SEVEN DAYS, ONE PLAN

Final week

Countdown to your first flat of your own

Day by day

Unsere Firma The last week before moving into your first home: no-parking zone, packing, first-night box, documents and the right insurance.

As a first-time mover, you have many tasks at the same time in the last week before the move. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen, the transport is already settled by then: date, services and a fixed price after a survey. On request our team takes care of packing, transport and assembly, from a small student flat to a first shared home as a couple. You can find all services under Private move.

This week, also check your insurance cover: personal liability insurance covers damage you cause in the rented flat, and home contents insurance covers your own belongings. The moving company is liable for the transport under the German Commercial Code (HGB); this is how your household goods are covered with us, and additional insurance is available on request. We also take care of the parking restriction zone, moves between floors and furniture assembly, so that your first move runs smoothly.

RELIEF IN THE LAST WEEK

What we take off your hands

So that there is time for everything else

In the last week before your first move, everything comes together: boxes, appointments, keys, contracts. We take the transport off your hands and tell you openly what it costs – as a fixed price after the survey. Your household goods are covered under the HGB (up to €620 per cubic metre of loading space), and additional insurance is available for valuable items. On request we take care of the parking restriction zone, dismantling and assembling furniture. We are based in Berlin, Stromstraße 21, and travel nationwide.

No-parking zone

In Berlin the signs must be in place at least 72 hours before the move. On request we handle the application to the district office (Bezirksamt) and put up the signs – for your private move.

Packing service

If things get tight in the last few days, we pack the kitchen and fragile items – you take care of documents, keys and contracts, with our packing service.

Dismantling furniture

The day before or in the morning we dismantle the wardrobe and bed, and screws go labelled into bags – so nothing gets lost on moving day with furniture transport.

Assembly on moving-in day

We reassemble the bed and wardrobe straight away in the new flat. Your first night does not begin between boxes but in your own bed – with furniture assembly.
COUNTDOWN

Seven days to moving in

This is how to spread the tasks of the last week so that on moving day there is only carrying left to do. Especially on your first move of your own, this fixed order helps against rushing and forgotten tasks.

01

Seven days before

Confirm the date and time with the moving team, arrange the key handover and ask the new landlord for the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).
02

Five days before

Check or take out personal liability and home contents insurance, and book an appointment to register at the citizens' office (Bürgeramt) – it must take place within two weeks of moving in.
03

Three days before

The no-parking signs must be in place now, in Berlin at least 72 hours beforehand. Everything except the kitchen, bathroom and bedding is packed and labelled.
04

Two days before

Eat up the contents of the fridge, let the freezer compartment defrost and use up food. Put your ID, tenancy agreement and documents in a separate folder.
05

The day before

Pack the box for the first night: bedding, charging cables, toothbrush, tools, toilet paper, light bulbs. It goes into the vehicle last.
06

On moving day

In the new flat, first the handover report and meter readings, then unloading. In the old room, close the windows and hand over the keys.
SMALL LOADS

Part load: well prepared in the last week

Ready for collection in the delivery window
With a part load, your household goods are combined with other jobs on one trip – this saves costs if you have few household goods. In the last week before moving in, this means: finish packing the boxes and label them with your name, dismantle furniture and coordinate the delivery window with the key handover. Then even a small move into your first home goes without rushing.

GUIDE SERIES

The
last week and the right cover

Checklist and insurance

The last week before your first move of your own decides whether moving day will be calm or hectic. In this part of the series we go through it day by day – from the no-parking sign to the box for the first night – and clarify which insurance policies first-time movers need now: personal liability, home contents and liability during transport. For a long-distance move, this week starts a little earlier.

Countdown checklist

Confirm the date, check the no-parking zone, defrost the fridge, pack the box for the first night: with a seven-day list, a private move or student move stays manageable – ticked off day by day.

Liability and contents insurance

Personal liability insurance pays if you damage the floor of the rented flat while moving in; home contents insurance protects your belongings afterwards. With a packing service, careful furniture transport or a small-load transport, the risk is reduced further.

Liability during transport

Whether a part load or a furniture taxi: the moving company is liable under the HGB at €620 per cubic metre of loading space. Report damage no later than the day after delivery, and hidden damage within 14 days – ideally in writing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the last week and insurance

Answers on planning, costs, contents insurance, boxes, registering your address, part loads and liability on your first move.
Start planning at least six weeks beforehand, draw up a checklist and get a fixed-price quote. That way, as a first-time mover, you always keep track of costs and dates. Our moving company supports you from the first consultation through to moving into your new flat.

The last 7 days before moving in: checklist for first-time movers

In the last week before the move, first-time movers should prepare their registration at the citizens' office (Bürgeramt) – book an appointment, request the landlord confirmation – and update contracts for electricity, internet and insurance. It is also important to label all boxes clearly and to keep a separate box with a first-aid kit, tools and documents to hand. What goes in it is explained in the article Packing a first-night box.

Also allow enough time for the handover, including meter readings and the handover report. If you plan early with our moving company, you avoid scheduling stress on moving day itself.

Service charges, deposit and insurance: what first-time movers should bear in mind

Many first-time movers underestimate the service charge statement and the rental deposit: the deposit is at most three months' net rent and may be paid in three monthly instalments (§ 551 BGB). Check the tenancy agreement carefully and clarify any open questions before signing.

Home contents insurance protects your belongings in the new flat, and personal liability insurance covers damage to the rented flat – both should be in place from the day you move in. Whether you are still covered through your parents is stated in their policy. The moving company is liable for the transport itself under the HGB; this is how your household goods are covered with us.

Honest prices for your first move

We believe in fair and honest prices. We move a 1-room flat from €365, a 2-room flat from €609, a 3-room flat from €889 and a 4-room flat from €1,329. For a house or villa you receive an individual quote, tailored to your needs. For long-distance moves we charge from €3.80 per kilometre. Arrange a free survey in good time before the last week.

Which factors determine the price of your move

We calculate transparently according to volume, distance (from €3.80/km), floor and lift. Any parking restriction zone required is also included in the price. Additional services such as furniture assembly and a part load are shown separately.

Services that ease your last week

Whatever you cannot manage yourself, you book individually.

The last week before a move to another city

With a move to another city, the last week starts a little earlier because the journey has to be planned in. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and travel nationwide; more under Long-distance moves, destinations with their own page in the locations overview.

Always one step ahead.
