Emigrating to the Czech Republic: Moving Checklist

Moving to the Czech Republic
Emigrating to the Czech Republic: transport, registration, vignette
Czech Republic checklist
From Berlin, a move to the Czech Republic is a manageable route: via the A13 to Dresden, on the A17 to the border and on along the D8 to Prague. As an EU member, the Czech Republic requires no customs papers for your household goods; there are no border checks on removal goods. The formalities lie at the destination: anyone staying for longer than 30 days reports their place of residence to the foreign police within 30 days, unless the landlord or accommodation provider does this. We plan your long-distance move to Prague, Brno or Pilsen down to the last detail.
From the first survey through packing to delivery in your new Czech flat, we accompany you through the entire process. After the survey we give you a fixed price; we are liable for your belongings under the statutory rules (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive right to your new address. You can find more information about our services under private move.

From
planning to assembly
An international move raises many questions: do I need customs papers for furniture? No, not within the EU. Where do I register my place of residence in the Czech Republic? As an EU citizen, with the foreign police, within 30 days. And what applies to the car and on the motorway? The electronic vignette, and later Czech registration. In this guide and in our consultation we answer these questions about your long-distance move, so that you start well prepared.

Frequently asked questions about moving to the Czech Republic
Customs and formalities when moving to the Czech Republic
As an EU citizen you move to the Czech Republic without customs formalities: there is no customs declaration and no check of goods at the border for furniture and personal belongings. An inventory list is still worthwhile, for insurance and unpacking. Pets need an EU pet passport, a microchip and a valid rabies vaccination. Anyone staying for longer than 30 days reports their place of residence to the foreign police within 30 days of entry, unless the accommodation provider does this.
If you stay for longer than three months, you can apply for a certificate of temporary residence; for EU citizens it is voluntary, but often helpful in everyday life. If you are employed in the Czech Republic, your employer insures you with a Czech health insurance fund. For car journeys, the electronic vignette applies on motorways. That way you won't miss any deadline on your international move.
Costs and process of your move to the Czech Republic
The costs of a move to the Czech Republic depend on several factors: distance, moving volume, any additional services you want such as a packing service or furniture assembly, and the accessibility of the start and destination addresses. After a free survey you receive a fixed price – a binding quote with no hidden extra costs. That way you keep full control of the costs of your emigration move from the start.
The process usually looks like this: first a detailed consultation and survey, then professional packing of your household goods, transport across the border and delivery and assembly in your new flat. For longer distances we recommend our long-distance moves services, which are specially tailored to international routes.
