PLANNING FROM DAY ONE

Planning in the shared flat

One timetable for everyone – so the shared-flat move does not fail over dates

Step by step

Unsere Firma Timetable for the shared-flat move: notice, flat meeting, furniture list, transport and re-registration in the right order.

A shared-flat move involves more people than a single person's move: every flatmate has their own deadlines, exams or working hours. The first fixed date is usually the notice: as a tenant, you give notice no later than the third working day of a month, effective at the end of the month after next (§ 573c BGB). Plan backwards from this date. Once moving day is set, we survey the flat and then give you a fixed price – so all flatmates know the total before it is split.

Often it is not the whole shared flat that moves, but only part of it – with furniture that stays behind and boxes that go to different addresses. You can read how we move individual rooms or whole flats under Private move. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per m³ of loading space), and additional insurance is available on request. Call us on 01625978461 if you would like to arrange a date.

Set the shared flat's moving date early

Survey, fixed price, fixed date

The sooner moving day is fixed, the easier it is to align every flatmate's notice, holidays and exams with it. We survey the shared flat, then give you the fixed price and reserve the date – whether everyone moves in, moves out or only one person leaves. Call us on 01625978461.

What we take on in the shared flat's timetable

You plan, we carry

In a shared flat's timetable, transport is just one item – but one that everything else depends on. After the survey, the fixed price is set and you can split it among the flatmates. If not everyone moves out on the same day, we arrange separate dates. On request, we apply for the no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) and do the packing. Your belongings are covered by liability under the HGB, and additional insurance is available on request. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and also drive nationwide.

Site survey

One appointment in the shared flat is enough to estimate the volume of all rooms – after that the fixed price is set, and your timetable builds on it.

Separate dates

If one flatmate moves out in March and another in April, we plan two trips instead of one – matched to each person's notice.

Packing service

If time gets tight before exams or shift work, we pack the kitchen and living room while everyone packs their own room.

No-parking zone

In Berlin, the signs must be up at least three full days beforehand; on request, we submit the application around four weeks before moving day.
STEP BY STEP

The shared-flat timetable in six stages

A good timetable for a shared-flat move works backwards from moving day. The six stages show what is due when, which deadlines cannot be moved and who in the shared flat is responsible – write a name next to each stage.

01

Three months before

Send the notice in writing, no later than the third working day of the month – if several tenants are named in the contract, all of them sign.
02

Eight weeks before

Flat meeting: fix the moving date, draw up a furniture list and agree who takes on which task – from transport to final cleaning.
03

Six weeks before

Survey and quote: after that the fixed price is set, and the shared flat agrees how the moving costs will be divided.
04

Four weeks before

Apply for the no-parking zone (Berlin: approx. four weeks' processing time), get boxes, and book an appointment at the registration office (Bürgeramt) for after moving in.
05

Final week

Everyone packs their own room, shared rooms are packed according to the list; label boxes with a name and destination room.
06

After moving in

Handover of the old flat, then re-registration within two weeks (§ 17 BMG) – every flatmate registers separately at the Bürgeramt.
WHEN ONLY A LITTLE MOVES

Part load for a single room

Fits any timetable with some leeway

If only one flatmate moves out with a little furniture and a few boxes, a part load can be cheaper than a lorry of their own: your belongings travel together with other orders. For this you need some flexibility on the date – so plan it into the shared flat's timetable early.

ORGANISING A SHARED-FLAT MOVE

Who
does what in a shared-flat move?

Divide tasks clearly

In a shared-flat move, it is rarely the transport that fails, but the coordination: who gives notice, who books, who is there on moving day? A joint flat meeting eight weeks beforehand with a written task list answers these questions early. Also record there which furniture stays and how the deposit will later be divided. If someone is moving to another city, read more under Long-distance moves. We are based in Berlin and drive nationwide – you will find destinations with their own page under Locations.

Task list at the flat meeting

A list with names and dates for notice, quote, no-parking zone, boxes and Bürgeramt turns the shared-flat move into a project with clear responsibilities – instead of a group in which everyone waits for someone else.

Assigning furniture and boxes

With a packing service, careful furniture transport and a list of which piece of furniture goes where, every box ends up in the right room – even if the flatmates move to different addresses.

Planning staggered dates

If not everyone moves out on the same day, two smaller trips, a part load or a furniture taxi for single items can help. What matters is that each date fits the respective notice period.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions on the timetable for a shared-flat move

Answers on notice, lead time, staggered dates, the survey and costs in a shared flat.
The costs of a shared-flat move depend on factors such as distance, amount of furniture and number of rooms. After the survey, you receive a binding fixed price for the agreed services. For an individual quote, call us on 01625978461 so that we can assess your specific situation accurately.

Furniture list: who takes what, what stays

One of the biggest challenges in a shared-flat move is clearly assigning furniture and belongings. Draw up a joint list at the first flat meeting: who owns which piece of furniture, what do they take with them, what stays for the successors, what will be sold? This list is also the basis for the quote, because the volume determines the price.

For shared furniture such as the fridge, sofa or shelves, clarify early who takes them over or whether they will be sold – this often takes several weeks. During furniture transport, we label every item according to your list so that each flatmate receives their own belongings at the new home without mix-ups.

The timetable: from the flat meeting to re-registration

A successful shared-flat move stands or falls on coordination. Because study, exam and working hours often clash, you should organise a joint meeting no later than eight weeks before the move. Fixed points are the notice period (§ 573c BGB: three months for tenants) and re-registration within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 BMG).

We also coordinate staggered move-in and move-out dates so that every flatmate can move on their own date. For the list of authorities and contracts, use our checklist for a private move.

These points determine the price for the shared flat

A key cost factor is always the volume of your belongings. The distance is charged from €3.95/km, while the floor and lift can mean additional effort. If a no-parking zone is needed, this is also reflected in the price. Separate terms apply to furniture assembly or a part load.

Our services for shared flats

Moving made easy – our services

Which service fits depends on whether the whole shared flat moves or only one room.

When a flatmate moves to another city

If a flatmate moves to another city, we plan this trip as a separate long-distance move or as a part load – to suit their date. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive nationwide. You will find destinations with their own page in the locations overview, and more on long routes under Long-distance moves.

Always one step ahead.
