Heat-sensitive belongings: candles records, medicines, batteries

Packing for a summer move
These things cannot take the heat in a removal van
Sort things properly
A summer move often takes longer than expected, and a cargo space in the sun heats up quickly. For most furniture that is no problem – for some things it is. Candles soften, records warp, creams separate, and aerosol cans carry a warning label for good reason. So pack these items separately and take them with you in your own car. You will find more on the process under our private move.
The easiest option is a separate box labelled "Heat – take yourself". Candles, medicines, cosmetics, chocolate and battery-powered devices go into it. This box does not go into the removal van but travels in the passenger compartment and is unpacked first at the destination. We will quote you the fixed price for everything else after the survey; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), with additional insurance on request.

Have it packed instead of sorting it yourself
Delicate items are packed separately
You would rather not go through every drawer yourself? With our packing service we pack your household goods and set heat-sensitive items aside so that you can take them with you yourself. We quote the fixed price after the survey. Simply call us on 01625978461 for advice with no obligation.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we handle delicate belongings
Sort first, then pack
When packing, we ask what cannot take the heat: medicines, candles, a record collection, wine or battery-powered devices. We pack these items separately and label the boxes so that you can take them in your car yourself. We load everything else so that boxes do not stand directly against the sunny side wall and little time is spent in the warm vehicle. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21), work at a fixed price after a survey and travel nationwide for a private move and a long-distance move.

Six things that do not belong in a hot cargo space
These items suffer particularly in the warmth. Pack them separately in their own clearly labelled box and take them in the car – or at least plan to load them last.
Candles and wax
Vinyl records
Medicines
Cosmetics and perfume
Aerosol cans
Batteries and power banks
Part load: transport delicate items yourself
With a part load (Beiladung) you share the cargo space with other moves in the same direction and save costs. Because the tour has several stops, furniture and boxes are on the road for longer. So it is better to take candles, medicines and batteries with you yourself.

All
about delicate belongings
Besides candles and cosmetics, there are other things that do not cope well with warmth: wine, chocolate, photos in albums or pictures with a delicate surface. The fridge also needs preparation – empty it in good time, defrost the freezer compartment the day before, and after transport follow the instructions in the user manual before switching it back on. For a long-distance move with many hours of driving: delicate items travel in the car, not in the cargo space.

Frequently asked questions on heat-sensitive belongings
Candles, vinyl, cosmetics: what suffers in a warm vehicle
A cargo space that stands in the sun or waits in a traffic jam warms up quickly. For wardrobes and tables this is unproblematic, but not for some things: candles soften and bend, records can warp, lipsticks melt, creams separate and chocolate runs. Wine does not cope well with warmth either.
Sort such items out while packing and collect them in a separate box. Candles lie flat in a tin, and records stand upright and close together in a sturdy box. This box travels in your own car and is unloaded first at the destination. Cover wooden and leather furniture with moving blankets instead of film – whether within the city or on a long-distance move.
Taking medicines, batteries and aerosol cans safely
Medicines that need refrigeration belong in a cool bag. Pack all the medicines you will need in the first few days in a bag that you keep with you. Devices with a lithium-ion battery such as laptops, mobile phones, power banks or cordless screwdrivers also suffer in the heat and are best transported in the passenger compartment.
Aerosol cans usually carry the instruction to protect them from sunlight and not to expose them to temperatures above 50 °C. Pack them upright and not in the hot cargo space. If you would like to hand over the packing, our packing service will take care of the sorting too.
Our moving prices at a glance
What does a move with us cost? Completely transparent: 1-room flat from €354, 2-room flat from €579, 3-room flat from €889, 4-room flat from €1,329. How the price is made up
