Long-distance move Berlin – Kufstein: route process & deadlines

From Berlin to the Inn valley
Long-distance move to Kufstein: driving bans, border, Meldezettel
Guide
After Innsbruck, Kufstein is the second-largest town in Tyrol and lies right on the border with Bavaria, on both banks of the Inn. There is no customs duty on your household goods – Germany and Austria are both in the EU. The main things to plan are the long route with the Austrian lorry driving bans, possible block clearance (Blockabfertigung) at the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border crossing and, after arrival, the registration form (Meldezettel) within three days. For your home move we take care of packing, transport and assembly.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 676 km on the A9 through Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Thuringia and Bavaria, around Munich on the A99, along the A8 to the Inntal junction and via the A93 to the border at Kiefersfelden. By lorry that is about 10.5 hours including breaks – more than one day's driving time, so it is done with two drivers or an overnight stop. We state the fixed price after a survey. More on the route under Moving Berlin – Kufstein.

What we handle for your long-distance move to Kufstein
Planning in Berlin, arrival on the Inn
We have no branch in Tyrol and no local partners; we drive by lorry from Berlin-Moabit right to your door in Kufstein. We match the date to the Austrian lorry driving bans and the Tyrolean driving ban calendar so that the vehicle arrives on a working day. We pack, carry, transport and reassemble; you take care of the Meldezettel yourself. Our liability for your household goods is €620 per cubic metre under § 451e HGB, and additional insurance is available.

What should be clarified before the journey to Kufstein
For Kufstein you need no customs papers and no inventory list for the border. What matters is an arrival day outside the driving ban times, a parking space in front of the building and the Meldezettel – we clarify these with you before moving day.
Arrival planned
Access sorted
No customs within the EU
Registration in view
Storage to bridge a gap
Return trip possible
Part load – the clever solution
For smaller volumes or single items, a part load to Kufstein can be cheaper: your belongings share the load space with other consignments on the route via the A9 and the Inn valley to Tyrol. In return, a time window applies instead of a fixed date; we clarify whether a trip fits when you enquire.

Moving
& transport from one provider
A move to Tyrol involves several topics: the route of around 676 km with driving times and driving bans, possible block clearance at the border, the Meldezettel within three days, the registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung) for a longer stay and the car with German number plates. This guide shows what you handle yourself and what we take care of. There are no customs formalities within the EU. If the scope does not change, the price stays as stated in the quote.

Common questions
Formalities when moving to Austria
As Austria is part of the European Union, there is no customs clearance and there are no border papers for your household goods when moving to Kufstein – whatever your nationality; what matters is that the goods come from an EU country. A simple box list still helps when unloading and in the event of damage. Within three days of moving in you register with the Meldezettel; the town's registration office (Meldeamt) is on Oberer Stadtplatz. If you stay longer than three months, apply for the registration certificate for EU citizens within four months of arrival. If your car is permanently based in Austria, it must be registered there; as a rule, the standard fuel consumption tax (Normverbrauchsabgabe, NoVA) is payable.
Kufstein as a destination: border town on the Inn
Kufstein lies in the Tyrolean Unterland at the mouth of the Inn valley, at an altitude of around 500 m, between its local mountain, the Pendling, to the west and the Kaiser mountains to the east. Its landmark is the fortress above the town. Besides the centre, the municipal area includes districts such as Sparchen, Weissach, Endach and Zell with Morsbach. For the move, access and a parking space are what count: the town centre around the Stadtplatz is cramped, and in the hillside districts it depends on the width of the street. According to the sources named below, the town has no dedicated web page on parking spaces for moves – ask at the town office (Stadtamt) early. If the flat is not yet free, we store your belongings in Berlin in the meantime.

Moving costs in detail: the factors
Volume is the biggest cost driver, followed by distance (from €3.90/km). The floor, lift and any parking restriction zone also affect the final price. If needed, we add a part load or furniture assembly.

Getting to Kufstein: lorry driving bans in Austria and Tyrol
For a long-distance move from Berlin to Kufstein, the schedule matters more than the route, because fixed driving bans apply to heavy lorries in Austria. According to the Republic's business service portal (Unternehmensserviceportal), lorries over 7.5 t may not drive between 10 pm and 5 am every day. The weekend driving ban applies on Saturdays from 3 pm to midnight and on Sundays and public holidays from midnight to 10 pm, including for lorries with trailers if the lorry or trailer weighs more than 3.5 t. Exceptions exist mainly for local supply, and the authorities can also impose additional bans, for example during the peak holiday season.
On motorway sections with three or more lanes, lorries over 7.5 t are also not allowed to use the left-hand lane. Some federal states have fine-dust driving bans for certain emission classes. For Tyrol, the state publishes a 2026 driving ban calendar and a separate page on lorry metering (Lkw-Dosierung); information is provided by the Department of Traffic and Cable Car Law, Valiergasse 1, 6020 Innsbruck, telephone +43 512 508 2452, email [email protected]. We check your date against these rules before departure so that the lorry does not run into a driving ban.
So plan your arrival in Kufstein for a working day. If you are comparing other destinations in Tyrol and Salzburg, you will find tips in our articles on the long-distance move to Innsbruck and the long-distance move to Hallein.
Registering in Kufstein: registration office on Oberer Stadtplatz
The registration office of the town of Kufstein belongs to the Department of Social Affairs and Housing, Civil Status and Registration, and is located at Oberer Stadtplatz 17, 1st floor, 6330 Kufstein. Contact: telephone +43 5372 602, email [email protected]. The town's page provides the Meldezettel form, the private household confirmation (Privathaushaltsbestätigung) and a template for official deregistration under § 8 (2) of the Registration Act (Meldegesetz). The page does not give opening hours, fees or a deadline, so please ask the office directly.
For orientation: the cities of Innsbruck, Linz and Hallein state a deadline of three days after taking up residence for registering a new address in Austria. Hallein and Innsbruck also point out that registration is possible online with ID Austria via oesterreich.gv.at; whether you can also use this for Kufstein is best clarified at the town office. Have your landlord sign the Meldezettel before you start stacking boxes on moving day.
We could not find a dedicated web page from the town on parking spaces for removal vans in Kufstein. Innsbruck and Linz describe an exemption permit under § 45 StVO for no-parking zones and loading zones; in Kufstein, too, ask at the town office early. Our parking restriction zone service helps with planning.
