Into halls of residence and out again: rules for moving in and out

Halls instead of a shared flat
Halls of residence have their own rules
Keep to the dates
A room in halls is small, often furnished and subject to rules that do not exist in a shared flat: fixed times for the key handover, house rules for corridors and the lift, an inspection by the management. If you know these dates, you plan your student move around them rather than against them. Because the bed and wardrobe are often provided, usually only a little comes along when you move in – we give you the fixed price after the survey.
Ask the halls management early when you will get your key, whether a goods lift needs to be booked and where the van is allowed to stop. When you move out, the inspection is what counts: the room is compared with the inventory recorded when you moved in. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and handle the transport – find out more about our student move.

A moving date that fits the key handover
Survey, fixed price, fixed date
Tell us the date of your key handover and whether a goods lift is available. Call us on 01625978461: after the survey, we give you a fixed price and schedule the transport so that you are not left standing in front of a locked door with a full van.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we plan a move into halls
Following the house rules, not fighting them
In halls of residence, many residents share corridors, the lift and the access road. That is why we clarify in advance when the goods lift is free, where the van may park and whether the corridor walls need protecting. Furniture provided by the halls stays in the room; we only transport your own things. For transport damage, we are liable under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³). We are based in Berlin-Moabit and rated 5.0 on Google from 119 reviews.

Six points for moving in and out
Every hall of residence has its own rules – you should clarify these six points with the management or take care of them yourself before the move.

Part load for a furnished room
If you are moving into a furnished room in halls in another city, often only boxes, technology and a bicycle come along. For that, a part load is frequently the cheapest solution: your things travel along with other jobs. Make sure that the delivery window falls after your key appointment.

A
move into halls without surprises
This part covers moving into and out of student halls: fixed dates, house rules, the goods lift and the inspection when you move out. If you clarify these points early, you avoid waiting with a full van and arguments about the deposit. The article Handover report template shows how a handover report is structured.

Frequently asked questions about moving into student halls
The ideal moving date: making clever use of the semester holidays
The lecture-free period is the best time to move into halls, because neither exams nor seminars get in the way. However, many people move in and out at the same time at the change of semester – the lift, the access road and moving companies are then in demand. Ask the management whether there are fixed moving-in days and plan the transport accordingly.
Fix your moving date at least four weeks in advance and secure it via our student move. That gives you time before lectures start to settle into your new room and to register within two weeks.
Moving into halls: special rules and checklist
Moving into or out of student halls is often subject to stricter rules than a normal rented flat, such as fixed handover times or rules for the lift. Find out early from the management whether the goods lift needs to be booked and how the inspection works. The deposit is usually only settled after the room inspection.
Photograph walls, floors and built-in furniture when you move in and before you move out, to avoid disputes. If you are moving to another city, you will find information on long distances under long-distance moves.
Moving prices in brief
Small moves start with us from €354 for a 1-room flat. Somewhat larger moves, such as a 2-room flat, cost from €594. A 3-room flat comes to from €899, a 4-room flat from €1,309. If you live in a house or villa, you will receive an individual quote from us. For long-distance moves, a price from €3.85 per kilometre applies. The quickest way is a free survey.
What influences the price
The volume is the biggest cost driver, followed by the distance (from €3.85/km). The floor, the lift and any parking restriction zone also affect the final price. If required, we add a part load or furniture assembly.
