New on the Inn: How to Settle In to Kufstein in the First Weeks
The first few weeks
After Innsbruck, Kufstein is the second-largest town in Tyrol and lies on both banks of the Inn right on the border with Bavaria, between its local mountain, the Pendling, and the Kaisergebirge. The town is the seat of the Kufstein district and the place where SPAR Austria was founded. This guide sorts out the first weeks: the registration form (Meldezettel), the registration certificate, districts, town bus, parking and waste. We handle the transport as a home removal with packing and assembly.
We have no branch in Tyrol: we come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and carry out moves to Kufstein and back. Within the EU your household goods need no customs declaration. Your belongings are covered under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³). Route, driving bans and driving time are described on the page Moving Berlin – Kufstein. Where the lorry may stand at the new address is something we clarify with you in advance.

Before Moving Day in Kufstein
Access, parking, delivery day
We come from Berlin and bring your household goods to Kufstein. Before moving day we clarify with you where the lorry can stand in front of the new address – the lanes in the old town are narrow – whether a parking restriction zone is needed and what entrance height an underground car park has. On the route through Bavaria and Tyrol we observe weekend driving bans for lorries. We set the price after the survey (fixed price), and your belongings are covered under the HGB. You submit the registration form at the town office yourself.

Kufstein
for newcomers
New in Kufstein, many questions come up at once: can I register online if I have never been registered in Austria? Do I need a registration certificate as a German? Where do I get a residents' parking card, how does the town's housing allocation work, and who helps with kindergarten and school? We have summarised the municipality of Kufstein's information below. For the move itself we advise you on schedule, parking in the old town and packing so that everything fits on moving-in day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Living in Kufstein
The Districts of Kufstein
Kufstein lies on both banks of the Inn between its local mountain, the Pendling, to the west, the Thierberg to the north and the Kaisergebirge to the east. The centre comprises the old town below the fortress, the area around the station, Fischergries and Kienbichl. The old town is the oldest part of Kufstein; the buildings in the centre mostly have three to six storeys, and there are only a few high-rises on the edge of town.
Around the centre lie the districts of Sparchen with several housing estates, Weissach with Mitterndorf, Endach and Zell with Kleinholz and Morsbach. In Kienbichl and Mitterndorf there are many villas from the Gründerzeit era. Kufstein is considered short of building land; we deliberately do not quote reliable rent figures. Compare offers and, if needed, ask about the town's housing allocation guidelines.
Working, Studying and Commuting Between Tyrol and Bavaria
Kufstein is a town of trade and administration: it is where SPAR Austria was founded, there are many smaller shops and two shopping centres in the centre, and business parks on the edge of town. In addition there are the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, the district hospital and authorities such as the district court and the AMS (Public Employment Service). Industrial companies such as Stihl Tirol and Sandoz are located in neighbouring municipalities.
The Kufstein–Rosenheim–Salzburg economic area is closely interlinked, and many people commute across the border. Kufstein station is a border station between the line to Rosenheim and the Lower Inn Valley Railway to Innsbruck; the town bus runs within the town. By car you reach Kufstein via the Inn Valley motorway A12, which continues in Bavaria as the A93. Hiking in the Kaisergebirge, cycle paths along the Inn and the fortress shape leisure time. We schedule the moving date to match the flat handover.
Moving prices by flat size
With us you always know where you stand: we move a 1-room flat from as little as €365, for 2 rooms costs start at €605, while a 3-room move is possible from €909. If you live in a 4-room flat, you pay from €1,279, and for a house or villa we prepare an individual quote. We also charge fairly for long-distance moves – from just €3.90/km. Arrange a free survey now to find out your personal price.
What determines the moving price
The price of a move depends mainly on the volume of your household goods and the distance, which is charged from €3.90/km. The floor and whether there is a lift also play a role, as does a parking restriction zone if one is needed. Extra services such as furniture assembly or a shared load also affect the total cost.

Registering in Kufstein: Housing and Registration Office at the Town Office
In Kufstein, the housing and registration office (Wohnungs- und Meldeamt) at the town office, Oberer Stadtplatz 17 (room 1.06), 6330 Kufstein, handles registering, deregistering and changing your residence. The town provides the registration form as a PDF. Telephone: +43 5372 602 100, email: [email protected]. The town links to the registration confirmation and registration information as online forms on oesterreich.gv.at, plus a form for the private household confirmation.
- Monday to Wednesday: 8 am to 5 pm
- Thursday and Friday: 8 am to 1 pm
- Thursday afternoon by appointment only
The Kufstein page we checked does not state a registration deadline. The towns of Krems and Hallein give three days after actually moving in for Austria. As a precaution, confirm the deadline for your case with the town office.
According to the portal, online registration via oesterreich.gv.at requires ID Austria or EU Login and that you have already been registered in Austria at some point. So if you come from Germany, the first time you go to the office in person. The town also refers citizens of the EEA and Switzerland to appointment booking for the registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung) at termin.tirol.gv.at.
How customs and paperwork work on entry is explained in the article Moving to Austria: customs, formalities and process. For orientation in Tyrol, Living in Innsbruck also helps.
Everyday Life in Kufstein: Parking, Housing Allocation, Waste Calendar and Childcare
For parking, the town of Kufstein refers to three ordinances (as of 2026): the short-stay zone levy ordinance, the short-stay zone ordinance and the residents', company and employee parking ordinance. Applications are available for a residents' parking card, company parking card and social services; the page does not state the requirements, so ask at the town office. According to the town, the Kufstein Arena car park (Fischergries) charges €0.00 for up to 60 minutes, then €1.00 per hour, with the 24-hour rate capped at €15.00. The underground car park at the Stadtsaal costs €15.00 per night. Entry there is recorded by number plate recognition, and you pay before leaving at the machine, by app or online. Most facilities are open around the clock; the Innotech underground car park has a height limit of 2.20 m, which matters for taller vans.
For housing allocation, the municipality publishes its housing allocation guidelines and a questionnaire. For housing allowance and rent allowance it links to applications from the State of Tyrol.
The town's waste calendar 2026 (select street and house number, also available as a PDF) covers bulky waste, the recycling centre, the waste collection centre and organic waste.
For childcare and schools, the schools and kindergartens office at the town office is responsible (Oberer Stadtplatz 17, 1st floor, room 1.09, telephone +43 5372 602-122). The page we checked does not state deadlines, so families should ask early. How to bring your household goods across the border is covered in the long-distance moving overview.
