Moving boxes for singles: number size and labelling

Singles' guide · Part 6
Every box with a colour, number and destination
Boxes with a system
In a single move, box planning determines how quickly loading and unpacking go. For a one-room flat, 15 to 25 boxes are often enough, depending on books, kitchen and clothing. Weight is what matters: books and crockery belong in small boxes, cushions and textiles in large ones. Our team estimates what you need during the survey and supplies the material on request. You will find more details under Private move.
A simple colour code saves a lot of time at the destination: one colour per room, plus a consecutive number on the lid and side. Stick the same colour on the door of the room in the new flat – that way the team puts every box straight in the right place. For the transport we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB). We are based in Berlin and operate nationwide; destinations with their own page can be found in the locations overview. We quote the fixed price after the survey.

Request boxes and packing material at the same time
Have your needs estimated, receive a fixed price
Simply call us on 01625978461. During the survey we estimate how many boxes your household needs and then quote a fixed price. On request we deliver boxes, tape and padding material in advance, so you can pack at your own pace. Small quantities can travel as a part load.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we help with packing
From the box to the colour code
Many singles pack themselves and only need the right material – others want to hand over packing entirely. Both are possible: we deliver boxes, tape and padding material or take over packing completely with our packing service. In both cases the rule is: pack boxes by weight, label them by room, mark fragile items. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and quote the fixed price after the survey; for the transport we are liable under the HGB.

How to pack boxes properly
Well-packed boxes are carried faster and unpacked faster. These six rules apply to every single household, whether one or two rooms – and at the destination they save you searching for the charging cable and coffee mug.

Part 6 is about what makes up the largest part of the load in a move as a single: the boxes. We show how to estimate the number for a one- or two-room flat, which box size suits what and how a colour code speeds up unpacking. On top of that come tips for fragile items and the question of whether you pack yourself or use the packing service. For small quantities we explain the part load.

Frequently asked questions about boxes and packing as a single
Less clutter, fewer boxes
As a single you have the big advantage of being able to decide independently what comes along and what does not. Use the move as a chance to declutter radically – anything you have not used in the last year can go. A minimalist approach not only reduces the packing effort but also the moving costs considerably, as less volume has to be transported.
Sell or give away unused furniture and clothing via online platforms before the moving date draws near. That way you not only reduce your moving costs but also start in your new home with a clear mind. Our team will gladly help you estimate which transport volume is ideal for your reduced household.
Loading boxes by colour and number
Without family support, well-thought-out scheduling on moving day is especially important. Draw up a minute-by-minute checklist and communicate clearly with our moving team which boxes should be loaded first. Labelling systems with colours or numbers help you keep track, even if you coordinate the move on your own – you will find examples in the article Labelling moving boxes with a colour system.
Also allow enough buffer time in case the handover date of the old or new flat shifts. Our private move service offers flexible time slots, so you stay relaxed even with short-notice changes. That way even a solo move becomes a stress-free experience.
