The registration office alongside your job: registration documents, authorisation

Guide for working people · Part 13
Register within 14 days – even with a full diary
Dealing with the authorities alongside your job
After the move, a deadline starts: within two weeks of moving in you must register with the registration authority (§ 17 BMG, Federal Registration Act). For working people this is often the most difficult appointment, because registration offices (Bürgerämter) are mainly open during the day. If you book the appointment as soon as your moving-in date is fixed, you will find an early-morning slot more easily. Our team at Beste Umzug Unternehmen takes care of the transport, so you have time left for this errand.
The most important document is the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) – a tenancy agreement does not replace it. Ask for it directly at the key handover. For the transport itself, under private move we offer dismantling, carrying and assembly at a fixed price after a survey. Your belongings are covered under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request.

Set moving day, then book the appointment at the office
Fixed date, clear deadline
Call us on 01625978461. After the survey, the date and the fixed price are set – and with them your moving-in date. The 14 days for registration run from that date, and you can book the registration office appointment specifically around your working hours.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

We carry, you register
A clear division of tasks on moving day
Nobody can take the trip to the registration office off your hands completely – but the transport, yes. If we dismantle, carry and reassemble the furniture, you have time for the registration and the landlord confirmation. We set the moving date after the survey and give you the fixed price in advance. Your belongings are covered under the HGB. We are based in Berlin-Moabit; destinations with their own page can be found under our locations.

Dealing
with the authorities alongside your job
The thirteenth part of our series Moving for working people is about the trip to the registration office: deadline, documents, booking an appointment and authorisation. In Berlin, registration is free of charge and, under certain conditions, also possible online; if you go in person, you need an appointment. If you move to another city for a new job, the same 14 days apply – read more about the route under long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions on registration and dealing with the authorities
Fitting the registration office appointment around work
The 14 days for registration begin when you move in. So book the appointment as soon as moving day is fixed, and look specifically for early slots before work starts. In Berlin, registration is free of charge; in person it is only possible with an appointment.
With a BundID account and the online ID function, registration in Berlin is also possible online. Which deadlines apply when is explained in the article Re-registering after the move.
Preparing documents and authorisation
To register in person you need a valid ID card or passport, the registration form and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). The tenancy agreement does not replace it. If you keep another home, a supplementary sheet on your main residence is added.
If you cannot manage an appointment, in Berlin another person can go for you with a written authorisation; you sign the form yourself. That way your working day stays unaffected.
