Moving to Poland: Process & Tips

From Berlin to Poland
Moving to Poland: via Frankfurt (Oder) to Poznań and Warsaw
Across the Oder to Poland
A move to Poland is particularly short from Berlin: via the A12 and the Frankfurt (Oder)–Świecko border crossing it is around 278 km to Poznań and around 579 km to Warsaw on the A2. As a removal company for long-distance moves, we plan the route, tolls and arrival time in advance. On request we handle the logistics of your move abroad with packing, transport and furniture assembly at the destination. There are no customs within the EU, so you can concentrate on your fresh start in Poland.
We plan your long-distance move to Poland around your time frame: Poznań is easily reached by lorry in one day, one driver's driving time is enough for the journey to Warsaw, and Gdańsk or Kraków take longer. For private moves we offer solutions from a shared load for single pieces of furniture to a complete household move. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21). You can find more about our long-distance moving services under Long-distance moves.

What we clarify before the trip to Poland
Route, tolls, access
Before international moves to Poland we clarify: which route does the lorry take, is one day of driving enough, where will it park in front of the new house, and how will the furniture get inside? Customs regulations play no role within the EU; you register locally yourself after arrival. We are liable for your belongings under the German Commercial Code (HGB), limited to €620 per cubic metre; take valuables with you yourself, and additional insurance is available on request. Places with their own pages can be found under Locations.

Your
move, our craft
A long-distance move abroad has two sides: formalities and transport. Registering your residence (zameldowanie), the PESEL number, registering as an EU citizen and registering your car are explained in our checklist for emigrating to Poland. This guide to the process of a move abroad is about the transport: the route via Frankfurt (Oder), tolls for the lorry, journey time and access at the destination. That way you are ideally prepared for your move to Poland.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Poland
No customs, a short route: the journey to Poland
As Poland is a member of the European Union, there is no customs clearance and no import duty on your private household goods. The lorry drives from Berlin via the A12 to the Frankfurt (Oder)–Świecko border crossing and on along the Polish A2: around 278 km to Poznań and around 579 km to Warsaw. To Wrocław the route goes via Cottbus and the A18 (around 350 km), to Szczecin or Gdańsk via the north. Lorries over 3.5 t pay tolls on Polish motorways and expressways, electronically via e-TOLL on state-run roads and to the operator on the privately run sections of the A2.
One driver can reach Warsaw within the 9-hour driving limit; with loading in Berlin, arriving the next morning can make more sense. You register your residence and your car after arrival; which formalities apply is explained in our checklist for emigrating to Poland.
Costs and process of a long-distance move to Poland
The costs of a move to Poland depend on distance, moving volume, tolls and the additional services you want, such as a packing service or assembly. After a free survey you receive a binding fixed-price quote that lists these items. We calculate routes such as Berlin–Poznań or Berlin–Warsaw individually.
The process begins with a personal consultation and survey, followed by packing and transport. In Poland, on request, we also reassemble the furniture and take the packing materials away again. All details of our range of services can be found under Private move.
