arrange a free survey for your IT move. We look at the devices, routes, lift and loading zone and agree the schedule with your IT team. Afterwards you receive a fixed price – with no surprises in the costs.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

Why IT moves fail
Four causes, four remedies
Most mishaps in an IT move have four causes: too little time, unclear responsibilities, missing labels and false expectations about liability. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and take on the physical part of the move according to a fixed plan: padding, packing, carrying, transport and furniture assembly. You know the fixed price in advance. We discuss which tasks remain with your IT team during the survey – so none slips through the net.
Too little time
Unclear responsibility
No labelling
Liability overestimated
Seven mistakes – and what helps
You can see six of the seven typical mistakes in an IT move here; the seventh – a schedule that is too tight – is behind almost all of them. Each can be avoided with a simple measure.
Backup not tested
Line ordered too late
Cold devices switched on
Hard drives transported unprotected
Thrown into boxes yourself
Damage not reported
Small volumes, the same care

From
planning to assembly
Many mistakes in an IT move also affect other electrical appliances – you can read how to secure the printer, coffee machine or fridge in the office in the guide Securing electrical appliances for transport. For furniture, files and workstations there is our office move, and for long distances long-distance moves. You will find places with their own pages under locations. Anyone who moves furniture and technology on one date avoids duplicate journeys and duplicate arrangements.

Questions about typical mistakes
Where in the process the mistakes lurk
Most mistakes happen before moving day: no inventory list, no tested backup, the internet connection only ordered after the move, the parking restriction zone applied for too late. In Berlin, processing takes about four weeks, and the signs must be in place 72 hours beforehand.
On moving day itself, little happens if everything is padded, labelled and loaded according to plan. The time afterwards is critical again: devices switched on too early in the cold, cables mixed up, damage not noted. So plan enough buffer before the first working day for your IT team to get the systems running.
An expensive mistake: costs budgeted wrongly
The costs of an IT move depend on the number of devices, the distance, the floor and lift, and the time window. A common mistake is to budget only for the transport and forget the working time of your own IT team – it is needed for shutting down, dismantling and getting systems running, regardless of who does the carrying.
At Beste Umzug Unternehmen you receive a fixed price after the survey; packing material and evening or weekend dates are listed in it as separate items. So you see in advance whether a surcharge applies.
Moving prices clearly summarised
With us, small moves start from €339 for a one-room flat. Somewhat larger moves, such as a two-room flat, cost from €605. A three-room flat comes to from €909, a four-room flat from €1,269. If you live in a house or villa, you receive an individual quote from us. For long-distance moves a price from €3.95 per kilometre applies. The quickest route is a free survey.
Why does every move cost a different amount?
Every move is different – what matters is the volume of the household and the distance from €3.95/km. The floor, a missing lift and an arranged parking restriction zone are also reflected in the price. Additional services such as furniture assembly and shared load round off the offer.
