For pets the EU pet passport applies, and for cars the registration rules of the RDW (Dutch vehicle authority).
According to the gemeente, anyone staying longer than four months registers in person within five days of arrival; you arrange the appointment by phone on 14 0118. Route Berlin – Vlissingen: bridge times, tunnel and lorry rules
Vlissingen lies in Zeeland. In Berlin, the no-parking zone (Halteverbot) in front of your door secures space for the lorry: according to the Berlin ServicePortal, processing by the road traffic authority takes about four weeks on average, and the fee starts at 21 euros. En route, the EU driving times under Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 apply: nine hours of driving per day, ten twice a week, a 45-minute break after four and a half hours, and eleven hours of daily rest. The journey is therefore often spread over more than one day.
In the Netherlands, according to vrachtwagenheffing.nl, lorries over 3,500 kg gross weight pay a distance-based charge, including foreign vehicles. If the route goes through the Westerschelde Tunnel (6.6 km, connecting Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and Zuid-Beveland), vehicles over three metres high pay 18.20 euros (category 3) or 25.00 euros (category 4) per passage according to the operator; roughly every four weeks, night-time maintenance routes traffic through a single tube.
In Vlissingen itself, bridges affect the schedule: according to the municipality, closure periods (bloktijden) under the Province of Zeeland's regulation have applied since 2013 to the Keersluisbrug, Sloebrug, Dokbrug and the swing bridge (Draaibrug) in Oost-Souburg. The municipality does not state the hours; they are on zeeland.nl. Vlissingen does not appear in the list of zero-emission zones on opwegnaarzes.nl. Background in the guide Moving to Vlissingen.
Vlissingen: Boulevard De Ruyter, bulky waste and registration
New access rules have applied since 1 April 2026: on Boulevard De Ruyter, from 1 April to 1 November, a closure applies on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 12 noon to midnight. According to the municipality, residents, business owners, guests and suppliers with a verifiable destination on the boulevard or in Coosje Buskenstraat, among others, may enter; no exemption permit is required for this, but if checked you must be able to state your destination. For the Evertsen and Bankert boulevards, by contrast, the municipality requires an exemption because of camera surveillance.
Old furniture? The municipality collects bulky waste for a fee: in 2026 one cubic metre costs 50.39 euros, with a maximum of two cubic metres per collection; appointments on 14 0118. The items must be on the pavement by 7.30 am. The municipality collects electrical appliances and metal free of charge by appointment; for the Milieustraat (recycling centre) you have needed the Zeeuwse Afvalpas since 1 November 2025.
On registration: according to the municipality, anyone staying more than four months registers in person within five days of arrival. Appointments are given exclusively by phone on 14 0118; bring ID, your tenancy or purchase agreement and original certificates that are not more than one year old. More on this in the guide for newcomers to Vlissingen.
