Living in Reutlingen
Getting to know Reutlingen: neighbourhoods, offices, everyday life
Living on the Echaz
A move to Reutlingen takes you to the foot of the Swabian Jura (Schwäbische Alb), below the town's local mountain, the Achalm. In the Altstadt around the Marienkirche you will find narrow lanes and cobblestones; in large estates such as Orschel-Hagen it is lifts and walking distances that matter. We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive the 676 km via the A9, A6, A81 and A8 – with the mandatory rest periods, a journey spread over two days. We apply to the city for the parking restriction, and the signs are up 72 hours beforehand. You can find more about our service for private households under Home move.
Whether you are starting your studies at Reutlingen University (Hochschule Reutlingen), taking a new job at Bosch or moving down from northern Germany – after the survey we quote a fixed price and are liable for your belongings under the HGB. Our fitters dismantle and reassemble beds, wardrobes and kitchens. Interim storage is also possible if your flat in Betzingen or Mittelstadt is not yet free. The route is described on our page Long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions about living in Reutlingen
Reutlingen's districts at a glance
Reutlingen is divided into numerous districts, each with its own character. The Altstadt delights with half-timbered houses, the Marienkirche and short distances to cafés and shops – ideal for anyone who appreciates urban life. Betzingen and Orschel-Hagen offer more affordable housing and are popular with families, while Mittelstadt and Rommelsbach are more rural and promise peace and quiet on the edge of the Swabian Jura.
If you prefer something even more village-like, you will find charming detached and semi-detached houses in Gönningen, known for its seed-trading tradition and its tulip blossom, or in Oferdingen. The B27 connects the city quickly with Tübingen and Stuttgart. Whichever district you choose, we organise your move to suit its location and type of buildings.
Housing market & rents in Reutlingen
The housing market in Reutlingen is tight but still affordable compared with nearby Stuttgart. The most sought-after areas are the Altstadt and locations close to the university; new builds usually cost more but offer modern fittings and often a parking space. Guide values are given in the city's rent index (Mietspiegel).
Because of its proximity to Stuttgart and Tübingen, many commuters move to Reutlingen, which further increases demand. If you are flexible about the district and also consider outlying areas such as Degerschlacht or Sondelfingen, you will often find a suitable flat more quickly. Our team will be happy to advise you on which district suits your budget and lifestyle.
Prices for a move to Reutlingen
The cost of your move depends on the size of your home: we move a 1-room flat from as little as €344, a 2-room flat from €599, a 3-room flat from €889 and a 4-room flat from €1,324. For houses and villas we prepare an individual quote. For long-distance moves a per-kilometre rate from €4.15/km applies. Arrange your free survey today.
How the price for Reutlingen is calculated
Your moving price is based on the volume of belongings, the kilometres driven (from €4.15/km; from Berlin-Moabit it is 676 km), the floor and whether a lift can be used. A parking restriction zone is often added in the Altstadt, and on such a long route an overnight stay as well. We are happy to add furniture assembly or a part load.

Parking restriction for your move in Reutlingen: road traffic authority, application and 72 hours
In Reutlingen, too, you can apply for a no-stopping zone for the duration of the move so that you can load and unload in front of the old and the new building. The statewide service description in the Baden-Württemberg service portal sets out the rules that apply to municipalities in the state. Accordingly, the responsible body is the local road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde – the city administration or the district office); in Reutlingen you can ask the city administration, Marktplatz 22, 72764 Reutlingen, for the form and the contact person.
Important for your planning:
- The no-stopping signs must be up at least 72 hours (three days) before the moving date.
- No special documents are required; the application can be made informally.
- You should state your name, old and new address, telephone number, date and time period, the exact location and the length of the zone, which usually depends on the removal vehicle.
- The fee varies from city to city. The service portal does not state the amount for Reutlingen, so ask the city.
The signs may be put up by the authority's road maintenance service or by an approved company, for example a removal company. The legal basis is § 45 StVO; an objection can be lodged against a refusal. It is best to clarify the stopping position and the length of the zone with the city in advance so that your removal van can stop right outside the front door. How we prepare the application for you is explained under Parking restriction zone; the steps are explained in the guide Applying for a parking restriction zone.
Registering your address in Reutlingen: citizens' office in the town hall, Orschel-Hagen branch and video chat
In Reutlingen you register within 2 weeks of moving into your new home; according to the city, registering before moving in is not possible. You can do this at the citizens' office (Bürgeramt) in the town hall (Marktplatz 22, 72764 Reutlingen), at the Orschel-Hagen branch office or at the district offices. An appointment arranged in advance is required, which you book online. Alternatively, the city offers registration by video chat via its Virtual Office (Virtuelles Amt). Registration is free of charge. Schedule it for the first few days after moving in so that the deadline does not get tight.
You should bring:
- at least one proof of identity, usually an ID card and/or passport
- the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung)
- for children without a child passport, the birth certificate
- a power of attorney if someone else registers on your behalf
The city-centre citizens' office lists its opening hours as Mondays and Tuesdays 8 am to 12:30 pm, Wednesdays 8 am to 12:30 pm and 2 to 4 pm, Thursdays 8 am to 12:30 pm and 2 to 6 pm, and Fridays 8 am to 1 pm; you can reach it by phone on 07121/303-5577. For bulky waste, booking is handled by the Technische Betriebsdienste Reutlingen (TBR) via the online bulky waste application. Further cost factors and district tips for newcomers are gathered on the page Removal company Reutlingen; for moves from the Stuttgart region, Removal company Stuttgart also helps.
