Long-distance move to Hasselt: 683 km to Flanders

Tips & costs

Unsere Firma starts in Berlin-Moabit and reaches Hasselt after around 683 km via the A2, A1 and A46 and through the Netherlands – lorry driving time about 10.5 hours with breaks.

A move to Hasselt is a long-distance move to another EU country: around 683 km from Berlin via the A2, the A1 and the A46 towards the Netherlands, across the Dutch A2 near Sittard and on along the E314 into Belgium. By lorry, that is about 10.5 hours including breaks – more than a driver's daily driving time, so we plan two days. There is no customs duty on household goods within the EU; in Belgium, however, the Viapass kilometre charge applies to vehicles over 3.5 t. For your international move we clarify this in advance.

We start in Berlin (Stromstraße 21), load on the first day and deliver to Hasselt on the second – in the centre, ideally in the loading window from 7 to 11 am, when, according to the city, the bollards are lowered. We apply to the city for the lorry's parking space as an "Inname openbaar domein" (use of public space). We quote the fixed price after a survey; we also handle the return route from Hasselt to Berlin. More on the route in Long-distance move to Belgium.

FROM BERLIN-MOABIT

Six points for Hasselt

For Hasselt we calculate a fixed price after a survey: route (683 km), volume, floors and additional services are listed separately in the quote.

01

Predictable arrival

With around 10.5 hours of lorry driving, we fix the loading and arrival times in advance so that you can arrange the handover in Hasselt with certainty.
02

Carrying routes known

A flat on the Grote Markt or a house in Stevoort: we ask about the floor, lift and stairs in advance – so there are enough carriers in Hasselt.
03

Parking at the door

We apply for the Inname openbaar domein permit in Hasselt 5 to 10 working days in advance so that the removal van has space in front of your new flat in Hasselt.
04

Deadlines in view

We plan backwards from moving-in day: notice in Berlin, packing dates, registration appointment and the journey timed to the handover in Hasselt.
05

Storage in Berlin

If the flat in Hasselt is not yet free, we store your belongings temporarily in Berlin and deliver on the new date.
06

First evening in your new home

Beds and wardrobes are set up on the day of arrival, the boxes are in the right rooms – and you have time to register with the city in Hasselt.
PART LOAD

Save with a part load

Small move, small price

With a part load to Hasselt, you use free loading space on a journey towards Belgium. This is worthwhile for a room in a shared flat, single pieces of furniture or boxes that follow later. The delivery date is then a time window – in return, the price goes down.

Your
move, our craft

A long-distance move to Hasselt is about more than transport: which route does the lorry take, do you need customs papers, how do you register in Belgium and what happens to the car? This guide sums up the route, tolls and registration obligations and sets out what the city of Hasselt says about the permit for the removal van and access to the centre. You will find all the official procedures in our checklist for Belgium.

Planning safely and calmly

Furniture, boxes, carrying routes

Boxes, furniture, carrying routes: with a packing service and furniture transport we plan even a flat on the Grote Markt in Hasselt so that the lorry stands close to the entrance and large items are measured beforehand.

Costs, timing and special cases

For the costs, what counts is the volume, the floor and the roughly 683 km to Hasselt. Small volumes travel as a part load, and an office move is planned according to a room plan, ideally at the weekend.

FAQ

Common questions

Route, Viapass toll, costs and formalities for Hasselt.
No. Like Germany, Belgium is part of the EU, so there is no customs declaration and no import duty for your household goods. An inventory list is still useful – for yourself and for liability. What you need to do after arrival is set out in our checklist for Belgium.

No customs, but registration and a residence check

Like Germany, Belgium is part of the European Union. For household goods and personal belongings there is therefore no customs declaration and no import duty when moving to Hasselt; an inventory list still helps – for yourself and for liability.

The registration steps are more important: after moving in, you register with the city of Hasselt – official guides give eight working days for this. The police then check during a home visit whether you live there. As an EU citizen you first receive an Annex 19 and later the electronic EU card. A car you bring with you is re-registered in Belgium, with customs registration, a technical inspection and registration with the DIV. In Germany you deregister within two weeks of moving out.

Route via the Netherlands, driving time and Viapass

From our base in Berlin-Moabit it is around 683 km to Hasselt: via the A2 to the Ruhr area, the A1 and the A46 towards Heinsberg, a short stretch through the Netherlands near Sittard and along the E314 into Belgium. For the lorry we allow about 10.5 hours including breaks; this exceeds the daily driving time, so we load on the first day and deliver on the second. We do not give flat-rate average prices – you receive the fixed price after the survey.

In Belgium, Viapass levies a kilometre charge for goods vehicles over 3.5 t. In Hasselt itself, the removal van may only occupy public space with the city's permission; we apply for this 5 to 10 working days in advance, depending on the area.

What will you pay for your move?

The answer depends on the size: 1-room flat from €354, 2-room flat from €584, 3-room flat from €884, 4-room flat from €1,344. Houses and villas always receive an individual quote. For long-distance moves a price per kilometre from €4.15/km applies. It is best to clarify all the details during a free survey.

What affects the moving price?

The price of your move is made up of several factors: the volume of your household, the distance between the old and the new flat (from €4.15/km), and the floor and whether there is a lift. A parking restriction zone, if needed, is also reflected in the costs. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a part load can also change the price.

More destinations from Berlin-Moabit

We plan moves from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) for private and business customers – including to other EU countries such as Belgium. What counts for cross-border moves is explained under International move; long routes can be found under Long-distance moves. We also plan the route from Hasselt back to Berlin with you.

Hasselt: permit for removal vans and parking ban (inname openbaar domein)

If you use the pavement, cycle path, carriageway or parking spaces for a move in Hasselt, according to the city of Hasselt you need a permit for the Inname openbaar domein (use of public space). The city puts up the no-parking signs. You can apply online via Spotbooking or in person at the traffic counter in the 't Scheep city hall, by appointment.

The deadlines according to the city:

  • Application at least five to ten working days in advance; for a reserved parking space at least five working days
  • No-parking signs at least 24 hours in advance in the city centre (including the small ring road), otherwise at least 48 hours
  • Inform neighbours at least seven days in advance

For the application you need the number of square metres required and a site sketch with dimensions. We clarify these details with you during the survey. According to the city, the fee per square metre and day is 2.50 euros inside and on the small ring road, 1.00 euro between the small and the large ring road and 0.50 euros outside the large ring road; putting up signs or barriers costs 25 euros. Reservations are only possible in official parking bays, and in the city centre a length limit of 10 metres applies. Avoid disabled parking spaces, car-sharing and charging spaces, and explain any such need in the application.

Read more about getting there in the Hasselt guide and in our guide to parking restriction zones.

Hasselt: loading and unloading in the city centre and registering after the move

In Hasselt city centre, retractable bollards (Amsterdammers) open access only at certain times. According to the city, loading and unloading in the loading and unloading zones (laad- en loszones) is permitted between 7 and 11 am, when the bollards are lowered. Outside this time, the Inname openbaar domein permit is required, and you then receive a pass for the bollards. According to the city, occupying a zone just for loading without actually loading can result in a GAS administrative fine. We therefore plan loading and unloading within the time window or with the appropriate permit.

After moving in, you must report your move to the city:

  • Deadline according to the city: within eight days of the move
  • Report online or via the MijnHasselt app (processing takes about three days) or at the city hall by appointment
  • The neighbourhood police officer usually checks within two weeks, without an appointment, whether you really live there
  • After approval, have the address on your ID card updated within one month
  • Reporting is free of charge

If you register a month before moving in, you risk rejection if no one is found at home. Everything about everyday life in the city can be found in the living in Hasselt guide.

Always one step ahead.
