Keepsakes When Moving in Later Life: Keep Share, Digitise

Senior moves part 8
Photos, letters, heirlooms: what stays
Safeguarding memories
When moving in later life, hardly anything is as hard as deciding about keepsakes: photo albums, letters, mother's crockery, father's workbench. Not everything fits into the new flat, but much of it should not be lost. Part 8 shows how seniors and relatives can sort, share and preserve these things. Call us on 01625978461 if you have questions about the transport.
Whatever comes along we pack individually and with padding, and we label the boxes separately. We quote the fixed price after the survey. We are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB); jewellery, cash and certificates are excluded from this and should be transported by you. More about our services under Private move.

Arrange a survey – for heirlooms too
Fixed price after a survey
During the free survey you show us which keepsakes and heirlooms need special protection. You then receive a fixed price. Call us on 01625978461 for an appointment.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we transport keepsakes
Individually padded, clearly labelled
Keepsakes are often not valuable, but they are irreplaceable. We pack pictures, porcelain and small furniture individually, pad them and label the boxes "Memories" so that they are unpacked first. For heirlooms of high value we recommend additional insurance, because by law we are liable up to €620 per cubic metre (§ 451e HGB). We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive nationwide; destinations with their own page can be found in the locations overview.

Putting
memories in order
When moving in later life, many people are faced with a lifetime of things. Part 8 of our guide series is devoted to keepsakes: how to sort them without overwhelming yourself, how family and grandchildren can be involved and how photos and letters can be preserved digitally. It also covers the safe transport of heirlooms and valuables that are better off travelling in your own bag. That way sorting out becomes passing on during a senior move.

Frequently asked questions about keepsakes during a senior move
Barrier-free move: what seniors should pay particular attention to
A barrier-free move starts with choosing the new flat. Door widths, thresholds and access to lifts should be checked carefully in advance. Fitting grab rails or non-slip floor coverings can also significantly increase safety in the new home. Our team is happy to advise you on the practical implementation of such measures.
During furniture assembly we pay particular attention to stable placement and short distances between important rooms. Sockets, light switches and frequently used items should be placed at a comfortable reach height. This creates a living environment that promotes independence in later life and prevents falls. Ask us specifically about age-appropriate solutions.
Clearing out with heart: preserving keepsakes sensibly
Sorting out before a senior move is hard for many people, because a whole life is attached to the things. Take your time and start with rooms without strong feelings, such as the cellar or storeroom. Three categories help: "keep", "pass on" and "say goodbye". Family members can listen, write down stories and take over heirlooms – the decision remains with the person who is moving.
Photo albums, slides and letters can be scanned and preserved digitally; the originals can go to children or grandchildren. We pack delicate heirlooms and antiques individually and with padding. Transport jewellery, coins and certificates yourself, because statutory liability does not apply to them (§ 451d HGB). For long distances, you will find tips under Long-distance moves, and on transporting old furniture in the article Transporting antique furniture.
Costs for your move
The cost of a move depends heavily on the size of the flat. Smaller 1-room flats can be moved from as little as €369. Anyone moving into a 2-room flat pays from €605, for 3 rooms it is from €894 and for 4 rooms from €1,279. For houses or villas there is no flat rate – here we always prepare an individual quote. For a long-distance move we charge from €4.20 per kilometre. The quickest way to find out your exact price is during a free survey.
What influences the moving price
Volume and distance (from €4.20/km) form the basis of every price calculation. Added to this are structural factors such as the floor and lift, as well as a parking restriction zone if needed. Furniture assembly and a part load can also affect the total price.
