Long-distance move Berlin – Liège: route process & timetable

From Berlin to Liège
Long-distance move to Liège – 686 km to the Meuse
Guide
A move to Liège takes you to the second-largest city in Wallonia: around 196,000 people live where the Ourthe flows into the Meuse, 39 km south-west of Aachen. Because Belgium, like Germany, is part of the EU, there are no customs formalities for your household goods. What matters more is the parking space, the timetable and registering your residence with the city. Under Home move you will find what we take care of for private moves.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 686 km via the A2, the A1 and the A4 to Aachen and on via the E40. By lorry that is about 10.5 hours including breaks – more than one day's driving time, so we plan two drivers or an overnight stop. We give you the fixed price after the survey. We also plan the way back from Liège to Berlin. Enquiries on 01625978461.

Your quote for Liège – after a survey
See first, then calculate
How much your move to Liège costs depends on volume, floor, access and the route of around 686 km. We look at your household goods – at your home in Berlin or by video – and then give you a written fixed price, whether your destination is in Outremeuse or in Cointe.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

Our part in your move to Liège
From Moabit to Liège
We have no branch in Liège; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21). That is why we ask about access, floor and stairwell in advance – whether a flat in Outremeuse or a house in Cointe. We arrange the parking space outside the new address with the City of Liège early on, as the city does not name a dedicated form for parking bans for moves. We are liable for your household goods under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is possible. You will find places with their own pages under Locations.

Common questions
No customs, but deadlines: formalities when moving to Belgium
Belgium is a member of the EU, so your household goods do not have to be declared to customs; an inventory is still useful for your own overview. What matters are the registration obligations: in Berlin you deregister if you are not moving into a new home in Germany – within two weeks of moving out (§ 17 (2) BMG). In Liège, according to the city, you declare the change of residence within eight working days of actually moving in.
For foreign nationals in Liège, the Service des Étrangers is responsible; under EU law you do not need a residence document for the first three months. Your EU driving licence remains valid. A car that is used permanently in Belgium must be registered there – the Belgian vehicle registration office gives the deadlines and documents. If you have questions, you can reach us on 01625978461.
Route, timetable and arrival in Liège
The route runs along the A2 towards the Ruhr, via the Kamener Kreuz interchange onto the A1 and the A4 to Aachen and, after the border, along the E40 to Liège. For lorries over 3.5 tonnes, Viapass charges a kilometre levy in Belgium – in Wallonia on the roads managed by SOFICO. With around 686 km and about 10.5 hours' driving time including breaks, we usually plan two to three days including loading and unloading.
Liège lies in the narrow Meuse valley; quarters such as Outremeuse on the other side of the Meuse or Cointe on the heights south-west of Liège-Guillemins station have very different access. The official language is French. You will find tips on city life in our guide to Liège.
Price transparency from your removal company
Transparent prices – we give you the binding fixed price after the survey. For a 1-room flat you pay from €369, for 2 rooms from €579. A 3-room flat costs from €909, a 4-room flat from €1,324. For houses and villas we always prepare a personal quote because of the individual requirements. If you are moving further, you pay from €4.10 per kilometre for long-distance moves. The best way to find out your individual price is to arrange a free survey.
What do you really pay for a move?
The final price is made up of several components: volume, distance (from €4.10/km), floor and lift, and any parking restriction zone required. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a part load are shown transparently as extras.

Registering in Liège: change of residence, population service and Service des Étrangers
If you move to Liège (Lüttich), according to the city you must declare the change of main residence to the municipal administration "within eight working days" of actually moving in. The deadline starts when you actually move in, and only working days are counted. For information, the city gives the switchboard +32 4 221 81 11, Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 12.30 pm and from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm. Please check with the city in advance which documents you need to bring.
For foreign nationals there is the Service des Étrangers, Potiérue 5, 4000 Liège, telephone +32 42 21 82 29, email [email protected]. An identity card or passport and, if you have one, your residence permit are recommended. Opening hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 1.30 pm to 4.00 pm, and Thursday from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm; queue numbers are issued until 12.15 pm and 3.45 pm respectively, or earlier when it is very busy. The page does not give a deadline for EU citizens. In general, according to "Your Europe": no residence document is needed for the first three months; after that, registration may be required, and national rules differ.
The car must also be registered in the new country after a permanent move; check the deadlines with the national authorities. You can read tips on life in the city in our article Living in Liège.
Bulky waste, parking and the lorry levy in Liège: recyparcs, residents' zones and Viapass
For waste from a move, the City of Liège names three recyparcs run by Intradel: Angleur (Rue de la Belle-Jardinière, 4031 Liège), Glain (Rue Emile Vandervelde, 4000 Liège) and Chênée (Rue du Sart-Moray, 4032 Liège). The electronic identity card (eID) is required. There is an annual allowance of 4 m³ of bulky waste and non-combustible bulky waste, plus 3 m³ of wood, 1 m³ of polystyrene, 5 m³ of inert waste, 13 m³ of garden waste and 5 tyres; per vehicle, a maximum of 1 m³ of all materials per day and recyparc is allowed. Furniture in good condition can be taken to the Ressourcerie du Pays de Liège or to a reuse pilot project at the Angleur recyparc without counting against the allowance. Opening hours are on the Intradel website.
When parking, note the residents' zones: the city has 17 residents' zones; without a valid permit, according to the city, the daily flat rate of 80 euros applies. We did not find a dedicated page on parking bans for moves on the city's website, so ask early on +32 4 221 81 11. For the lorry itself, Belgium has a kilometre levy: Viapass charges it for goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes in the Flemish Region, in Brussels and on the roads managed by SOFICO in Wallonia.
