Commuter guide, part 2

Test the route to work before the move is settled

Route, time, everyday life

Unsere Firma Trial commute: test the route from the new flat to work at the real time before the lease and the move are settled.

At a viewing on a Saturday morning, a flat often looks closer to work than it is on a Monday at half past seven. That is why a trial commute is worthwhile for commuters: travel the route from the new address to work on a normal working day, at the time you really have to leave – using the means of transport you will use later. Only when the travel time, changes and search for a parking space work out should the lease be signed.

Approach it like a comparison: if you have two flats on your shortlist, test both routes on two different working days. Record the door-to-door time, including the walk, waiting on the platform and looking for a parking space. A difference of ten minutes per journey sounds small, but adds up to many hours over a working year. And if you work from home, test the route on the days when you actually have to go to the office.

During the test run, note down not only the minutes but also how reliable the route is: how often are trains cancelled, where does traffic build up, how far is the walk to the stop in the rain? Test the way back in the late afternoon too. If everything fits, we plan the move: at Beste Umzug Unternehmen you receive a fixed price after the survey, so the costs are settled before you give notice on your old flat. Route to work tested? Then we plan your move

Fixed price after a survey, before you give notice

Once the trial commute works and the lease is signed, it is time for the move. Call us on 01625978461: we survey your flat and then give you a fixed price. That way you can plan the notice, day of leave and moving date in one go.

Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we clarify with you before the move

So that flat, route and date fit

You decide whether a flat suits your route to work – we plan the move there. During the survey we look at access, floors and parking spaces at both addresses and then give you a fixed price. That way you know the costs before you give notice on the old flat; with a three-month notice period, that is enough time. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit) and drive within Berlin and nationwide. Your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request.

Site survey

We look at the old flat and ask about the new one: floor, lift, access. That way the fixed price is settled before you send off your notice.

No-parking zone

On request we apply for the parking space for moving day – in Berlin processing takes around four weeks, so think about the no-parking zone early.

Packing service

Between the trial commute, the notice and work, there is little time left for packing. Our packing service takes care of the boxes if you wish.

Furniture transport

Will the sofa fit through the new stairwell? Measure during the viewing – we then plan the furniture transport accordingly and dismantle large items.
A GOOD DECISION

How to recognise a flat with a good route to work

A trial commute shows more than the map app. Write these points down on every test run so that you can compare two flats fairly – we help with the move as soon as the decision has been made.

01

Real commuting time

Test on a working day at the real departure time. The minutes from the app at the weekend say little about your route to work on a Monday.
02

Reliable route

Count the changes and note down delays. A route without a change is often more reliable than a faster one with two connections.
03

Way back in the evening

Travel back too, when you finish work. In the evening the frequency and traffic are different – for your everyday life the whole commute counts.
04

Parking and cycling

If you commute by car, check the parking situation in the evening. Cyclists look for bike parking and the route to the station.
05

Everyday life around it

Nursery, shopping and the doctor should be on the way. The fewer detours, the less time everyday life costs in the new flat.
06

A plannable move

Once the decision is made, we give you a fixed price after the survey. Your belongings are covered by liability under the HGB, with additional cover on request.
SMALL LOADS

Part load, when only a little is moving

Save on small loads

If only individual pieces of furniture and a few boxes are moving, a part load (Beiladung) is often cheaper than a van of your own: your belongings travel with other jobs. Because the tour has several stops, there is a time window – plan to work from home that day.

NEW ROUTE TO WORK

From
the test run to moving day

Check first, then book

When looking for a flat, commuters decide not only on rent and layout but on many hours a year. A trial commute before signing shows whether the new route to work works in everyday life. After that it is about the order: lease, notice on the old flat, moving date, no-parking zone and registering your new address. If the new job is in another city, it is best to test the route during a viewing appointment – more on this under Long-distance moves.

Test and decide

A list with commuting time, changes, parking and the way back helps with every private move, senior move or student move: you compare two flats on facts rather than gut feeling.

Furniture and measurements

With a suitable packing service, careful furniture transport and flexible small transport, everything gets into the new flat – measure doors and stairs during the viewing.

Date and costs

The same applies to an office move, company relocation, public authority move, part load or furniture taxi: only once the route to work fits is a binding booking worthwhile – we give you the fixed price after a survey.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the route to work, choosing a flat and moving

Answers on trial commuting, costs, registering your address, the commuter allowance, fixed prices and short-notice moves.
Test the route to work before you sign: on a working day, at the real departure time and with the means of transport you will use. Note down the door-to-door time, changes and delays, and travel back as well. That way you can compare two flats on facts rather than the map app.

Trial commute: test the route to work before signing

Commuters do not find the right flat through layout and rent alone, but through the route to work. Before signing, travel the route from the new address to work on a normal working day – at the time you will leave later and with the means of transport you will use. Note down the door-to-door time, changes, delays and the walk to the stop.

Test the way back after work too. If you commute by car, check in the evening whether there are parking spaces in the street or whether a residents' parking permit is needed. Only when the route works in everyday life is the lease worthwhile – and with it, planning the move.

Notice, moving date, leave: the right order

Once the flat has been found, planning works backwards from the move-in date. As a tenant you usually give notice on the old flat with a three-month notice period (§ 573c BGB). Set the moving date so that you do not have to pay double rent – or only briefly. Agree the day of leave with your employer early.

Then come the no-parking zone (around four weeks' processing time in Berlin), mail forwarding and packing. After moving in, register at the Bürgeramt within two weeks. You will find a checklist for the viewing in the article Flat viewing.

What affects the price of your move

Important factors are the volume of your furniture, the distance (from €4.25/km), the floor and whether there is a lift. A no-parking zone also counts. Additional services such as a part load can reduce the price.
