Moving with assembly: frequently asked questions

Questions & answers
Moving with assembly: what customers ask most often before the appointment
Answered in brief
Before a move with assembly, most questions revolve around three topics: what exactly will be dismantled and reassembled? What is not included – such as connecting the cooker or gas appliances? And who is liable if a piece of furniture breaks while being taken apart? On this page you will find the answers in brief; we answer them in detail in a conversation or during the survey. If you know the answers beforehand, you can calmly sort out the furniture list, the appointments with specialists and the question of additional insurance, instead of deciding under time pressure on moving day.
The legal basis is simpler than many people think: under § 451a HGB, dismantling and reassembling furniture is one of a removal company's duties if it has been agreed. For damage to your belongings, the statutory liability of €620 per cubic metre of cargo space applies (§ 451e HGB). Visible damage must be reported no later than the day after delivery. What we do and do not take on for assembly is described on the page move with assembly; the answers below go into the individual points in more detail.

Your question isn't here?
Give us a call – fixed price after a survey
If your question is missing here, call us on 01625978461. For a binding price we look at the furniture that is to be taken apart during the move with assembly and then quote a fixed price. It states which furniture will be taken apart, whether wall fittings are included and on which day reassembly takes place.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

The four most frequent questions in one sentence
Answered in detail further down
We are based in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and, for a move with assembly, take care of dismantling, transporting and reassembling your furniture. We hear four questions in almost every conversation – here is the short version, answered in detail in the frequently asked questions further down. If something is different in your case, such as a gas kitchen or very old furniture, raise it during the survey. We are liable for damage to your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of cargo space; for expensive furniture, additional insurance makes sense.
What is included?
Who connects the cooker?
Who is liable?
When to report?
Six questions that often come too late
Many people only ask these questions on moving day. With a move with assembly it pays to clarify them beforehand – most only take a few minutes.
Will the wardrobe fit?
Will the wall hold?
Where do valuables go?
Who carries what?
Washing machine?
An invoice for tax purposes?
And if only one wardrobe is moving?
A frequent question: is a lorry of your own worthwhile for one or two pieces of furniture? A shared load is often cheaper – your furniture travels on the same tour as other orders. You get a time window instead of a fixed appointment.

Twelve questions on moving with assembly
What is included in a move with assembly – and what is not
A move with assembly includes taking apart the agreed furniture, collecting and labelling screws and fittings, transport and reassembly in the new flat according to the layout plan. Wall fittings such as wall cupboards, shelves or TV brackets are explicitly listed in the quote if they are to be included.
Work on the electrical, gas or water installation is not included. The electric cooker and hob are connected by a qualified electrician; work on the gas system and significant changes to the water installation may only be carried out by registered installation companies (§ 13 NDAV, § 12 AVBWasserV).
Liability, reporting damage and tax
Because dismantling and reassembly are legally part of the removal contract (§ 451a HGB), the statutory liability applies to damage to your furniture: €620 per cubic metre of cargo space (§ 451e HGB). For expensive individual items, additional insurance makes sense. Report visible damage no later than the day after delivery, hidden damage within 14 days.
For tax purposes, with a privately motivated move you can claim 20% of the labour costs, up to a maximum tax reduction of €4,000 a year for household-related services (§ 35a EStG). Requirement: an invoice and payment by bank transfer.
Moving prices in detail
Wondering what a move costs? It is quite simple: 1-room flats start from €369, 2-room flats from €584, 3-room flats from €884 and 4-room flats from €1,299. For houses or villas there is an individual quote, and we charge long-distance moves from €3.80/km. It is best to arrange a free survey straight away.
Calculating moving costs: this is what matters
The calculation depends first and foremost on volume and distance (from €3.80/km). Then come the floor, lift and, where applicable, a parking restriction zone. If you also need furniture assembly or a shared load, you should say so early on.
