Through a summer move with children and pets

Family move in summer
The little ones first: protecting children and animals in the heat
Taking the load off the family
A move in summer is doubly exhausting for children and pets: heat, open doors, strangers in the stairwell and a home dissolving into boxes. Small children and animals regulate their body temperature less well than adults and often notice thirst too late. It is most relaxed if they do not spend the actual moving day in the flat at all – but with grandparents, friends or in holiday childcare. For your private move we plan the time so that you can look after the family.
If children or animals stay at home, set up a cool, quiet room that is cleared last – with water, toys or a basket and a sign on the door. We set up the children's room first in the new flat, so that there is a familiar place in the evening. We quote the fixed price after the survey, and your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB). For a long-distance move we plan the journey with breaks.

Planning a family move in summer
A date that fits childcare and the holidays
Demand for moving companies is high during the summer holidays. Enquire early, and we will set the date so that childcare and pet sitters can be organised. You receive the fixed price after the survey. Call us on 01625978461 and reserve your summer move.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we take the load off families on moving day
Children's room last out, first in
If children or animals live in the household, we discuss during the survey which room is cleared last and where the retreat will be in the new flat. Doors to rooms with pets stay closed so that nobody escapes through the open stairwell. We load quickly so that the flat does not stand open for hours, and we set up children's beds first. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21), work at a fixed price after a survey and travel nationwide – destinations in the locations overview.

Six tips for children and animals in the heat
On moving day, children and pets above all need three things: shade, water and calm. These six tips help you make the hot day bearable for every member of the family – from the baby to the schoolchild, and to the dog, the cat or the rabbit in its cage.
Organise childcare
A cool room to retreat to
Remind them to drink
Never leave them in the car
Protect paws
Keep small animals cool
Not much to move? Part load!
A part load (Beiladung) is a low-cost solution if only a few pieces of furniture are moving. Your belongings travel along on a planned route. Children and pets travel separately in your own car – with breaks, shade and enough water for everyone on board.

Keeping
the family and animals in mind
There is quite a lot to organise around a summer move with the family: who looks after the children on moving day, and who takes care of the dog or cat? It is best to involve children early, for example in packing their own toy box – you will find ideas in the article Involving children. For pets, a quiet room with a carrier, food and water is worthwhile; also remember to change the new address in good time with the vet and, if your animal is microchipped and registered, in the pet register. If a long-distance move is coming up, plan breaks in the shade for children and animals in the car.

Frequently asked questions on children and pets during a summer move
Children on a hot moving day: childcare and shade
Small children overheat faster than adults and often notice thirst late. Ideally they spend moving day with grandparents, friends or in holiday childcare. If they stay at home, set up a shady room that is cleared last, and remind them regularly to drink.
Pack the children's room last and set it up first in the new flat – more on this in the article Children's room last and first.
Dogs, cats, small animals: safely through the hot day
On moving day, pets belong in a quiet, cool room with the door closed, water and a basket – or with friends for the day. Never leave animals in a parked car, because it heats up a lot in the sun very quickly. Take the dog for a walk early in the morning, before the asphalt gets hot.
Cats and small animals travel in a carrier in the shade. You will find more tips in the article Pets on moving day.
