Neumünster guide
Neumünster: rail hub and residential town in Holstein
Areas, offices, daily life
Neumünster lies on the A7, at the junction of the B 205 and B 430, and is a railway hub on the Hamburg–Kiel and Hamburg–Flensburg lines. With around 80,000 inhabitants, it is the fifth-largest city in Schleswig-Holstein. Anyone planning a move to Neumünster can choose between nine districts, from Einfeld to Gadeland. We are based in Berlin, which is around 325 km away via the A24 and A21 – we plan the day with a realistic time window.
Whether it is a flat in the city centre or a family house in Tungendorf – we take care of your private move at a fixed price after a survey. Details of the scope of services can be found under Private move. We also plan business relocations to commercial areas such as the industrial estate am Stover. Call us on 01625978461 – the quote is free of obligation.

Neumünster
for newcomers
A move involves a number of tasks: registering at the citizens' office (Bürgerbüro) on Kuhberg, a no-parking zone via the special use permit, bulky waste with the TBZ and choosing the right district. Commuters to Hamburg or Kiel should look at proximity to the main station, drivers at access to the A7. We are also happy to advise you on long-distance moves if you are coming from further away, and we plan boxes, furniture assembly and special items as well.

Frequently asked questions about living in Neumünster
The nine districts of Neumünster
Neumünster is divided into nine districts: Stadtmitte, Böcklersiedlung-Bugenhagen, Brachenfeld-Ruthenberg, Einfeld, Faldera, Gadeland, Gartenstadt, Tungendorf and Wittorf. The city centre around the Großflecken offers short distances to shops, the citizens' office and the main station. Einfeld is the northernmost district and lies on the Einfelder See lake.
If you want to live centrally, you will mostly find blocks of flats in the city centre, while the outer districts have more detached houses. When choosing, it is worth looking at your commute, schools and the bus connections of the Stadtwerke. We plan the vehicle and team to suit the access in each district.
Work, shopping and leisure in Neumünster
Neumünster has been part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region since 2012. Major employers include the Friedrich-Ebert-Krankenhaus, Sparkasse Südholstein, Edeka Nord, Oerlikon Neumag, Danfoss Power Solutions, the Stadtwerke, as well as Deutsche Post's freight mail centre and the DB repair works. The Designer Outlet Neumünster has around 120 shops, the Holsten-Galerie in the city centre around 90. There is no university; since 2023 the HAW Kiel has offered a dual nursing degree programme at the Friedrich-Ebert-Krankenhaus.
For leisure there is the Tierpark Neumünster zoo (24 hectares, around 700 animals, including polar bears), the Einfelder See and the Vicelin circular trail. Hamburg and Kiel can be reached directly by train, and ICE and IC trains also stop at the main station. This mix makes the city attractive for commuters.
Moving prices by flat size
Moving costs do not have to be complicated. Our prices are clearly tiered: 1-room flat from €339, 2-room flat from €605, 3-room flat from €894 and 4-room flat from €1,329. If you live in a house or a villa, you receive an individual quote. For long-distance moves, a rate from €4.10/km applies. It is best to get advice during a free survey.
What the price in Neumünster depends on
The size and volume of your household goods largely determine the price, as does the distance (from €4.10/km). The floor, the lift and organising a parking restriction zone also play an important role. For further services we recommend furniture assembly and a part load.

No-parking zone in Neumünster: special use permit for your move
In Neumünster, a moving-day no-parking zone is arranged via the special use permit (Sondernutzungserlaubnis). On its road traffic page, the city explicitly lists "no-parking zone (e.g. for moves)" under this item. The responsible office is the road traffic department, Plöner Straße 27, 24534 Neumünster (City-Parkhaus, 2nd floor). You can reach the department on 04321 942-3002. According to the city, the following hours apply, in each case by telephone appointment only:
- Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 am to 12 noon
- additionally on Thursdays from 2:30 to 5:30 pm
- closed on Wednesdays
The application form for the special use permit is available as a PDF on the city's website. The city does not state an application deadline for moving-day no-parking zones there; the 14-day deadline on that page applies to traffic control measures at roadworks. The fees are based on the city's fee regulations (number 2.2.2 in the local bylaws); no amounts are given on the page. So call early so that the signs are in place in time, and have the street, date and house numbers ready.
You can reach the city administration in general at Großflecken 59, 24534 Neumünster, on 04321 942-0 or at [email protected]. The city handles parking concessions, for example for tradespeople and care services, as a separate application. If you would like to commission us with the no-parking zone, our page on the parking restriction zone has the details. More about moves to the city: Moves to Neumünster.
Registering at the Neumünster citizens' office and bulky waste via the TBZ
The citizens' office (Bürgerbüro, Kuhberg 18, 24534 Neumünster, phone 04321 942-2600) handles registrations, deregistrations and changes of address as well as the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). You can book appointments online at termin.neumuenster.de. According to the city, the next available appointments are released there every week early on Monday. Without a booking, there are only a few free slots with longer waiting times on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; on Fridays, walk-in visits are only possible for identity documents. Opening hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 am to 12 noon, and Thursdays from 8 am to 12 noon and from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. Under § 17 BMG (Federal Registration Act), you must register within two weeks of moving in.
Bulky waste: the Technisches Betriebszentrum (TBZ) collects bulky waste. You can book a collection on 04321 942-2900, by email to [email protected] or in the city's waste portal. According to the city, every household is entitled to one free collection of up to 30 items every six months. According to the city's website, an additional collection costs 61 euros. Put the items out no earlier than the evening before and no later than 7 am on the collection day, without obstructing pedestrians or traffic. Put electrical appliances, metal and wood out separately.
