Living in Wavre: centre Basse-Wavre, Limal and Bierges

Wavre for newcomers
Life in Walloon Brabant: Wavre at a glance
Arriving between Brussels and Namur
As the capital of the province of Walloon Brabant (Brabant wallon), Wavre lies on the Dyle and on the E411 motorway between Brussels and Namur. The town has around 35,000 inhabitants; besides the centre with the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, it includes Basse-Wavre and the former municipalities of Limal and Bierges. We are based in Berlin and handle your private move from planning to the last box – furniture transport, packing and, on request, interim storage.
For your move from Germany to Wavre, no customs duty applies within the EU; read more about the long route from Berlin under Long-distance moves. The districts of Limal and Bierges lie on the slopes of the Dyle valley, and some streets in the centre are narrow – we take this into account when choosing the vehicle and schedule. Your household goods are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and we give you the fixed price after the survey.

What we clarify before you move in to Wavre
Parking zone, access, appointments
In the centre of Wavre around the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste there is a regulated parking zone, monitored by Streeteo; the town has no dedicated page on stopping spaces for moves. Before the move we therefore ask the "Espace public" department and check the floor, stairwell and access – whether it is an old building on the Dyle or a house in Bierges. We are based in Berlin and have no office in Belgium; your household goods are covered by liability under the HGB, and we give you the fixed price after the survey. Only one room for Wavre? Part load!
If you are only bringing one room or a few pieces of furniture to Wavre, for example to study in nearby Louvain-la-Neuve, a part load (Beiladung) is often cheaper: your goods share the load space with other consignments heading to Belgium. In return, the delivery day is somewhat more flexible.

Living,
registering, settling in
After moving to Wavre, practical questions arise: registering with the Service Population or Service Étrangers, choosing between a flat near the station and a house in Limal or Bierges, the parking zone and bulky waste. If you commute to Brussels, you should know that Wavre station has no direct trains to the capital. We help with packing, assembly and storage.

Questions about living in and moving to Wavre
An overview of Wavre's districts
The centre of Wavre around the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the town hall offers shops, restaurants and short distances; some streets are narrow and a regulated parking zone applies. If you prefer somewhere quieter, Bierges and Limal, which were incorporated in 1977, offer residential streets with plenty of greenery and access to the E411.
Basse-Wavre lies on the Dyle north of the centre and has its own focal point in the Basilica of Notre-Dame. Profondsart belongs to Limal and lies near the Bois de Lauzelle woodland, which borders Louvain-la-Neuve. Each district has its own character, which we take into account when planning the move.
Flat hunting, work and leisure in Wavre
We do not quote specific rents or purchase prices because we have no reliable, up-to-date source for them; compare listings on portals such as Immoweb. A rental deposit held in a blocked account is customary. An important employer is the pharmaceutical group GSK, which has a large site in Wavre; in addition there are the town's business parks and the proximity to Brussels.
The university town of Louvain-la-Neuve, home to UCLouvain, borders Wavre to the south. For leisure, there is the Dyle valley, the Bois de Lauzelle and the Walibi amusement park, which lies within Wavre's boundaries. Companies relocating employees often use our private move service for the move.

Process: registration and change of address in Wavre
The town of Wavre's residents' registration service (Service Population) is at Place des Carmes 8 and sees visitors by appointment only. According to the town, the hours are: Mondays and Thursdays 9.00 am to 12.00 noon; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9.00 am to 12.00 noon and 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm; Saturdays 9.00 am to 11.45 am. For changes of address and registrations, write to [email protected] or call 010 23 03 81 (option 1); you can reach the Service Étrangers for EU and non-EU citizens at [email protected] (option 4).
You apply for a change of address by email only after moving in; according to the town, applications made before moving in are not processed. You must state the surname, first name and national register number or date of birth of everyone moving, the old and new address, a mobile number, the times when the local police officer (Quartierpolizist) can find you at home, and whether you keep dogs of "dangerous" breeds or new pets. You should attach a scan or photo of your identity card (front and back).
According to the Federal Public Service Interior, the legal deadline is eight working days from the actual move-in date.
The town has no dedicated page on parking spaces in front of the building; address questions about public space to the "Espace public" department ([email protected], 010 23 03 61). You can find our support with parking restrictions under Parking restriction zone, and costs and planning under Moving to Belgium.
Wavre on the ground: parking zone, bulky waste and Recyparc
Wavre has a zone with regulated, paid parking; according to the town, it is monitored by the company Streeteo. With the residents' card (carte de riverain) you park in the zone free of charge and without a time limit, except in a few streets named in the list. Your vehicle details must be registered with Streeteo. Streeteo Wavre (02 626 09 62, [email protected]) deals with tariffs, times and questions about moves.
For bulky waste the town names three options: the inBW association collects from your home by appointment (tel. 0800 49 057) and charges 20 euros for 1 m³, 35 euros for 2 m³ and 45 euros for 3 m³. The Restor resource centre (ressourcerie) offers households in Wavre a free collection once per quarter if at least 25 per cent of the items are reusable. "Les Petits Riens" also collects bulky items free of charge.
The Recyparc is in Gastuche, Chaussée de Longchamps, and is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 9.30 am to 5 pm, closed on Sundays and public holidays. According to inBW, residents of Walloon Brabant have access (with a few exceptions); 2 m³ per visit and 5 m³ per month are allowed, and since 2025 a points system has regulated visits.
Wavre station is on line 139 Leuven–Ottignies; on weekdays there is a train every 30 minutes, at weekends every hour.
