Moving timeline for working people: from giving notice to re-registering

Guide for working people · Part 3
Planning backwards from moving day – week by week
Deadlines in view
Working people have little time, but fixed deadlines: the notice period for the old flat, the application for a parking restriction and re-registration run regardless of your work schedule. If you plan backwards from moving day, you spread the tasks over many short evenings instead of one hectic final week. We take care of the private move itself – survey, packing on request, transport and assembly.
Book the survey early: after it, the fixed price is set and you can apply for your leave bindingly. For a long-distance move because of a new job, we plan the loading and unloading days so that you are settled in before your first working day. You can read what our scope of services includes under private move. Your belongings are covered under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

Plan early, secure your preferred date
Fixed price after a survey, no hidden costs
If you plan early, you have the widest choice of dates – especially at the end of the month and in the school holidays. After the survey you receive a fixed price, whether for a move within Berlin or a long-distance move. Call us on 01625978461.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we take on in your timeline
Survey, parking restriction, moving day
In a moving timeline there are tasks only you can do – giving notice, re-registering, contracts – and tasks you can hand over. We take over the second part: survey and fixed price, the application for the no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) on request, packing, transport and assembly. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21); destinations with their own page can be found under locations.

The timeline in six stages
These stages apply to a move within Germany from a rented flat. For a long-distance move or a move at the end of the month, it is better to allow two more weeks when booking the moving company.

Part load: it pays to enquire early
For small amounts, a part load is a good option: your belongings travel along with other orders on the same route. Because the journey is coordinated with others, the enquiry belongs early in the timeline – especially for long-distance moves.

Deadlines
working people should know
The third part of our series Moving for working people is about the timeline: the notice period for the old flat, booking the moving company, the parking restriction, packing and re-registration. If you enter these stages in your calendar, you spread the effort over many short evenings and only need leave for moving day itself. The order is important: first the notice, then the date with the moving company, then the leave request. Our moving checklist helps you not to forget any step.

Frequently asked questions on the moving timeline
Building the timeline backwards from moving day
A common problem for working people: deadlines run while the job never takes a break. So start from moving day and count backwards. Notice on your old rented flat must reach the landlord by the third working day of a month at the latest so that it takes effect at the end of the month after next (§ 573c BGB). How to give notice correctly is explained in the article Terminating your tenancy.
Enter each stage in your calendar as an appointment with a reminder: survey by the moving company six to eight weeks ahead, parking restriction two to four weeks ahead, packing in the last two weeks. That way you know every Monday what is due that week.
Linking days of leave to the stages
Not every stage needs a day off. The survey, comparing quotes and transferring contracts fit into your evenings; only moving day itself and possibly the handover of the flat need real time off. So only plan your leave once the date with the moving company is fixed.
If the move falls before a weekend or a bridge day, you save leave. You have two weeks after moving in to re-register (§ 17 BMG); in Berlin this is also possible online with BundID and the online ID function – without an appointment during working hours.
