Moving to Eisenach: a guide to the Wartburg town
Guide
If you are planning a move to Eisenach, you are moving to a town with more than 800 years of history at the foot of the Wartburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Johann Sebastian Bach was born here, and Opel and Bosch shape the job market. Around the Markt and St George's Church (Georgenkirche) the old town is cramped, with half-timbered houses and little parking space; on the outskirts and in villages such as Stockhausen or Hörschel things are quieter. For your move we clarify access, floor and the parking restriction before the date – and name the right contacts at the town.
We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 358 km on the A9 and, from the Hermsdorfer Kreuz interchange, on the A4 to Eisenach; by lorry that takes about five and a half hours including a break. We quote the fixed price after the survey, including the return trip to Berlin. More on the route: Move Berlin – Eisenach.

A fixed price for your move to Eisenach
Survey, fixed price, fixed date
We quote the fixed price after the survey – so you know before moving day what you will pay. It is based on the size of your home, the distance and any additional services you want. That way you keep track of the costs of your move to Eisenach, whether within the town or from Berlin.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we handle on your move to Eisenach
Planned in Berlin, arriving below the Wartburg
We have no base in Eisenach; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and staircase in advance – whether a half-timbered house in the old town, a flat in the Südstadt or a house in an outlying district. We apply for the parking restriction with the town's road traffic team (Team Straßenverkehr). We quote the fixed price after the survey; we are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is available for valuable items. We coordinate the date with the handover of the flat.

planning to assembly
A move involves many tasks – from registering at the citizens' office in Eisenach to cancelling old contracts. We help with a schedule worked backwards from move-in day and tell you what is due and when. You should also sort out a change of nursery or school early, as well as electricity, waste collection and dog tax, which the citizens' office transfers after you move in. Frequently asked questions about moving to Eisenach
Eisenach's districts: where you will feel at home
The old town around the Markt and St George's Church impresses with half-timbered houses and short distances to the shops – popular with commuters who value being close to the centre. The Südstadt and Nordstadt offer quieter residential areas with good value for money, ideal for families with children.
If you prefer somewhere greener, Stockhausen or the district of Neuenhof have detached houses with gardens and views towards the Thuringian Forest. The villages of Göringen and Madelungen and idyllic Hörschel on the Werra appeal to anyone who wants to combine village tranquillity with a short distance to the town centre.
Housing market, employers and leisure in Eisenach
Housing in Eisenach is cheaper than in many big cities, which makes the town attractive to families and young professionals. Large employers such as the Opel plant (now Stellantis) and Bosch provide numerous industrial jobs, complemented by the Duale Hochschule Gera-Eisenach for work-study degree programmes. Anyone wanting to pursue further academic study can reach the universities in Erfurt and Jena via the A4 or by train.
Quality of life benefits from the proximity of the Wartburg, the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Hainich National Park and numerous hiking and cycling trails in the Thuringian Forest. Lovers of culture and music also appreciate the Bach House, as Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach. This mix of affordable housing, stable employers and high-quality leisure is the main reason why many people deliberately move to Eisenach.
Moving prices explained transparently
Transparency matters to us: we handle your 1-room move from just €349, and a 2-room flat costs from €589. For 3 rooms we charge from €879, for 4 rooms from €1,289. Larger properties such as houses or villas naturally receive an individual quote. For a long-distance move we charge from €4.20 per kilometre. Feel free to use our free survey to get clarity on the exact costs.
How your moving price is made up
Besides the volume of furniture to be transported, the distance plays a major role – here we calculate from €4.20/km. The floor, lift and any parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) are also factored into the calculation. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a part load can be booked as options.

Parking restrictions in Eisenach: the road traffic team at Markt 22
According to eisenach.de, the road traffic team (Team Straßenverkehr) in the infrastructure management department is responsible for parking restrictions for a move in Eisenach. The town's website provides the application form "Ausnahmegenehmigung zum Stellen von Haltverbotszeichen" (exemption permit for putting up no-stopping signs). The forms are available there as PDFs; the page does not describe how to submit them. So it is worth a quick phone call. Have your preferred date, street and house number and the approximate length of the space needed to hand; on request, we determine the length during the free survey.
- Address: Markt 22, 99817 Eisenach
- Phone: 03691 670-821 (road traffic team), town administration switchboard 03691 670 800
- Opening hours: Mon and Tue 9–12 and 1–3 p.m., Wed and Fri 9–12, Thu 9–12 and 1–4 p.m., and by appointment
According to the town, fees are set by the fee regulations (GebOSt, 2019 version); the page gives no specific amounts or lead times. So plan generously and ask the authority about the current position.
We help you with this: during the survey we work out how long the zone for the removal van needs to be and, on request, take care of organising the parking restriction zone. You will find the Eisenach location page under Removal company Eisenach.
Parking, car parks and re-registration in Eisenach: what counts on moving day
Around the Markt you should clarify early where helpers and the removal van will stand. According to eisenach.de, in parking zone 1, the entire town centre, parking charges apply Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Zone 2 covers other areas with parking demand (Mon–Fri 9 a.m.–3 p.m.), zone 3 tourist areas (daily 8 a.m.–7 p.m.).
The town lists two municipal car parks: "Am Markt" (Hinter der Mauer 1, 252 spaces, open daily 0–24) and Sommerstraße/corner of Uferstraße (263 spaces, open 24 hours). We clarify access for your removal van in advance during the survey; for helpers' private cars you can plan the car parks as an alternative.
After moving in, you register at the citizens' office (Fachdienst Bürgerbüro), Markt 22 (ground floor), phone 03691 670-800. The town asks you to book an appointment online if possible. In its list of services, the citizens' office also includes registering, deregistering and transferring energy (EVB), waste (AZV) and dog tax, as well as "Sperrmüllkarten" (bulky waste cards).
What everyday life in the town is like can be read under Living in Eisenach. According to the town, a parking card for both municipal car parks costs 30 euros on first purchase (20 euros credit and a 10-euro deposit). If you want your furniture assembled at the destination, see our move with assembly.
