Moving to Lübeck: costs process & districts

From Berlin to Lübeck
Moving to Lübeck – from the old-town island to the Baltic
Guide
A move to Lübeck takes you to the second-largest city in Schleswig-Holstein: around 220,000 people live here on the Trave and the Baltic. The old town lies on an island between the Stadt-Trave and the Kanal-Trave and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 – if you move there, you can only reach the quarter via bridges. We plan your home move or company relocation around the parking ban, access and stairwell, at a fixed price after a survey.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 274 km via the Berlin ring road and the A24 to Lübeck; with a break that is about three and a half hours. Whether an older building in St. Gertrud, a residential block in Buntekuh or a house in Travemünde: we clarify floor, lift and parking space in advance. The page Moving Berlin – Lübeck describes the route in detail. For a quote, you can reach us on 01625978461.

Survey, fixed price, fixed date
We calculate your move to Lübeck by volume, floor, access and the roughly 274 km from Berlin – not by hourly rate. After the survey or a video appointment we give you a fixed price, recorded in writing – whether your new address is in St. Jürgen or in Travemünde.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we take care of when you move to Lübeck
Planning from Berlin, arrival in Lübeck
We have no branch in Lübeck; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21). That is why we ask about access, floor and stairwell in advance – whether a flat in St. Jürgen or a house in Travemünde. In Lübeck you apply for the parking ban online with the road traffic authority; according to its own note, the city does not provide traffic signs – we take care of the signs. We give you the fixed price after the survey; we are liable for your household goods under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is possible. You will find places with their own pages under Locations.

Part load: move affordably
For smaller volumes or single items, a part load to Lübeck can be cheaper: your belongings share the load space with other consignments on the same route. In return you need some leeway on the delivery day – handy if only a few items are following on or a flatshare room is moving.

Moving
service without compromise
A move to Lübeck raises its own questions: how does the lorry get onto the old-town island, when do you apply online for the parking ban and where do you re-register? This guide introduces the ten districts – from the city centre via St. Jürgen with its university and technical university to Kücknitz, Schlutup and Travemünde. It also covers costs, the route from Berlin and re-registration. That way you are prepared before the first box is packed.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Lübeck
Lübeck's ten districts at a glance
Lübeck is officially divided into ten districts: Innenstadt, St. Jürgen, Moisling, Buntekuh, St. Lorenz-Süd, St. Lorenz-Nord, St. Gertrud, Schlutup, Kücknitz and Travemünde. The Innenstadt on the old-town island is the smallest, and St. Jürgen in the south the largest by area.
St. Gertrud borders the old town to the north and is characterised by villas around the Stadtpark and the Wakenitz. Buntekuh and Moisling are characterised by residential blocks from the 1960s. Travemünde lies around 17 km from the old town at the mouth of the Trave. For the move, the specific address is what counts – our home move service adapts to it.
University, port and the Baltic: who moves to Lübeck
Lübeck has a specialised university with the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), a technical university and a music academy; the university and TH are in St. Jürgen, where a new residential area has also grown up in the Hochschulstadtteil. In St. Lorenz the Drägerwerk shapes the scene, and in Kücknitz and Travemünde the port – the Skandinavienkai is Germany's largest Baltic ferry port. We do not give specific rents; they depend heavily on location and condition.
If you are coming for the start of semester or a new job, fix the moving date early so that the parking ban and re-registration fit into the first two weeks. Lübeck is part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. For long distances from Berlin, you will find everything under Long-distance moves.

Moving to Lübeck: applying online for a parking restriction zone
The Hanseatic City of Lübeck offers an online application for parking restriction zones, provided by the road traffic authority. One-off or occasional applicants use the standard form, while regular applicants with at least five applications per quarter use a login portal. In the form you enter your details and, for moves, always the new address. Up to three streets can be given per application, each with house number, period from–to, daily time and the maximum length of the area, selectable as 15, 20, 25 or 30 metres.
Optionally you can state reasons, longer periods or a restriction to Monday to Friday. Before submitting, you confirm that you have read the notes on setting up and fees. The city also points out there that it cannot provide traffic signs. On the road traffic authority's page "Umziehen – leichter gemacht" (moving made easier) you will find the notes on the procedure and access to the form.
- Choose the exact length: allow for the lorry's length plus room to manoeuvre.
- Plan the period generously: loading and unloading can take longer than expected.
- Enter the new address: the form explicitly requires this for moves.
Deadlines and fees are set out in the city's notes, which can be reached via the form. Check them before submitting. Our page on the parking restriction zone shows how we organise the loading area.
Lübeck: re-registration, the old town and Travemünde when moving
After moving in, you register with the city. The Hanseatic City of Lübeck offers online re-registration using the online ID function of your identity card or an eID card. You check the stored data, enter the new address, receive a code by post at the new address and then download the confirmation. According to the city, moves must be reported within 14 days. Spouses and minor children can also be registered this way. If you would rather come in person, use the citizens' service offices or the city's online appointment booking; the public authority number is (0451) 115.
For buildings in the old town and in Travemünde, a practical rule applies regardless of registration: clarify access, carrying distances and stopping options before moving day.
- Old town: note the stair width, floors and lift. Older houses may have narrow stairs and turns, which we take into account in the planning.
- Travemünde: check parking options and access for a large vehicle, especially in densely built-up streets.
- Parking rules: the city publishes parking rules on its website, which you should look through before moving day to avoid unnecessary warnings.
What we offer for moves within Lübeck is set out under Removal company Lübeck, and notes on long distances on the page about the long-distance move.
