Packing for a summer move

Packing properly when the thermometer rises

Pack loosely

Unsere Firma Packing in summer: sturdy boxes, double-taped bottoms, blankets instead of film, and textiles stowed loosely.

At 30 degrees in the shade, packing itself becomes a challenge. Cardboard goes soft when it is damp or overloaded, tape sticks less well to warm, dusty surfaces, and moisture collects under plastic film. If you pack in summer, you should therefore adapt your materials and method: sturdy moving boxes instead of supermarket crates, double-taped bottoms and moving blankets for everything that needs to breathe. Our team at Beste Umzug Unternehmen brings the right materials.

Pack in the cooler morning or evening hours and air the rooms early in the morning; during the day, shutters or curtains keep the heat out. Store full boxes in the coolest room of the flat, not on the sunny balcony. If you would like to hand over the packing, our team will take care of it as part of our private move. We quote the fixed price after the survey.

CAREFULLY PACKED

How we pack in summer

Sturdy, labelled, loose

When packing in summer we pay attention to three things: sturdy boxes that do not give way even when full, neatly taped bottoms and blankets instead of film for furniture and upholstery. Heavy items such as books go into small boxes, light ones into large boxes. Every box is labelled by room so that it ends up in the right place in the new flat straight away. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21), work at a fixed price after a survey and travel nationwide – destinations in the locations overview.

Packing service

With a packing service we pack your household goods in sturdy boxes, pad fragile items and label everything by room – saving you hours in a warm flat.

Office move

Files, technology and cables need a system for an office move: numbered boxes, separate crates for battery-powered devices and a plan for every workstation.

Senior moves

For a senior move we pack calmly and as agreed – keepsakes and documents separately, so that nothing disappears into the wrong box.

Furniture in blankets

We wrap wood, lacquer and leather in moving blankets. Film directly on the surface traps heat and moisture in summer during furniture transport.
PACKING CHECKLIST

Six rules for packing in the heat

Whether you pack yourself or use our packing service: these six rules make sure that boxes hold, furniture stays undamaged and clothes arrive fresh – even when it is over 30 degrees outside and the flat heats up a lot during the day.

01

Sturdy boxes

Use proper moving boxes instead of used supermarket crates. Books in small boxes, bedding and pillows in large ones – that way every box stays carriable.
02

Double-tape the bottom

Tape the bottom lengthways and crossways. Tape sticks less well to warm, dusty cardboard – so do your taping in a cool room.
03

Blankets instead of film

Film directly on wood, leather or upholstery traps heat and moisture. Moving blankets protect against scratches and knocks while letting the material breathe.
04

Store somewhere cool

Stack packed boxes in the coolest room of the flat, not on the balcony or in the loft. Heat and sun take their toll on contents and cardboard.
05

Textiles packed loosely

Winter clothes fit into vacuum bags to save space, and shirts and dresses into wardrobe boxes. Only pack dry laundry, otherwise there is a risk of a musty smell.
06

Label clearly

Room, contents and "this way up" on every box – and a separate marking for heat-sensitive items that should travel in the car rather than in the cargo space.
SMALL LOADS

Part load: well packed on tour

Combine cleverly, move for less

With a part load (Beiladung) several customers share the load bed. Because your belongings are reloaded and stacked, what counts most is sturdy, fully packed boxes with taped bottoms and clear labelling. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

SUMMER MOVE

All
about packing in summer

From the box to the wardrobe box

Packing in summer also means using up food in good time, emptying the fridge and defrosting the freezer compartment the day before. Schedule your packing days for the cooler hours and start with things you do not need in summer – winter coats, ski gear, fan heaters. If you are looking for professional tricks for fast and safe packing, you will find them in the article Packing like a professional.

Packing plan

A packing plan by room and week makes sure that your private move, senior move or student move does not end in a hot night shift – winter things first, kitchen and bathroom last.

Materials and help

With a packing service, moving blankets for furniture transport and a small removal for single items, boxes arrive intact and furniture without scratches or damp stains – even after a long, hot moving day.

Offices and small quantities

For an office move or company relocation, numbered boxes and a plan for each workstation help; with a part load or furniture taxi, boxes have to withstand stacking and reloading.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions on packing for a summer move

Answers on boxes, tape, film, textiles and packing in the heat.
The best times of day for a summer move are between 6 and 10 in the morning, when temperatures are still moderate. That way you protect both the moving team and delicate pieces of furniture from extreme heat. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen we plan your date individually according to the weather, so that your move in summer runs stress-free and efficiently.

Boxes and tape: what holds in the warmth

Sturdy moving boxes matter more in summer than at other times, because damp or overloaded cardboard gives way. Pack heavy items such as books and crockery in small boxes and fill the gaps so that nothing slides. Tape the bottom lengthways and crossways – tape sticks less well to warm, dusty cardboard.

So seal boxes in a cool room and store them there until moving day, not on the sunny balcony. On request, our team at Beste Umzug Unternehmen brings sturdy boxes, tape and padding material.

Blankets instead of film: packing furniture and textiles loosely

Cling film or stretch film directly on wood, leather or upholstery traps heat and moisture in summer; this can cause stains or a musty smell. Moving blankets protect against scratches and let the material breathe. Pack candles, records and cosmetics separately and take them with you yourself.

Clothes stay crease-free in wardrobe boxes, and winter things fit into vacuum bags. Only pack dry laundry. For your private move we are happy to advise you on which materials make sense.
