Emigrating to Poland: Moving Checklist

Moving to Poland
From Berlin to Poland: a move with a plan for PESEL & co.
Poland checklist
For Berliners, a move to Poland starts almost on the doorstep: via the A12 and Frankfurt (Oder) you go straight onto the Polish A2 towards Poznań and Warsaw. Within the EU, household goods need no customs papers – the work lies in the registration obligations and the car. Our team at Beste Umzug Unternehmen accompanies you from the first consultation to the last box in your new home; after the survey we give you a fixed price. Through our private move services you get a plan for your move abroad.
We handle packing, transport and assembly from a single source, so that in Poland you can concentrate on the municipality, PESEL and the vehicle registration office. We are liable for your belongings under the statutory rules (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request. For routes such as a move to Poland, you can find our services under long-distance moves. Contact us by phone on 01625978461 for a free initial consultation.

What we take on for your move to Poland
A short route from Berlin
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) – from here, Poland is one of the shortest routes abroad. For a move to Poland we take care of packing, carrying, transport and assembly; there are no customs formalities within the EU. We give you the fixed price after the survey, and statutory liability applies to your belongings during transport. You handle the paperwork such as zameldowanie, PESEL and car registration yourself – we tell you in advance which deadline starts when. More about our private move service.

Our services at a glance
Valuable items such as furniture, electronics or keepsakes need special protection on the way to Poland. We pack them accordingly; as statutory liability is limited (§ 451e HGB), it is best to take jewellery and documents with you yourself.

Little to move? Part load!
For smaller loads, a shared load is a good option: your belongings travel to Poland together with other transports. This saves costs, for example if you initially live with family or in furnished accommodation and only take some furniture and boxes – with a little flexibility on the delivery day.

From
planning to assembly
Emigrating to Poland involves topics such as residence registration (zameldowanie), the PESEL number, registering as an EU citizen with the voivode (regional governor) and registering your car within 30 days. There is, however, no customs declaration for household goods. We explain step by step which documents you need and how the moving process works. For long routes, our long-distance moves help. That way you keep track of all the organisational and legal aspects of your move.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Poland
Customs and formalities when moving to Poland
As Poland is a member of the European Union, there is no customs declaration for private household goods between Germany and Poland. An inventory list still makes sense – for insurance and for keeping track when unpacking. For the car, what counts is not customs but Polish registration: the application must be submitted to the vehicle registration office no later than 30 days after import, and before that the excise duty (akcyza) must be declared or an exemption proven.
Residence registration (zameldowanie) with the municipality is also important; at the same time you can receive the PESEL number, which Poland also uses as the tax identification number for private individuals. If you stay for longer than three months, you register your stay as an EU citizen with the voivode. That way your move to Poland succeeds without bureaucratic hurdles.
What makes Poland special as a destination
Poland is an obvious destination for many Germans: cities such as Szczecin and Poznań are only a few hours' drive from Berlin, while Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław offer international employers and modern infrastructure. Even so, you should familiarise yourself with the Polish language and how things work at the offices.
Residence registration with the municipality, the PESEL number, registration with the voivode and health insurance via the NFZ are among the most important first steps after arrival. With our moving checklist you keep all deadlines and formalities safely in view.
