Handing Over the Old Flat: Clearance Handover Report and Deposit

Senior moves part 14
Handing over the old flat properly and on time
Empty, clean, done
Once the move is done, the handover comes next: the old flat must be empty, all keys returned and its condition documented. Especially after half a lifetime in the same flat, there is often a lot left that is not coming along – cellar shelves, cupboards, supplies. Planning the flat clearance early means you do not have to commute between two addresses for weeks after moving in. On request, we take care of the clearing and so give relatives time for the fresh start.
What comes along travels with the move; what stays behind we clear in a second step: passing it on to the family, donating it or disposing of it. After that, the flat is ready to be handed over to the landlord. Whether you have to redecorate depends on the tenancy agreement – many clauses are invalid. You can find more about our services under Private move and Household clearance. We quote the fixed price after a survey.

Move and clearance at a fixed price
One quote for both, after a survey
During the free survey we look at what is coming along and what stays in the old flat. You then receive a fixed price for the move and the clearance. Simply call us on 01625978461 or use our online form. We advise you personally so that the flat is empty in time for the handover.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we prepare the handover
Empty by the deadline
We plan the move backwards from the handover date: by when must the flat be empty, what comes along, what gets cleared? Our staff take time over decisions. We are based in Berlin and drive nationwide – destinations with their own page can be found under Locations, long distances under Long-distance moves. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request.

Clear,
hand over, settle up
Part 14 of our series covers the final step of a senior move: returning the old flat. What has to go, who has to redecorate, how does the handover report work and when do you get the deposit back? We also show how the move and the clearance fit together so that you do not pay double rent for long. We are happy to handle the transport itself too, and on request we then also clear the cellar and loft so that nothing is left behind by the deadline.

Questions about handing over the flat
Flat clearance: decide first, then clear
Go through the old flat room by room and divide everything into four groups: comes along, goes to the family, gets sold or donated, gets disposed of. Do not forget the cellar, loft and balcony.
Planning the flat clearance together with the move saves time and double rent. It is easier for relatives if the list is ready beforehand and nothing has to be decided on moving day.
Handover: report and meters
At the handover, record the condition, defects, meter readings and keys in writing and have both sides sign. You can find a template in the handover report sample.
The landlord's claims for damage lapse six months after the flat is returned (§ 548 BGB).
Moving costs by household size
Our pricing tiers are simple: 1-room flat from €365, 2-room flat from €579, 3-room flat from €905, 4-room flat from €1,324. For a house or a villa we are happy to prepare an individual quote. For a long-distance move we charge from €4.20/km. Take advantage of a free survey now.
