Tilburg for newcomers: Brabant university city between Breda and Eindhoven

Newcomer's Guide to Tilburg
Tilburg: from eight villages to a university city
The first few weeks
Tilburg lies in the middle of the province of North Brabant, between Breda to the west and ’s-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven to the east. The city grew out of around eight villages and at the beginning of the 20th century was one of the most important textile centres in the Netherlands. Today the municipality also includes Udenhout, Berkel-Enschot and Biezenmortel. Within the EU, household goods do not need customs papers.
We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and plan your home removal to Tilburg from the survey to the last box – with a fixed price and liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB). You can find out more about the process under home removal. For cross-border moves, read our overview of international moves.

How we prepare your move
Access, parking, date
Tilburg's centre is heavily regulated: according to the municipality, outside the morning hours you need a traffic exemption to drive in, and residents' parking is handled via the Digitaal Parkeerloket. That is why we clarify time windows, vehicle length and stopping place with you before moving day – in the centre as well as in Reeshof or Berkel-Enschot. We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and handle packing, transport and furniture assembly; your belongings are covered under the HGB. Destinations with their own page: Locations.

What
newcomers should settle early
When moving to Tilburg, registration with the gemeente (municipality), the BSN and flat hunting come first. According to the municipality, renting in some parts of Groenewoud requires a housing permit, and the Huurteam Tilburg offers advice. We advise you on access, the parking permit and the moving date so that your start goes smoothly. We also take flats without a kitchen or floor covering – not uncommon in the Netherlands – into account when planning assembly and transport.

Questions about living in Tilburg
Neighbourhoods and villages of Tilburg
Tilburg grew out of around eight small villages by the 11th century at the latest, whose names live on in neighbourhoods such as de Heuvel, ’t Heike, Korvel, Broekhoven, Oerle, Hasselt and ’t Goirke; Tilburg only received town rights in 1809. For its area development, the municipality lists the Binnenstad, Noord, West, Zuid and Reeshof as separate areas.
Since 1997 the former municipalities of Berkel-Enschot and Udenhout have been part of Tilburg, and since 2021 the village of Biezenmortel too. If you would like village life, look there; if you want short distances to the station and city centre, the Binnenstad is a better bet. When viewing, also check the parking rules for the street.
Working, studying and leisure in Tilburg
Tilburg has a university, a renowned music academy and several universities of applied sciences. Industry is varied – including chemicals, photographic and office supplies and printing –, and in the service sector a bank and the insurers Interpolis and CZ have their headquarters here. The textile history lives on in the Textielmuseum, which is part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
We deliberately do not give reliable current rent figures here; for your search, the municipality refers to Woning In Zicht and the housing associations TBV Wonen, Tiwos, WonenBreburg and Woonzorg Nederland. In your free time, the 013 music venue, the De Pont museum, the Beekse Bergen safari park in Hilvarenbeek and the Efteling theme park north of the city beckon. Every year in July, the largest funfair in the Netherlands takes place for around ten days.
Guide prices for moving to Tilburg
The answer is simple: it depends on the size of your flat. 1-room flats cost from €349, 2-room flats from €589, 3-room flats from €905 and 4-room flats from €1,269. For houses and villas we draw up an individual quote, as every move of this kind is unique. Additional kilometres on long-distance moves are charged from €4.10/km. It is best to arrange a free survey straight away.
What determines the price for Tilburg
The most important factors are volume, distance (from €4.10/km), floor and a possible lack of a lift. A parking restriction zone can also mean extra work. If you book furniture assembly or a shared load, you should factor this in as well.

From Berlin to Brabant
We come from Berlin-Moabit and bring your belongings to their destination within Germany and abroad. The locations overview shows destinations with their own page, and long-distance moves gives all the details on long routes.
Registering in Tilburg: moving from abroad and reporting a move
According to the Gemeente Tilburg, anyone moving to Tilburg from abroad must register in person as soon as possible after arrival if they will stay for at least four months within the next six months. You book the appointment online and submit the completed "Vestigen in Nederland" questionnaire. Partners and children each fill in their own questionnaire and come along.
For each person you should bring a valid travel document, the questionnaire and a tenancy or purchase agreement. If you live with a main occupant, you need their signed consent and a copy of their ID. Foreign certificates such as birth or marriage certificates should be originals and no more than six months old. The municipality accepts documents in English, German and French without a sworn translation; depending on the issuing country, legalisation may be required. Non-EU citizens must first register with the IND. Registration in the BRP gives you your BSN.
- Moving from another Dutch municipality: online with DigiD via the "Verhuizen" form, within 5 days after or no more than 4 weeks before the move.
- Processing takes up to four weeks; the old municipality forwards the address automatically.
- At the counter, you report by appointment via 14 013, with a copy of your ID and your tenancy or purchase agreement.
The route from Germany is described in the long-distance moving guide for Tilburg, and the formalities in the moving checklist for the Netherlands.
Living in Tilburg: Reeshof, flat hunting and parking
The Municipality of Tilburg lists Reeshof as a separate area in its area development, alongside the Binnenstad, Noord, West and Zuid. The municipality says nothing on the pages we checked about types of housing or amenities in Reeshof; ask about them during viewings. For your search, the municipality names the Woning In Zicht platform, where registration is not free of charge. The four housing associations are TBV Wonen, Tiwos, WonenBreburg and Woonzorg Nederland.
In some parts of Groenewoud, renting a flat or room requires a housing permit. Since 1 July 2023, the Wet Goed Verhuurderschap has limited the deposit to a maximum of two months' basic rent; letting agents may not charge tenants fees. The Huurteam Tilburg offers advice, and you can reach Toegang Tilburg on 013 2061640.
- Parking in the centre: there are 8 municipal car parks; in the centre a day ticket costs €25.
- Residents' parking: in and around the centre, you apply for a permit via the Digitaal Parkeerloket P1, and there may be a waiting list.
- Driving in the centre: outside the morning hours you need a traffic exemption (verkeersontheffing).
For the region, see Living in ’s-Hertogenbosch and Living in Turnhout; costs and districts are explained in the Tilburg guide.
