From Berlin to Tilburg: route deadlines and process

The drive to Tilburg
Via the A2 and Venlo to Tilburg: how the journey works
Route, papers, deadlines
A move to Tilburg is a move abroad within the EU: there is no customs declaration for your household goods, but there are deadlines on both sides of the border. From our address on Stromstraße it is 684 kilometres according to OpenStreetMap routing – almost the whole way on the A2 via Hanover to the Ruhr area, then via the A40 to the border at Venlo, on the A67 past Eindhoven and via the A58 to Tilburg. This makes it easy to split loading, driving and unloading over two days.
For a lorry, 684 kilometres means a good nine hours of pure driving time – just over the standard daily driving time of nine hours. Doing it in one day is only possible with extended driving time, which is permitted twice a week; we therefore usually load the day before. We draw up the inventory list with you for insurance purposes and as an overview. We quote the fixed price after the survey, and liability is under the German Commercial Code (HGB). More under private move and long-distance moves.

How we plan the route to Tilburg
Driving time, loading window, zone
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit) and carry out moves throughout Germany and abroad, including to the Netherlands. For Tilburg we schedule the journey so that the driving times fit and check the rules at the destination in advance: since 2025 a zero-emission zone (Zero-Emissiezone) has applied between the ring roads, vehicles over 6 metres long may not park at the roadside, and the pedestrian zone is only open for loading in the morning. We provide a personal contact person and packing materials; you keep track of your appointments with the municipality. Further destinations under service areas.

Questions about the journey to Tilburg
No customs, but deadlines: papers for Tilburg
The Netherlands and Germany are both EU member states, so there is no customs declaration for your removal goods when moving to Tilburg; the customs exemption with Form 0350 only concerns moves from non-EU countries. An inventory list is still useful, as an overview for you and for insurance. The registration deadlines are important: in Berlin you deregister no earlier than seven days before and no later than 14 days after moving out.
In Tilburg, for a stay of more than four months, you register in the BRP population register within five days of arrival. The Gemeente requires an appointment booked online, the questionnaire "Vestigen in Nederland" (settling in the Netherlands) and original certificates; you then receive the BSN.
The route: A2, Ruhr area, Venlo, A58
From Stromstraße the route runs via the Berlin ring road onto the A2 and along it for around 470 kilometres via Magdeburg and Hanover to the Ruhr area. Via the A42 and A40 it continues to the border at Venlo, on the Dutch A67 past Eindhoven and via the A58 to Tilburg – 684 kilometres in total.
For a lorry that is a good nine hours of pure driving time plus a mandatory break. Because the standard driving time is nine hours, we usually load in Berlin the day before and unload in Tilburg on the driving day. At the destination we observe the zero-emission zone between the ring roads, the loading window in the Binnenstad from 6 to 11 and the parking ban for vehicles over 6 metres.

We carry out moves to Tilburg as well as back to Berlin. Our guide to Tilburg explains living and everyday life; further destinations under service areas and long-distance moves.
Tilburg: registration, questionnaire and papers after arrival
Within the EU, a move is mainly about registration obligations. According to zoll.de, the customs exemption for removal goods (Form 0350) concerns moves from non-EU countries into the EU. In Berlin, according to the ServicePortal, you deregister no earlier than seven days before and no later than 14 days after moving out, free of charge.
In the Netherlands, for a stay of more than four months, you must, according to rijksoverheid.nl, register in the population register (BRP) within five days of arrival. The municipality of Tilburg requires you to appear in person as soon as possible. You book the appointment online and attach the completed questionnaire "Vestigen in Nederland"; registration is not possible without the right papers. Partners and children come along.
- a valid travel document showing nationality for each person,
- a tenancy or purchase agreement; anyone moving in with someone presents the main occupant's consent together with a copy of their ID,
- original certificates from abroad (birth, marriage, divorce certificate), no more than six months old; without a sworn translation the city only accepts English, German and French.
Everyone registered in the BRP receives a citizen service number (BSN). According to nederlandwereldwijd.nl, Dutch basic health insurance is required in many cases within four months of arrival. The guide for newcomers to Tilburg goes into everyday life and housing in more depth.
Tilburg: zero-emission zone, vehicle length and the Binnenstad
Three Tilburg rules are important for removal lorries. First, the zero-emission zone: according to the city, it has applied between the ring roads since 1 January 2025. Only lorries built in 2017 or later and vans of at least emission class 5 may enter; from 2030 only zero-emission vehicles will be allowed. For removal vehicles, the RDW vehicle registration authority offers an exemption for 100 euros: the vehicle may be no more than 13 years old, the exemption applies in all zone municipalities until 1 January 2030 at the latest, and processing takes up to eight weeks.
Second, vehicle length: according to the city of Tilburg, parking vehicles over 6.00 m long or 2.40 m high is prohibited; the only exception is for emergency services on standby. We therefore plan with loading times rather than parking the lorry for a longer period and agree access and position with you in advance.
Third, the pedestrian zone in the Binnenstad: it may be entered daily from 6 to 11 for loading and unloading, with vehicles up to 8 tonnes and/or 11 m long. Moves should also take place within this window. For routes and costs from Berlin, read the guide to Tilburg; we describe another Dutch city under long-distance move to Utrecht.
