Moving with a Baby or Toddler: Sleep Safety and Re-registration

Baby and toddler
Moving without losing your baby's routine
Moving calmly
With a baby or toddler, it is not the moving plan that sets the pace but sleeping and feeding times. If you plan moving day around these times, you spare your child and yourself a lot of upheaval. Most important is that the cot is set up in the evening and familiar things such as the sleeping bag and musical mobile are to hand. How we handle your family move is described under Private move.
Babies and toddlers are better off spending moving day not in the flat where things are being carried, but with grandparents or friends. We load the cot and changing unit last and set them up again first. We give you the fixed price after the survey; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request. You can reach us by phone on 01625978461.

What we plan for families with a baby
Cot, changing unit, order
With a baby, the order is what counts on moving day: whatever is loaded last comes out first. That is why we load the cot, changing unit and the box with nappies and bottles last and set them up first at the new place. We give you the fixed price after the survey. We are liable for transport damage under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (€620 per m³ of cargo space), and additional insurance is available on request.

Six tips for moving with a baby
Babies and toddlers need repetition and closeness above all. These six points help to maintain both despite the move – from packing to the first few weeks in the new flat.
Keep the routine
Organise childcare
Pack the baby bag
Travel safely
Childproof the flat
Doctors and authorities
Part load for baby furniture from relatives
Baby furniture often comes second-hand from relatives – a cot, a changing unit, a high chair from another city. A part load is suitable for such individual items: they travel on a route that is going in that direction anyway.

Baby's
room, journey and re-registration
This part of the series is about moving with a baby or toddler: how to plan moving day around sleeping and feeding times, what belongs in the baby bag and how the baby's room is set up again on the first evening. Then there is the journey in the child seat, the childproof new flat and the re-registrations that come with having a child – the family benefits office, the paediatrician and, where applicable, the parental allowance office. For a long-distance move, also plan breaks for feeding and changing.

Questions about moving with a baby or toddler
The baby's room first: how moving in goes well
When moving with a baby, the children's room takes priority. The cot, mattress, sleeping bag and changing mat should be in place by the evening of moving day – familiar smells help the baby fall asleep in unfamiliar surroundings.
Mark the boxes from the baby's room clearly so that we carry them straight into the right room when unloading. Fit anti-tip brackets for the chest of drawers and shelf directly after assembly. More in the article Moving with a baby.
The right preparation with a baby
Babies do not yet understand the move, but they sense the upheaval. Keep up rituals such as bathing, reading aloud or the musical mobile, even among the boxes. Older siblings can paint a box for the baby.
Children under 12 who are shorter than 150 cm may only travel in a suitable child seat (§ 21 StVO). Nappies, bottles, medicines and the yellow U-Heft go in a bag that travels with you in the car.
Moving prices for families in summary
Small moves start with us from €365 for a 1-room flat. Somewhat larger moves, such as a 2-room flat, cost from €594. A 3-room flat comes to from €884, a 4-room flat from €1,329. If you live in a house or villa, you receive an individual quote from us. For long-distance moves, a price from €4.20 per kilometre applies. During the free survey we also see the pram, playpen and baby furniture – after that the fixed price is set.
What determines the price of your move
The decisive factors are first of all volume and distance – we charge the latter from €4.20/km. The floor of your flat and whether there is a lift are also included in the calculation. Sometimes a no-parking zone is also required; short distances shorten the day on which the baby is looked after elsewhere. On request we also take care of furniture assembly and a part load.
