Moving to Klagenfurt am Wörthersee: costs & process

From Berlin to Klagenfurt
Moving to Klagenfurt: the state capital on Lake Wörthersee
Planning from Berlin
A move to Klagenfurt am Wörthersee takes you to the state capital of Carinthia, the largest city in the state and the sixth largest in Austria. The city lies in the Klagenfurt Basin; the Lend Canal, built in the 16th century, still connects the centre with Lake Wörthersee today. Its emblem is the Lindwurm, a dragon from the city's founding legend, which appears in the coat of arms and as the Lindwurm Fountain. Klagenfurt is divided into 15 municipal districts – from the Innere Stadt (inner city) to Viktring and Wölfnitz. For your private move we clarify access and parking in advance.
The route is easy to plan: around 934 km via the A9, A8 and the Tauern motorway, about 14 hours by lorry including breaks. We load in Berlin, drive to Klagenfurt and reassemble there – usually over two days, depending on the volume. As Austria is part of the EU, there are no customs formalities for your household goods; on the way, the distance-based GO toll for vehicles over 3.5 t applies to the lorry. You receive the fixed price after the survey; background on the route can be found under Moving Berlin – Klagenfurt am Wörthersee.

Moving to Klagenfurt: arrange a survey
934 km, one contact person, one fixed price
For your move to Klagenfurt, one call to 01625978461 is enough: we survey your home by video or on site, ask about the floor and access at the destination and calculate the 934 km route. You then receive a written fixed price, in which the parking restriction, assembly or storage are listed as separate items.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How your move to Klagenfurt works with us
934 km, one team, one fixed price
Our team sets off from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin – we have no base in Klagenfurt itself. That is why we plan all the more carefully beforehand: floor, lift, walking route and parking space, for example for a period building in the Innere Stadt or a house in Viktring. According to the City of Klagenfurt, a fee-paying short-stay parking zone applies inside and along the Ring – we clarify a parking space for the loading time with the city administration (Magistrat) in advance. After the survey you receive a fixed price; liability for your belongings is governed by § 451e HGB (€620 per cubic metre). Details on our private move service can be found here.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Klagenfurt am Wörthersee
The 15 municipal districts of Klagenfurt
Klagenfurt is divided into 15 municipal districts. Districts I to IV form the Innere Stadt (inner city), followed by the suburbs: St. Veiter, Völkermarkter, Viktringer and Villacher Vorstadt. Further out lie Annabichl with the airport, St. Peter, St. Ruprecht, St. Martin, Viktring, Wölfnitz and Hörtendorf. In addition, the city area consists of 25 cadastral municipalities.
The Innere Stadt inside the Ring is densely built up and a fee-paying short-stay parking zone; to the west towards Lake Wörthersee and in the outer districts there are more detached houses. For the move, the specific address is therefore what counts: we clarify the floor, stairwell and parking space during the survey. Our private move service adapts to this.
University, Lindwurm and Lake Wörthersee
Klagenfurt is home to the University of Klagenfurt (Alpen-Adria-Universität), the Gustav Mahler Private University for Music and two campuses of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences; in addition there are the state administration, courts, the ORF regional studio and the airport in Annabichl. We do not quote specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition.
The city centre is connected to Lake Wörthersee by the Lend Canal; the legend of the Lindwurm shapes the coat of arms and the cityscape. For newcomers from Germany: no customs on household goods within the EU, but the Meldezettel must be submitted within three days. More on this in our checklist for Austria.

- Drop-off: at the North and South recycling centres, bulky waste costs 6.00 euros per delivery or per cubic metre or part thereof, according to the city; the city describes this as a normal household quantity that fits in a car or trailer. If you book us from Berlin, you will find the route in the guide to the long-distance move to Klagenfurt.
